If you like comic books, this day is for you! Free Comic Book Day is a single day, the first Saturday in May each year, when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Please check your local shop for their participation and rules. And check the site below for a handy store locator as well!

not sure about anywhere else, but generally most comic books stores do participate.
If anyone’s in the Hamilton/Burlington area of Ontario, these are good stores to go to:
Big B Comics 1045 Upper James (Hamilton)
Conspiracy Comics (2 locations in Burlington, 1 in Oakville, 1 in Hamilton)
2156 Mountain Grove, Burlington
494 Brant St., Burlington
233 Cross Avenue, Oakville
844 King St. West, Hamilton
These are the shops I go to every year, they always give out the most freebies and their selections of regular comics are the best in the area, so we always stock up on back titles while we’re there.
we’re going to london!! there are 5 stores in london that are doing it
even the tiny, tiny comic book store in my small town is doing it. except is just started to pour rain with thunder rumbling nicely in the background so i may not make it after all. 🙁
Now if only I had the cash to get down to the comic shop
I’m in Edmonton, and honestly, I’ve only ever come across one comic book store that didn’t participate. I can’t remember the name, but it was in the North end. Best shops to hit are the 3 Happy Harbor locations. They always have lots of great stuff going on. Lots of free comic book selection. Celebrities on site for autographs and pictures. Draws and contests. Artist sketches in exchange for food bank donations.
oh and they usually have good sales on too.
Thunder Bay comic stores were awesome. My son was given 5 free comic books.
This was excellent. I’d heard about it in past years but never gone before. Today we walked out to Westdale in Hamilton and visited Conspiracy Comics and Comic Connection and were really pleased with what we got. I picked up a Fraggle Rock comic book that I’m going to give to a friend who is a huge Jim Henson fan as well as a really cool X-Men comic book that gave the entire Phoenix story in summary. It also had a preview of some upcoming storylines which were really cool. My boyfriend opted for the mini figure of Warmachine (from the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie) at one place and a double comic of Doctor Solar/Magnus Robot Fighter at another. Very cool!
I’ll definitely be back next year and earlier as well as one in particular my boyfriend wanted was gone by the time we got there around 3pm!!!
Well, I got the e-mail notification half an hour past May 1st, so I guess it wouldn’t matter if I had 100 stores participating!
@Woodsmith
Most comic book shops will still have some leftover from the previous day. Try going tomorrow.
I agree with Woodsmith – what is the point of posting something the day of – i received this @ 10:57 PM May 1 – useless waste of bytes.
I have a question which is not relevant to tis topic. I appreciate if anyone can help.
-Why none of the deals I suggest for this blog never get posted? is there any requirements for suggesting a deal?
Good Question Lili, I’ve also suggested lots of deals and freebies and they never get posted.
Je ne vais pas faire des commentaires sur chaque article, mais cette fois je crois que je ne dirai rien
