Canadian Marketing Association – Do Not Contact List

cma.jpg

Twenty47 posted this on the forum and if your like me and get bombarded with telemarketer calls this could be a great thing if it works!  You can register your phone number, fax number and/or address with the ‘do not contact’ service. 🙂

Do Not Contact Service

The Canadian Marketing Association does not own, compile, prepare or rent lists of consumers’ names and addresses. CMA is a private trade association funded by its members. We offer the Do Not Contact Service free of charge to consumers. If you wish to have your name removed from new contact lists acquired by our members, please follow the registration instructions.

The Do Not Contact Service enables individuals to reduce the number of marketing offers they receive by mail, telephone and fax. Consumers register to have their names removed from marketing lists held by members of the Canadian Marketing Association.

Thanks for passing this on! I sure hope it works… last night I got no less than 6 calls between 2pm and 7pm. I try not to be rude since those people have to work just like everyone else, but GRRRRRR!!!

these people are just doing their job, but that doesn’t mean that we need to be polite when they call our homes in order to try and sucker us into buying stuff. And even tho people might be inclined to be polite with the telemarketer, take note of how when you politely say that you’re not interested they continue to push and push and are themselves quite rude.
Often they are companies that you already happen to do business with, be it your phone service provider, internet provider, credit card company etc. It’s a shame that these companies have such little value for their existing customers.
I even had one long distance company’s telemarketer switch my long distance to them without my consent. the fool thought he could get away with it.

Any help in stopping these people is much appreciated!
    poop on telemarketers!

    I hope this works.

The people who do these jobs need to find real jobs. Everyone knows being a telemarketer is not a good job and no one likes them calling their house. Put the companies that hire them out of business by NOT applying to work for them. Work at Tim Horton’s or something if you’re that desperate.

As for this post. This is the Do Not Contact list. The Do Not Call list will be working in September.

agreed its a job but man its annoying. I keep getting calls from “local weedman” 3 nights in a row at 8:30 at night when my son is sleeping. Luckily I use a Voip provider and I went and call blocked them but thats not an option for everyone.

Please note that when you get a call from one of these telemarketers, they are required by law to identify themselves if you ask. After they say their first few words I ask them who they are, then I tell them I am not interested. They will try to keep the conversation going by asking you questions. Use the broken record method such as “no thank you I am not interested”. They will ask you again why you are not interested. Once again just say “no thank you I am not interested”. You don’t have to reply to their questions.
I think it is important to be polite but firm. These folks are just trying to make a living. Too many of our jobs are being exported because of all the imports coming in and these are the jobs replacing our manufacturing jobs.
    Be kind but firm.

I recieved a call from Local Weedman today offering a free estimate. I asked the telemarker to give me the manager. Dave answered and told me it may take up to 6 months to actually recieve my number from the DNCL. I suggested they weren’t actually trying and that it’s a funny coincidence 6 months ago is exactly when the registry started. What’s he going to say next month? 7?
I checked, as far as I know, the DNCL hasn’t even been enforced to anyone so far. Oh, and the CRTC states our numbers were given to telemarketers within 31 days of application. Go figure.

  11. Telemarketers need to go away

Not everyone that calls is a telemarketer trying to sell you something. There are market researchers that get combined into the telemarketer title but they are not. Market researchers are not trying to sell you anything. They are trying to gather information for a study or trying to invite you to a paid focus group.
