Carlton Cards & Papyrus to Close All Stores in Canada


Carlton Cards and Papyrus are closing all of its 76 stores in Canada. Most of the closures will take place over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Another 178 locations will close in the U.S., bringing the total to 254 stores employing approximately 1,400 people.

Carlton Cards issued the following statement on their Instagram account: “Carlton Cards is the number 1 greeting card company in Canada. Our family of card brands include: Carlton Cards, Papyrus, Recycles Paper Greetings and Cartes Carlton. The Schurman Retail Group licensed our name for their card shops and they are closing their doors in 2020. This does not affect the future of the Carlton Cards family of brands and we will continue to sell our products in your favourite Canadian retailers across the country.”

    Many people now buy their Greeting Cards at Dollar stores for $1 or $1.25.Hallmark brought out the dollar store brands so they can be the main brand in the stores

    I’m surprised Hallmark even lasted this long.

    Papyrus still offers some novel cards for those people you want to splurge on for special occasions or even mailings!

    I don’t like the dollar store cards-can be very hard to find the right message tone or image. Blank cards become the catch-all category.
