Farm Boy Canada has announced plans to expand within the Toronto area! Apparently, there are plans to open 10 stores in the city, putting up competition for grocery stores such as Longo’s and Loblaws.
Co-CEOs Jean-Louis Bellemare, company founder, and Jeff York, who came on board in 2009, are implementing an ambitious five-year growth plan. “We’re putting all of our emphasis on Ontario, and planning to triple our presence in the GTA in the next three years,” says York. Within five years, he predicts, Ontario could see 50 Farm Boy stores. “We want to be a $1-billion company in the next five years.”
Farm Boy fresh market stores have been providing a fun and friendly, fresh market shopping experience for over 35 years with legions of loyal fans in Brantford, Cambridge, Cornwall, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Ottawa, Pickering and Whitby.

Google has released Google Home Mini – hands-free help around the house, now donut-sized. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s a little help at home, like only Google can. To celebrate the launch of the new donut-sized Google Home Mini, Google built a pop-up donut shop.
If you’re in Toronto today, Friday October 27th, you can visit the pop-up donut shop for your chance to win either a brand new Google Home Mini or a couple of delicious donuts. It’s all free and there’s plenty more surprises inside
The donut shop is at Yonge and Dundas Square, 10:00AM to 6:00PM. Rain or shine, the event will go on. Google recommends arriving early. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Google Home Mini Donut Shops, Google may need to cut access to the line early in order to close at the scheduled time.
General Mills has announced that it will voluntarily remove the “gluten free” label from Cheerios cereal sold in Canada. “The change we are making is simply to remove the gluten-free label from future boxes,” General Mills spokesperson Mike Siemienas said said. “There is not any health risk with the products currently on the shelf.”
Cheerios were first labelled gluten free in August 2016 but The Canadian Celiac Association has been warning people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity not to consume it. The disagreement over whether Cheerios can be safely labelled as gluten free highlights the complexities of gluten testing and how to avoid cross-contamination between grains. Cheerios are made with 100 percent natural whole grain oats, which are gluten free. However, the grain is at high risk for contamination from gluten-filled wheat, barley or rye unless a strict protocol to ensure the oats are pure is followed – from the farmer’s field right through the manufacturing process.
That said, General Mills stands by its testing process and said Cheerios sold in the U.S. will continue to carry the gluten-free label.

UPS Canada announced today that they are launching a bicycle delivery project. UPS is partnering with the city of Toronto to launch a cargo delivery bicycle pilot project to improve the flow of traffic in the densest parts of the city.
“The success and learnings of this pilot will determine our strategy going forward for cargo delivery by bicycle on a larger scale in Toronto and potentially to other cities across Canada,” Christoph Atz, president of UPS Canada, said during a press conference in Toronto today, Monday October 23 2017.
Officials said the pilot will begin with just one bicycle conducting deliveries by travelling on roadways. Mayor John Tory said the test vehicle, which carries a large square cargo hitch in the rear, won’t be allowed on bicycle lanes. Tory said the UPS pilot project will ease some of the frustration of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists about courier companies parking their trucks in bike lanes or taking up a lane of traffic.

I’m so glad to hear that Shoppers Drug Mart is changing the voice of their self-checkout! Apparently Shoppers Drug Mart received many complaints about the voice and therefore decided to change it. I’m yet to hear the new voice but good call Shoppers!
