Tim Hortons Canada Launching New App

Tim Hortons Canada has announced that they will be launching a new app that will allow customers to pre-order food and drinks with the tap of their thumb, only to be picked up later at the physical store.

This new app is going to launch sometime next week, with Wade McCallum, who owns six Tim Hortons in B.C. and Alberta, saying that the beta version will be available by July 27th.

The app is a similar set up to most fast food ones that are currently available, where it features pictures of the menu items so that the customers can easily select and modify what they’d like to order. Another useful addition to the app’s technology is that it will know when the customers are close to their preferred Tim Hortons.

Enhanced Security Measures for Flights from Canada to the US

A series of tightened security measures on air travel to the U.S. could translate to longer wait times at Canadian airports and difficulties with electronics — especially if they aren’t fully charged. Airline passengers travelling from Canada to the United States will face a new battery of enhanced security measures now required by the U.S Department of Homeland Security.

The changes prompted Air Canada and WestJet to issue an advisory to passengers. The travel advisory recommends:

  • If your flight is scheduled before 10 a.m., you’re asked to arrive at the airport at least three hours early;
  • If your flight is after 10 a.m., you’re asked to arrive at the airport at least two hours early;
  • Electronics should be fully charged for possible inspection;
  • Any device larger than a smartphone should be removed from its protective case or covering for possible inspection;
  • WestJet advises passengers to arrive at their departure gate at least 45 minutes early.

Similar enhanced screening measures are being implemented for all U.S. bound flights in 105 countries around the world, affecting an estimated 325,000 passengers each day.

Subway Canada Puts on a “Fresh Face” After Undergoing First Renovations in 20 Years

It may not be the same worn and yellowed subway tile look that Subway Canada fans have come to be familiar with over the past 20 years, but the restaurant chain, which has long championed itself as being the “fresher” option for fast food, has decided it’s time for a change and announced on Monday that they would be unveiling a sleeker and more modern look to their retail stores.

To really drive home their “fresher image”, Subway is going to begin displaying their uncut vegetables at the front of the store. Though many customers were and still are unaware, Subway has always cut their vegetables fresh in-store.

Another new feature of Subway’s facelift is going to be the digital aspect, as they will be adding self-order kiosks to the stores so that customers can quickly and efficiently place their order or pick-up their order in a designated pre-order pick up location. You will also, as always, be able to pay for your orders with Apple and Samsung Pay options.

There are currently 12 pilot locations that have been launched across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. You can find these remodelled Subway venues at the following locations:

  • Tamarac, Florida
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Winter Park, Florida
  • Chula Vista, California
  • Knoxville, Tennessee
  • Palmview, Texas
  • Hillsboro, Oregon
  • Vancouver, Washington
  • Beauport, Quebec
  • Granby, Quebec
  • and Manchester, U.K.

Starbucks Canada Announces Expansion of Nitro Cold Brew Coffee to Nearly 1500 More Locations

While the drink itself is brewed to be chillingly cold (through the infusion of nitrogen), Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew is definitely having a moment as one of the hottest drinks on the market. So it should come as no surprise to learn that Starbucks is capitalizing on this Guinness-esque coffee’s popularity by installing machines in 1,500 new locations so that they can pump out the drink to more people across the the U.S. and Canada.

Canada got their first taste of this smooth coffee last year at Brookfield Place in Toronto, who have since helped to pilot the drinks popularity to have it now being installed in more locations across the country.

Nitro Cold Brew comes pumped and poured out of a machine similar to the kind you’d see at a bar or a keg. Because of the machinery involved in creating this drink, not all stores will be able to accommodate for the expansion. For those customers, they can instead use Starbucks Cold Brew bike, which rolled out earlier this year and functions as a delivery system for cold drinks.
