With the recent drop in gas prices I couldn’t help but be reminded of a great little resource that I used to use back when I still owned a car. GasBuddy.com keeps track of local gas prices all across North America through user-submitted updates.
If you’re wondering who has the cheapest gas between work and home or whether or not it would be cheaper to fill up here or an hour out of town while you’re on your trip, GasBuddy has got you covered.

Anybody remember the McDonald’s Hallowe’en pumpkin pails? When I was a kid these were all the rage. They debuted back in ’86 and underwent a number of changes over the years.
While I’d normally take the opportunity to ramble down memory lane about and chitter chat all about my memories of the pumpkin pails, I thought I’d let somebody else do all the heavy lifting this week.
Over at SydLexia they’ve put together a comprehensive history of the McDonald’s Halloween pail, complete with tales of their youth. A tiny bit of their language is NSFW, so don’t hop over if you’re easily offended or planning on reading it to little ears.
Also — the house that gives out $1 McDonald’s gift certificates is the coolest house on the block. ‘Nuff said.

I was out for a walk last night when I saw something I honestly never thought I would see again in Canada — gas under $1.
It’s been a few years since I’ve owned a car, but as a concerned former motorist I’ve tried to stay as aware of current gas conditions as I can. And while I know things have been going down, I never in a million years would have expected it to be under a dollar. But there it is — 99.7.
It’s not just an anomaly either — the Esso down the block was at 99.9. Now maybe if we all wish hard enough we can magically transport back to the days of 62.5.
Sorry about the poor picture quality — that’s what a cheap cellphone in the middle of the night will get you. How are gas prices in your neck of the woods?

Are you one of the few Wii owners out there that still haven’t picked up Super Smash Bros Brawl? If price is what was holding you back, Amazon.ca has removed your roadblock. Normally retailing for $49-$59 at most major retailers, Amazon has the title on sale for $29.99. No word on how long this price is going to be on for, so I’d snag it up soon if you’re interested.
Wondering if it’s any good? Yours truly penned a review of it back when it launched. You can read it here.

No, SmartCanucks hasn’t turned into a Beatles fan site. But the response to our recent post about Paul and his McDonald’s boycott was so great that I just couldn’t help but wonder what everyone thought about Ringo’s latest rant.
This video surfaced last week. Ringo is apparently too busy to answer his fan mail anymore. As an older dude I can appreciate what he’s doing. He’s pushing 70. If you were pushing 70 would you want to be dealing with a mountain of fan mail every day? But still – I can’t help but feel posting a video to let everyone know is a little pretentious. Sure it’s nice of him to make it public knowledge — especially if he has a good reputation for responding to his fans — but the whole thing smacks of publicity craving to me.
I’ve only been able to think of two things since this video surfaced — the fan mail scene in A Hard Day’s Night, and The Simpsons episode where Ringo finally replies to Marge’s letter. If it’s still chugging along anything like this, I can see why he’s putting a stop to it;

So what do you think? Attention hungry, or just tired?
