Clearly Contacts.ca- Free 10 000 Pairs Of Glasses (October 19,2010)

clearly

WOW! Clearly Contacts.ca did it again! I just barely finish posting about their current BOGO sale, and now on October 19, 2010 they are offering 10 000 free pairs of glasses (and lenses) to first time free offer recipients! All you need to pay is shipping and handling (which is around $10)
You are supposed to ‘like’ their facebook page to get the code (code is: 10000FREE – but you didn’t hear that from me 😉 )
I know from prior experience that these offers go super fast so be there or be square on October 19!
Details are on their facebook page

Thanks to Litesandsirens911 for the post in the New and Hot Freebies Forum!

Wow super! Would LOVE to snag one for my mom..question for those who ever participated…do I have to pay for shipping?

  2. SavingMentor says:

Yes, you usually have to pay for shipping but it isn’t all that expensive considering the quality of glasses you are receiving!

  3. hawkscheerleader001 says:

i think shipping is around the $10 mark.

do we know if this is eastern, western, central time?

just asking because the company is located in bc.

  4. deweybelle says:

I got this offer last time, and the glasses are amazing. Great quality, perfect fit. I was impressed.

  5. anisa says:

the code in the post is wrong.

    it is actually “10000free”

  6. Optogirl says:

I love free stuff and cheap stuff, don’t get me wrong. But if there is one thing you should not be cheap about it’s with vision care! I know from experience how many people do not know what the heck to input regarding prescription, pd and lens material. These glasses are not measured for your eyes! Doing your pd and trying to enter your Rx is like self-diagnosing an infection and disease and and getting your prescription from dollarama. You wouldn’t do it. OTC Rx readers are fine if you have the same prescription on both eyes but most people don’t. Not everybody have the same optical center as well! And don’t even get me started on contact lenses online orders! Yikes! You only have 2 eyes! You can’t just replace them once youve damaged them! Glasses Rx doesn’t always equal contacts Rx! If you don’t know what the difference is you should go to a professional! Just like you wouldn’t order braces or retainers online! Think about it! And please let kids wear online bought glasses or contacts! You can really damage their future if they really need correction and you give them something wrong!!!!!

  7. Optogirl says:

That last sentence should say “please dont let kids wear online bought corrective lenses”

  8. Catherine L says:

I just ordered a pair yesterday:( Maybe if I’m lucky enough to get in on the free pair I’ll return the already ordered pair when I get them. My lenses are really thick so I have to get them cut down. Ends up being pretty expensive. If I could get the frames for free that would be a big help. May not have to pay a fortune besides the insurance co-pay!

  9. Sally says:

optogirl, if you have a valid prescription and use it on Clearly contacts there is no difference at all other then hundreds of dollars. My optician charges 55$ just to set them on my face and say yep look fine.

I would hope that anyone with half a brain knows that they need a valid RX and that glasses and contacts prescriptions are different and you need an initial fitting with a professional to know which style and brand fit you the best. Online ordering is ONLY for refills.

  10. hcentre says:

Optogirl, it looks like you used up all your exclamation points. Here, I have some extra.

    !!!

FWIW, I got a free pair this spring when they did the city-by-city promo. I had my uncle check them later on over the summer (he’s an optometrist himself) and he said they were absolutely perfect. And I measured my own PD in my bathroom mirror. They’re amazing Cole-Haan glasses and I paid thirteen bucks for the shipping and that’s IT. I just picked up two beautiful pairs the other day on the BOGO promotion, and I only wish my husband’s Rx was low enough to get his for this one (he has a -14; crazy).

  11. Myra Rolston says:

I would love a free pair of glasses, just found out i need glasses.

  12. sunshine88 says:

and they have a really sweet exchange policy for these freebie glasses promos. you can do one exchange and they pay for shipping both ways, so for the $13 dollars you pay for shipping, you get a chance to change your mind if you don’t like your first one. Considering its a freebie, thats a pretty good deal

  13. Catherine L says:

Optogirl, calm down. If you enter the info from a valid prescription it’s pretty straight forward. As for the PD I went to the place where I got my last lenses and asked them to verify my PD for me. They measured, wrote it down and I entered it. Not a big deal. I have a crazy prescription and to buy mine at a regular optical would cost a fortune. It was about $400 2 years ago and seems to have gone up a lot since then (about another $200 plus tax). This is a great way for some of us to get the glasses we need. It would be very difficult to come up with the money for my glasses if I had to get them at a traditional optical place. Hoping the ones I ordered fit and don’t have to be returned!

  14. Maddie2008 says:

My hubby got in on the last promo they had. The glasses were perfect, and had excellent customer service too.
However, i did find a list of the items that are excluded this time. But at least you can know ahead of time which one not to even bother looking at.
    http://www.clearlycontacts.ca/coupon-unavailable-products.ep
But there are tons of awesome frames to choose from.

  15. L says:

Does anyone know if non-prescription sunglasses are available too?

  16. anisa says:

    ClearlyContacts.ca Hi Anisa,

There would be an additional fee to upgrade the lens. The cost
for 1.67 high index lens is $69.95 and for the 1.74 ultra thin
    index lens $149.95 extra.

I would normally pay 400+ for glasses, and no extended benefits for me.
I think I may take them up on this one.

  17. Litesandsirens911 says:

I have also gotten my daughter, who has an astigmatism, some 400.00 Gucci glasses the last time from the city to city promo..she has her eyes checked every 6 months, and her opthamologist at Vancouver Childrens checked her glasses and they are perfect…you just have to follow the prescription exactly, that’s all…it’s quite easy.
My sister is going to order me a pair since she doesn’t wear glasses this time from her address. This is a great promo.

  18. mhk says:

All I can say is WOW!!!

  19. joy says:

wow! I just had my eyes checked done yesterday! the timing is soo perfect! I don’t have the prescription with me but I know I could always go back and asked for a copy of my prescription, is there anything else I should know to order a free glasses besides the prescription? is there a sample order form to practice???? I have a very high prescription, my left eye has a higher prescription and step 2 astigmatism. can I qualify for the free glasses? this would be awesome christmas gift if I get this fro free since I already max out all my eye benefits at work. thank you!

  20. sally says:

you may have to pay the extra for thinner lenses, you can pre research tis on their site.

  21. Anne says:

Wow! Is this 12:01 central time?

  22. Kim says:

I’m guessing that 12:01 is in Pacific time, would that be correct?

  23. kickrz says:

If you order contacts is it just 1 pair? Or multiple?

  24. sally says:

    its only for glasses.

  25. kickrz says:

Ok thanks. I thought lenses meant contact lenses…lol.

  26. MrsSunshine says:

I too order the 2 prs of glasses with the last city to city deal for my teenage sons.. they are perfect (entered the #’s right off the script their eye Dr. gave back to me). unfortunately my oldest broke his.. (he fell asleep studying). So I ordered another 2 pairs for each of them on the BOGO deal. To pay less than $100 for 4 pairs for what I normally pay for one. Heck ya!

  27. maddie2008 says:

I ordered mine already, 15min early. Just entered the code and it deducted the cost of the glasses right away. Awesome deal.

  28. sally says:

    sites down

  29. misslollieputty says:

I think the site just crashed. 🙁

  30. sampler says:

    🙁

  31. Cindy MacNeil says:

I don’t get this I have entered my information 4 times and all four times the system sytop respoding so I guess i am not getting free glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. misslollieputty says:

Keep refreshing…it’ll take a bit but you’ll get in.

  33. Heather says:

Too bad i didnt try early, i guess the site crashed how convenient.

  34. ali says:

i’ve been trying for an hour and i can’t get past: “Please choose numeric values or NONE for both Cylinder and Axis” when I’m filling in my prescription but they both say ‘NONE’!!! so frustrating!

  35. misslollieputty says:

I was on from 11:30 til now – the site was sooooo slow. So I refreshed and got kicked out. People are freaking out on their Facebook page..LOL. Might pack it in soon. Everytime you get in and choose an option (ie: woman or frame type) it kicks you out again. 🙁

  36. theweave says:

I would suggest getting on the phone while you are trying to refresh. Also check your email if you are not automatically notified of emails coming into your box. I never got a confirmation page on the site but got the email saying my order was in!

I paid $118.00 which is a savings of almost $300 for me! I have to have the super light lenses and I upgraded to the tinting ones as well. These cost me $385 in March at my optometrist… when I went in today to get the Rx from him, he checked out the site and said “Wow! Those B****ds are giving away 10,000 pairs!!!!” and was laughing! He said he would set mine no problems, and CC will pay for that too it says!

Hope these are good, I got Levi’s so I would think they are good! If not, well ship em back and I am still out nothing…

    So $118-$118 back from Manulife=FREE!!!

Hope you all get what you want too!

  37. ElisaM says:

    🙁

  38. Robin says:

I’m getting differant page now, saying they’re busy giving away free glasses. It’s not midnight here for another hour what do I do??

  39. theweave says:

    Robin,

According to the thread the code went live before midnight so keep refreshing and get on the phone if you have to!

  40. anisa says:

it will be active for your time zone when it is 12:01 am in YOUR time zone.

i’m in ontario and I just got mine. it took an hour of getting to the payments, crashing, reloading, reloadig, getting to the payments again and so on and so on.

I got 1.74 index lenses and my total after everything is about $161. normally i get the 1.67 index lenses and i pay about $430, out of pocket, i don’t have extended benefits (and i wouldn’t pay for them if offered)

a mighty good deal in my opinion!

  41. coley3 says:

Hi. It took me forever with all the crashing but I got a nearly free pair of glasses. My cost was $14.79 for the shipping and taxes. I am so excited. I didn’t have a newer prescription but my Hubby did so they will be for him.

Keep trying everyone. It just takes perserverance.

  42. BMyltoft says:

    Im in BC.
the codes working here as of 11:40
got my bf a pair 🙂
    good luck everyone .

  43. glassygirl says:

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH <3. It worked for me 🙂

  44. Kay says:

    THANK YOU! IT WORKED!!

  45. Zeta says:

i go my pair and it only costed 16.44…Woohoo
    They valued at $240
    What deal!

  46. kerry says:

I don’t have any prescription information so its complicated for me .I just use reading glasses from the dollar store,in 150+ strength.I do I put that information in?

  47. julyprincess says:

    Finally got mine! $14.79…WOO HOO

  48. Catherine L says:

Just wondering – it says you can get one free exchange. Does that mean no return for full refund if there’s a problem? Don’t want to lock myself into paying for the 1.74 lenses even if the frames are too wide or not wide enough (the virtual mirror kind of sucks). If there’s no return I’ll have to pass. $150 bucks is a lot of money if the glasses end up being useless.

  49. JessM says:

oh nooo… I don’t have my prescription! Good thing my optometrists’ open early. I hope it won’t be sold out by 8 am, 30,000 likes already on Facebook!

Either way, these prices are really low… what’s the catch, here? I’m not used to paying under 400 dollars for glasses.

  50. Fab says:

7am (Eastern)… just ordered my pair (1st ever clearlycontact order), I can’t wait to receive them, can’t go wrong for <$15!.
    Thanks Smartcanucks for the lead!

  51. Snowy713 says:

This was a fantastic deal. I, too, had difficulties and had to keep refreshing and then getting various error pages etc. but at 12:39 a.m. I was able to check out. This is the firt time I had ordered anything from them and found out about this website from smartcanucks..so a big THANK YOU to you guys!!! Fortunately I had to order my contacts as well (which is also a HUGE savings as it normally costs me $400 for contacts and here it was $238.00) so I was given free shipping for my order over $139.00 and I was able to order a pair of glasses for free!! For around the house in those off occasions when my contacts are bothering me or if I get up in the middle of the night and need something :P)

  52. sally says:

for the person asking about your cylinder and axis, if you do not have these values simply enter 0 🙂

  53. maddie2008 says:

They must still have some left to giveaway, my neighbor just got hers ordered ok.

  54. QueenSadi says:

I just ordered mine! paid only $16.44 for shipping! I hope they fit, look and work well….:)

  55. samantha says:

I agree with optogirl….and yes I give my opinion on this each time…I am in the eye business and it’s me that has to fix the problems. I flat out refuse to adjust glasses bought online in my office……as for contact lenses and all the complications etc from people overwearing etc…aggh. You pay for a professional when you come to see me and that’s what you get!

  56. Paula says:

I ordered this morning, it was easy to read the prescription and input the numbers. We measured the PD ourselves and picked out frames similar to what my husband already has. The total cost was $13.14 for shipping. They will arrive in 10 days. We will see what they are like when they get here.

  57. Litesandsirens911 says:

Yay, was so happy to hear that they were still offering these this mroning…wohoo! I ordered my free pair, cost me 13$ and something…

  58. Lindsay says:

I love this deal! I always order from them, love the glasses, love how they arrive so quickly and I have had success in returning them when I didnt like them!
    Thanks!

  59. frugal.tea says:

Do you need a prescription to order?

  60. Denise says:

Still available, just bought mine, ordered my contacts too and it was $8.69 🙂

  61. littlel says:

Just got them now..the site was super fast. 8:30 AM BC time – I’m glad I didn’t stay up until midnight to try to get ’em 🙂

  62. anisa says:

they’ve given away all 10,000 pairs.
congrats to all who got them!

  63. sally says:

Samantha, thats bad business refusing to adjust glasses period.

  64. Britt says:

They need to really fix their website, i was online for over 2 hours lastnight trying to get it to work but the site kept showing errors. Pathetic, definitely a waste of my time

  65. Jillian says:

Why did some people have so many problems and others not? I ordered mine at 8:30am atlantic time and the site was fast and easy. Took two minutes. Strange.

  66. Melanie says:

I ordered mine at 1201 Manitoba time and was in and out in 4 minutes flat 🙂 When I got free glasses for the “City Giveaway” I had lots of problems getting threw and ended up calling customer service to order them… They had suggested to always go on their site via Internet Explorer (Not Firefox) and to delete your cookies before ordering…

  67. FourEyes says:

You get what you pay for.

I’ve been wearing glasses practically since I was born and I have friends who work in the industry as optical store owners and opticians. And I have recently changed careers from fashion retail to optical. From what I have seen and learned, I would not recommend ClearlyContacts.ca to my worst enemy just because the industry is deregulated to the point where this online website has zero accountibility to your eye health due to the eyewear they sell if something goes wrong. And the only reason the industry is deregulated in BC is because the BC Liberal Party is in bed with ClearlyContacts.ca. Hint: large party donation. Talk about conflict of interest.

It’s fine if you are an exisiting contact lens wearer and are just reordering what you’ve already worn before. But buying glasses or first-time contacts, you seriously need a professional to take care of you, ie. an Optometrist (who is an actual Eye Doctor with a medical degree) or a Licensed Dispensing Optician / Contact Lens Fitter, both of whom are provincially regulated.

There is actually more to glasses and contacts than just copying down your prescription and measuring. What about correct adjustments with the right tools or expertise? What about prescription errors? What about accurate measurements? It’s retarded to measure a PD with a ruler in a mirror, there is actually a measuring device designed to do that, that all opticians use. Otherwise, you would see opticians measuring your PD the same way. It’s archaic and inaccurate. Why cheap out on the health of your eyes, on something that you have to live with and use for the next few years? It’s like a website that sells do-it-yourself tooth-pulling kits for the fraction of the cost of getting your teeth pulled at a real dentist. You just wouldn’t.

I like to save money, I like deals too. It might work for some people, but I don’t recommend it to anyone I know. Just because Trevor Linden is the poster child doesn’t mean it’s good. Afterall, it was a paid endorsement.
