Costco Canada Photo Centre Passport Photos Promo: 2 for $3.49

Costco Canada Photocentre currently has a promo on passport photos. You can get 2 passport photos for $3.49 (regular price $5.49). Beware that some Costcos (or all?) don’t take passport photos of Infants anymore due to the complicated photo restrictions.

You can find more info about Canadian passport photos here.  I find the list of unacceptable photos hilarious. Smiling is unacceptable 😛

no smiling, no glasses. same rule now applies to Ontario driver’s licenses too.

  2. M@ says:

You know why smiling isn’t allowed, right? Smiles make facial recognition much harder for biometric software.

Then again, I’m not usually smiling when I’m going through airport gates, so maybe it’s a more truthful representation of my face anyway.

abfab – I just got my license done in November and I wore my glasses… I also wore them 2 yrs ago when I got my passport – you are allowed to wear your glasses they just have to take your picture correctly so that there is no glare and you can fully see your eyes I suppose

  4. M says:

I hate not smiling in pictures! I feel like such a sour puss 😛

  5. Joel says:

Yep, I got my passport renewal rejected because I was smiling. I look really really mad in the ones that were taken aftewards.

  6. Pennywise says:

Its pretty ridiculous that you have to have a photo for an infants passport thats valid for years.

  7. Sally says:

Its ridiculous when smiling become a risk of security IMO, no wonder everyone looks like a convict in the passport photos.

  8. Momo says:

I am so afraid that if I am away and something does happen to me, my passport picture will be on the front of all newspapers. With the no smile rule most people including me looks like a convict!!! lol!

  9. nsangel says:

of course smiling isn’t allowed! your not supposed to be happy about leaving your country or entering another one!

  10. justme says:

Pennywise, if you get an infant one done before the age of one, you can get another one for free after they turn one. It is cheaper than the adult one, $20 maybe? And it is only valid for 3 years. Still ridiculous though! Also wanted to agree with the glasses allowed thing, my picture is with me wearing glasses, they just had to make sure there was no glare on them.

  11. 00 says:

Is there any way to get a price adjustment on these passport photos? I just got mine a couple of days ago for regular price!!!

  12. vibrantflame says:

I agree the no-smiling rule makes people look strange. My husband’s passport photo makes him look like a Mafia member lol.

  13. xbbx says:

you can’t smile any more?! When I got my N, aka Class 7 (in between official and learner’s license) thats just stupid.

  14. Justine says:

where is a cheap place to get passport pics?

  15. Justine says:

haha n/m I didnt read the entire post…I’ll try costco thanks guys.

  16. keetah says:

SMILING CHANGES THE NATURAL SHAPE OF YOUR FACE!!…..and its not because they want you to “look like a convict”
yes the standards have changed. but you also have to consider that alot has happened in the past few years
personally i feel more comfortable getting this kind of stuff done somewhere where they will “gaurantee” that the photo will pass the first time
i figure with all the money i have saved from all the wonderful tips from everyone, sometimes i can spend the extra money on the important stuff

  17. shyanne says:

umm… this make absulutly no sence? why can i smile ? im going to jamacia..

  18. AAA says:

    this is not good

  19. ABC says:

I did not get the part of smiling, and not coverning ur face. it is against someones values and beliefs. We should cahnge our rules laws for the pics

  22. Jess K says:

I just phoned my local Canadian Costco… The one in Barrie, Ontario. And they assure me that this 2 for $3.49 is American pricing. The correct promo price is 2 for $4.99 down from $6.99.

  23. JKP says:

    Check out http://www.getmoreofwhatyouwant.ca
It is the costco sale website — shows the special price of $4.99 for 2 as JessK mentioned. Offer expires Feb 7th!

HI Guys, I just wanted to know where this Costo store is located. I tried google search but couldn’t find any link. If somebody can let me know, that will be very appericiated. Thanks.

  25. Excellent, now I know exactly where to go. I was going to go to blacks for like $30.. screw that.

  26. Merlin says:

I phoned Costco myself… the price is 6.99. Stop reading posts from 2 years ago.

  27. Fauzia says:

This is silly. No smiling and when I look at my passport photo, all I can say is LOL.

  28. Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any suggestions?

  29. IamCanadian says:

ABC: You should go back to the oppressed country you came from!!

  30. Lotty says:

What I can’t figure is why passport photos are so expensive in Canada, is it lack of demand? I was quoted $17.99 plus tax at Walmart for 2 photos! In the UK I can get six for $10 including tax. Why is this country so bloody expensive even for suc h simple things as photos!

    • Adoxa says:

Canadians get ripped off with everything, look at prices (identical merchandise) between the US and Canada. Passport pictures go to Costco, I know you need a membership. Cannot win, can we. Now getting a 10 year passport so I am done for life.

  31. InsideFX says:

Smiling prevents the computer from recognizing a person’s face. It is difficult for a computer to match a serious and smiling face.
