Do you wear socks to bed?

Other / Canada

socksbed

Get your mind out of the gutter! I’m talking about sleep.  When you go to sleep at night do you lose the socks or keep ’em on?  I generally wear socks to bed unless it’s really hot out. My tootsies get chilly very easily.  I’m also a blanket thief and end up uncovering my own feet all the time. I only ever wear ankle socks though, socks that are any higher annoy me.  My husband is the opposite. He cannot sleep with socks on at all.

Socks or no socks?

  2. roseofblack25 says:

I can’t wear pants or socks to bed! It doesn’t matter how cold I am I just can’t do it. I know people that can sleep in sweatpants/pj pants but for me they get twisted and very uncomfortable.

  3. jen says:

I used to always wear socks to bed, until my first pregnancy when my feet were always hot. I can’t wear socks to bed at all anymore, and it’s been 15 years since I had my first child. I have to have flannel sheets though no matter the season.

  4. kerry says:

  9. Sammers says:

    I need my feet covered.

  10. Barb says:

It all depends. I do wear socks to bed, but only when it’s really cold and I need to add extra layers to stay warm, or when I’m sick and have chills from a fever. Other than that, I find that even if I try to wear them, they bug me and I wind up taking them off. When I DO wear them, I also stick to ankle socks, though when I lived in the north and didn’t have the warmest bedroom – even with the electric blanket, I would wear socks long enough (usually higher ankle socks) that I could tuck my pyjama pants into so they wouldn’t ride up my legs in the night.

  11. Coupon Kim says:

    No socks…

  12. abbasgirl says:

Normally I don’t. But last week we had several days/nights in a row with below minus 20 windchill. I did a lot of stuff outdoors and my feet were like ice at the end of the day. So I would warm them up in water before bed and then protect them from getting cold again with fleece socks.

  13. Deuce says:

Looks like a 33/33/33 split so far

No socks. I love to wear socks though and the only time I take them off is for bed. I hate having cold feet.

Socks – seeing it so much makes it suddenly sound like quite a silly word….

  18. Litesandsirens911 says:

Not unless it’s REALLY cold, because I always sleep with an open window..but when it’s so cold, I have been known to sleep even in a scarf and tuque…I have no shame, lol

  22. TM says:

    In the winter only.

  23. Adam says:

Feet need to breathe at night! They get sweaty and locked up all day so this is their only opportunity to have some freedom.

  24. Nicole says:

NO SOCKS! If my feet get hot, my whole body feels like its boiling, but I have camped in -40C, and yes socks are just fine in that environment!

  25. Roy says:

It’s been proven that when you have warm feet it’s easier to ‘cuddle’

  26. Chantal says:

I regularly wear socks to bed. I have ever since I read a scientific study – see http://www.dreamdoctor.com/improve-yours-sleep/warm-feet.html
that says warmer feet and hands are an indicator of the body’s readiness to fall asleep.

  27. jasmynflower says:

socks until I unconsciously remove them…

Always socks! I wake up in the night cold if they fall off.

  40. vibrantflame says:

Not unless I’m freezing cold, and even then I usually end up having to take them off at some point. My husband is the human equivalent of an electric blanket (seriously I’ve seen times where he’s so hot that just touching him causes me to start to sweat lol), so usually I’m too hot.

  41. Kim says:

If my feet are really cold, then I’ll go to bed with socks on…but they’re usually kicked off sometime in the middle of the night.

  42. supermommy says:

    only when its really cold

  43. Brenda says:

Blah no socks in bed. I need to regulate my temp by putting one outside the blanket throughout the night. I only wear socks in shoes; they get whipped off as soon as I get home. Bare feet all the way!

  44. Mark says:

    Socks all the time !

    Socks – winter and summer!

  47. nightlite says:

Yes in the winter! Always. I have terrible circulation so I dress like I’m going outdoors for bed. Then figures I wind up taking them off during the course of the night.

  48. Stephania says:

Most of the time, YES, especially in the Winter! However, I’m also that person who wears a scarf, sweatshirt, & jogging pants as well.

  49. rain4ever says:

No socks… if i do wear them I get nightmares. I know I am weird!

  50. Keek says:

Nope, don’t wear socks to bed! wouldn’t that make your feet sweaty?

  51. Spidy says:

I started wearing socks at night recently (only in winter) and it is so comfortable as my feet get cold easily. Most of the time although when i wake up, i have to find one of the socks in the blanket 😉

  52. Alexandra says:

I wear socks to bed in the winter.

  53. Cigale says:

Always the fun questions… socks and lotion when I get crocodile feet in the hope of reversing the situation.

  54. lizzy says:

Never! And I have to waer shorts, no pants! Don’t like my pants getting all twisted while I sleep!

  55. Theresa says:

I read once that wearing socks to bed helped one sleep better. I didn’t believe it but figured I had nothing to lose. Turns out it really does. Now come summer there is no way I am wearing socks to sleep.

  56. Louise says:

No socks for me, It doesn’t matter how cold it is outside mt feet are always always hot. It’s a faimly trait lol I could never wear socks to bed, I just get annoyed

  57. Lana says:

Only when my feet are freezing cold (usually when camping!). I can’t focus on sleep when I am trying to warm up my feet! I would say maybe 30 days out of the 365 days haha.

  58. dori says:

yes. but only in winter time

  59. susan says:

    socks

i love socks in bed. just in winter though!!!

  61. Jillei83 says:

socks to bed. yuck, disgusting. I couldn’t stand it! and yes.. I’ve tried

  62. Alex says:

I love this question. Anyone I have EVER had a sleepover with have always commented how it is weird, and some have even tried to force me to take them off–but I won’t! My feet feel exposed unless I wear socks to bed 🙂

  63. roars says:

Socks in bed? long pants or top? NO way a torture, I have not even tried them, unthinkable, unimaginable, I just can’t sleep!!! The strange thing is that I fall asleep often fully clothed with even my shoes on, in bed, on the couch, in the car??? I think is the old age, no offense, though.

  64. strachen says:

I have just started. Wool no less. I have poor circ. and it helps keep them warm. I was in the hospital for a week without socks and it was tough. The weird thing was that the doctor noticed my feet didn’t feel cold when I was complaining of such. I had a girlfriend once that considered it very unattractive to wear such things to bed. I told that at least I took my runners off…

  65. joline says:

sometimes….depends on how cold I am….but like others, by the time my morning comes, they tend to be thrown across the other side of the room. I used to wear them all the time but then I started getting REALLY hot feet in the summer time that socks were omitted from my regular routine.

  66. Chelsey says:

Almost every night! If I don’t wear socks to bed, I shiver throughout the night! Except in the summer.

No socks to bed, even at -40 – and socks in general as little as often; I feel suffocated by them!
Husband is my foot and body warmer, if need be.

  68. Valerie says:

I have to wear my special mohair sock and then I will fall asleep.

  69. Nayya says:

No socks! Tho I always put a folded blanket over the feet when putting the sheets on the bed so it keeps my feet warm ^_^!

  70. ACQ says:

Not usually socks to bed. A few years ago, my toes would get excessively cold and I would wear ankle socks to bed, and like many others, they would slide off by morning. Not quite sure what changed, but in the last couple years, I can’t sleep with socks on, even if it’s really cold under the covers. I’ve used hot water bottles at the foot of the bed to warm up the spot, though.

  71. John says:

    Hi,
If my feet are cold, YES to sox! I recall some accidental study by NASA that socks can help you sleep faster because it improves your body circulation and lowers your body temperature thus enabling you to fall asleep faster.

(The NASA study was accidental because the astronauts fell asleep with their socks on and from there, they found out that wearing sox helps!)

  72. natalie says:

In the winter, most nights. I usuall end up kicking them off at some point throughout the night though! I have quite the stash of socks at the end of my bed!
In the summer however, I never wear them! Too hot with them!

  73. glowworm2k says:

We keep our house much cooler than most people to save on energy. For this reason, socks in bed are a necessity for me, as are slippers in the daytime!

  74. kekes says:

I have a pair of knitted bed slippers I wear when my circulation to my legs/feet is bad. If I can get my feet warm the rest of me stays warm!

  75. Jen says:

I have poor circulation in my feet and as a result my feet are always cold–but I just can’t wear socks to bed! Or with shoes, can’t stand that!

The only time I like wearing socks is with sandals, that’s surprisingly comfortable for me. (Plus it means no one can see my feet! I don’t know about anyone else but I HATE seeing other people’s feet… grosses me out!)

  76. karen says:

I always wear socks to bed my feet are always cold.

i get cramps in my feet if i don’t ….i’m always cold ‘cept in the summer. i know it isnt very sexy however…

  78. Scarecrow says:

no socks, i like my feet to breathe when sleeping

  79. samm says:

    socks!!!

  80. Dayanara says:

No socks for me, cannot fall asleep with them on.

  81. Julia says:

No socks! Unless they’re down filled socks:)

No socks, but to my husbands dismay I create a foot pocket! where I tuck the blankets under my feet… drives him crazy because I am so short!!

  83. Steve-O says:

Socks for daytime naps! No socks for nightime sleep!

  84. dizzyb says:

  90. crochetlady says:

I hate wearing socks at any time so definitely no socks in bed.

  91. Patty says:

Can’t stand socks in bed. I tried but “NOP” it does not work for me. I also need to have my feet off the blanket….then put them back inside. lol

  92. Ciel says:

Socks, the terry spa kind with very little elastic, for cold nights are a must along with flannel sheets. Otherwise, there is no sleep and huddling for warmth.

The regular socks tend to have elastic that is too tight for sleep.

  93. jicky says:

I DO wear socks to sleep!! I usually wear my toe-socks and they keep my feet warm throughout the night. Very seldom will i wear it in the summer.

  94. Amy says:

I took it off when I go to bed. We already wears socks during the day. Our feet need some time to breathe out when we in bed.
I believe (don’t know if I shouldn’t or not) and was being told from my great grandmama that we will get “blind” if we wears socks in bed, due to the whole feet is being ‘tighted’ and ‘covered’.
Nothing hurt me if I take it off when I’m in bed, right !?
Same theory people, walk on bare feet, right on the top of small stone, since there’s so many nerves under our feet, for being healthier.

  95. Tim says:

I love women who wear white slouch socks ! Especially Hooters style girls _ Wear any white socks ladies
