CFIA Food Recall Warning: Great Value Food & No Name Brands of Pie and Tart Shells Recalled Due to Possible E. coli O121 Contamination

Harlan Bakeries – Edmonton is recalling various brands of pie and tart shells due to possible E. coli O121 contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.

What you should do

Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

It is not safe to taste or eat raw dough or batter regardless of the type of flour used, as raw flour can be contaminated with harmful bacteria such as E. coli O121. Food contaminated with E. coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

    Obviously this is terrorism. You dont get an ecoli outbreak ever week.

      hey dude , today there is more access to reporting recalls and incidents in food production than ever before and more stringent guidelines and government health and safety rules to adhere to and thats why we have so many recalls, I work in grocery retail and recalls are sent to our stores from corporate head office and every week we get recalls , there has not been a week gone by with nooooooooo recalls , and some companies may even do voluntary recalls aswell that add to numbers
