Free Movies in Edmonton This Weekend

http://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/news/2009/14128.aspx

I’ve gone to a few of these and they’re pretty fun! They have a huge inflatable movie screen set up in Churchill Square and you bring a lawn chair, blankets, whatever. They sell cheap snacks on site including popcorn and canned pop and candy. They sell glow necklaces, too. Before the movie, they (smartly so) have about an hour of entertainment for the kids like putting contests and right before the show a super dance-off to wear them right out. It’s awesome! Fun to watch the kids dance and it makes the movie watching experience so much better because the kids aren’t running around. Even the bums stop by and watch. Can’t beat a free flick no matter what your circumstances!

    Hey,
I love this website, but you really shouldn’t use the word “bum.”

miss_jolie, she just meant it in an informal fun way as a figure of speech. There’s no reason to take it seriously 🙂

They don’t mind being called bums. I don’t mean it in a demeaning way. They’re people just like everyone else. That’s why I think it’s so great that they have an opportunity to watch a movie for free now and then. 🙂 I talk to some of them on occasion. Everybody has a story.

Even if you don’t live in this area keep an eye out, the town next to us holds these events for free as well.

Brings back fond memories….We had this on the beach every Friday in my hometown when I was young. But then it was in the bad ole days when the alternative was watching a scratchy VHS tape on a 19 inch screen. Never thought that this would be popular in the age of Netflix , BluRay and HDTVs!

Retro is cool! They should bring back the drive-in movies and just have a radio station everyone can tune into for the sound. That would be awesome.
