To make these thing healthier try asking for it with chocolate milk or milk instead of the cream. Cuts down the calories considerably. A friend who used to work at Tim’s told me that trick.

  5. spiffykerms says:

Yeyeehh! Love freebies, totally going to try this out.

  6. Grena says:

I hope people know that iced coffee is not made with fresh brewed coffee, but refrigerated unsold coffee from the night before. It’s a way for TH to waste less. They cover up the unfresh taste of the coffee by adding A LOT of cream and sugar. It’s no wonder they’re giving it away for free – it doesn’t cost them anything anyway.

  24. tray says:

Got one on Front Street downtown TO. It was free and NO lineup!! Tasty too…

  25. Frugal P says:

I went to a few of them and they all said they weren t participating , then finally found 1 and apparently their ice making machine broke so they couldn t offer anymore of them yet they we re glad to offer me an Iced CRAP for 2$. Umm here s an idea for TH next time u revolutionize the world with another free offer , make sure you can support it cause ya people like free stuff just as much as you guys like to charge 7$ for piss soup and a panini

  26. ed says:

It was very watered down for me as well. I guess that’s universal for TH iced coffees everywhere. Def not worth paying for. The McD’s one was free today as well… bigger cup and way way way better iced coffee! That I’d pay for.

  27. ThatguyRob says:

IMO the Mcdonalds one tastes better (i’m amazed as well) Tim hortons one tasted like day old coffee chilled :S

  28. Julie says:

Once I arrived there, the place was full, I have no problem with that it was to be expected. When my turn arrives, they are telling me that there is no more left because they have no more ice. So at first, I ask for a coupon and they told me it didn’t work that way. After I asked for a similar drink because they couldn’t offer me what they promised on their ad. Again ” it doesn’t work like that” so finally I ask for a manager and they said he was not available ( you expect hundreds of people for this event and no manager ?! ) So now I got mad. I started to insist for my an other free drink with no success. After all this time now they are telling me, it’s just the machine that needs to cool down you can wait 20 minutes. All of this while the Tim Hortons is jammed pack. There was no specific waiting line so even if I waited 20 minutes somewhere inside or outside and come back I would of probably missed my change again. So what I did is I told them that it’s either I wait 20 minutes in front of their cash blocking everyone from ordering or they give me another free drink. They still didn’t want to give it to me so I stood there for 20 minutes given them a really hard time (not screaming they just had a hard time getting peoples orders) I know it sucks for the rest of the people, but this was my reaction due to their action and lack of action. This is not even over yet. Once I got my drink, the girl in front of the cash turned around and asked the girl who made my drink while laughing ” so what did you put in it” Now that really pissed me off. I asked for an other one made in front of my eyes and they eventually did. They only time i elevated my voice is when they started insulting me saying I was crazy and stupid for standing there. Anyways… do you think I overreacted or was this fair game on my part due to their lack of customer service ?

  29. Lulu says:

Not bad, not worth the 110 calories and 6g of fat though 🙁
Probably wouldn’t be my choice of drinks.

  30. kingy says:

i just had one in vancouver and i didnt find it watered down at all. it was very good.

i wouldnt pay $2 for it tho, but i think they did give me the ‘small’ size. it wasnt a special container that they use only for freebies.

  31. moochi says:

    the drink was okay
they were expecting u to come and get it
seems like they were recording how many ppl were asking for the freebie
    good promotion =D

and yah it was a special “small” size

  32. omg julie says:

That story was pathetic Julie. Get a life. I hope they did put something in it.

    People are so retarded

  33. Wow Julie says:

When I was in high school I worked in fast food and people like that are so annoying. It’s not like the people had anything they could do about it. Smart Canucks is about helping each other save money not being cheap selfish a**holes.

  34. Erica says:

I think you over reacted a little bit there Julie. Having worked in customer service before things cant be helped when machines break down or need time to cool. As for them offering you something else for free, there’s no need for thats. If you wanted to purchased something and they were out of it, you would not demand another item for the first items price.

  35. Mike says:

Why do people turn into complete cannibals when they hear the word “free” or “sale”? I mean yes this is a deals site, but you saved a whole two bucks, yippee – actually not even that since you probably wouldn’t have paid for it if it wasn’t free. And it’s worth that to be a total jackass to all the employees and everyone else trying to get a drink or food, some of whom might even be wanting to pay for it? Like seriously, you don’t get a free drink, so what? Why do people have to act so freakin’ entitled to every last cent they can scrounge?

  36. Larry says:

I agree with Mike. So, Julie, does it make you happy now that you’ve had your cheap diabetic drink, and in the process, made yourself appear to be a total bitch in front of dozens of customers who just want to purchase their food? I don’t see anything wrong with the service they provided; I absolutely disagree when you claim that you are ‘entitled’ to a free drink – they told you nicely that it doesn’t work like that, so fine accept it. It’s not your friggin’ RIGHT, it’s a PRIVILEDGE to get the freebie in the first place! It’s not like you’re fighting on behalf of the less fortunate, you’re just being a total jerk over a stupid drink. So how was the free iced chocolate? Bet it was totally worth sacrificing your time, effort and reputation.

  37. Hilda says:

I got two of these drinks today. One I asked for at one Tim Hortons and 3 hours later at a different Tim Hortons they gave me one when I ordered a hot coffee without me asking ~ I wasn’t complaining! I enjoyed both of them but I wouldn’t buy it over a hot coffee. It was super busy for the drinks but I expected that.

    Nice freebie

  38. Sally says:

Its gorgeous weather out, summer is almost here lets smile people.

  39. Julie is a dum dum! says:

    smiles!

  40. ed says:

Julie, wow… seriously you need to chill, girl! All that over a free watered down ice coffee?? You should have just gone to McD’s and gotten a way better and bigger iced coffee – flavored too and without the crowds! The thing you have to realize is that in fast food, you totally get what you pay for. It’s not like the products are the healthiest for you. And you will never get the service you would get at a 5-star restaurant. Once you understand that, just be decent and understanding. They’re ppl too. And why would anybody offer a coupon for something that’s supposed to be free for everybody anyways? It’s not like you lost something. You were inconvenienced because of bad timing or bad luck or whatever. If everybody had to wait 20 mins, why cause all that fuss for nothing? Just saying.

  41. carlycanadian says:

I liked the iced coffee at TH, it was a hot day & was refreshing! I tried the McDonalds’ one before but didn’t like theirs.

  42. Roxy says:

I don’t think it was old coffee from the day before because I had to wait for mine at the drive through due to the coffee cooling down and the sheer number of people wanting one would mean that they would run out of old coffee fast.

It wasn’t bad and mine was not too sweet. But would I pay two bucks for it in the future? Not likely. Water from home is free, cheaper and much healthier.

  43. Julie says:

My notion is: you offer something for free, you better be able to provide it or offer a raincheck for it (which my friends at another Tim Horton’s location were given) I go to that location on a daily basis spent 600$ there last year just in breakfast (know this because of my credit card invoices). I am a nice customer, say please, thank you and all.

I work in customer service and have worked with customers for over 6 years.

In life, you have to have a contingency plan. You prepare for the worst and have to be able to offer your client a solution.

For those who said it’s pathetic, you are entitled to your own opinions. But trust me when I tell you, Tim Horton’s lost my 600$ a year.

  44. Scott says:

Lost your 600 dollars? They’re probably just happy they don’t have to deal with you anymore.

  45. omg julie says:

I agree with scott. They probably would take the 600$ loss not to deal with you anymore

  46. Julie says:

Awesome! You guys keep getting screwed over by big business who make empty promises. Some people have principles, because trust me I didn’t want their watered down coffee, I wanted them to keep their word. If nobody fights this kind of crap, companies will keep pulling the wool over our eyes.

“I agree with scott. They probably would take the 600$ loss not to deal with you anymore” Haha. Ok.

I wrote a letter to Tim Horton’s customer service and surprise surprise, they apologized for the actions of their employees which they said were uncalled for… Which is omission of guilt in my books.

  47. Julie says:

I also wanted to mention one last scam that another one of my friends was privy to at another TH location. She went in, asked for a free iced coffee and was told that to get it, she needed to buy a donut. She didn’t know what was true anymore, she bought the donut. The owner of the TH was basically mad that he wasn’t selling a lot that today, handing out a bunch of freebies so he was putting all this money in his pockets. Greed.

I prefer going to Starbucks where they blatantly laugh in your face stating; ok buy my 5$ coffee that isn’t worth 5$. At least they are up front about screwing people over…

  48. layniejoy says:

Tim Hortons definitely kept their word! They gave you your iced coffee for free. It’s not their fault that the machine broke – things happen. These people are making minimum wage, probably trying to make enough to live and taking crap like that from people like you. Your anger was misdirected in the first place, which is why you got that reaction. And any SmartCanuck who will a) spend $5 on coffee and b) puts their coffee on a MasterCard doesn’t really sound like a Smart Canuck, in my opinion.

Anyway, I think the reason some of the iced coffees seemed watered down is probably because the coffee was too hot and then melted the ice cubes – thus watering it down. I’ve had it before, and it was really good, but yesterday mine was pretty watered down (with little to no ice cubes). You get what you pay for!I ended up giving my cashier an extra $2 (also bought two iced caps) telling him I’m sure he’s been working really hard today.

I really want to try the McDonald’s Iced Coffee now. Mmmmm I hear they have rolo!

  49. Julie says:

Putting coffee on a mastercard that I pay on time that gives me back rewards is really stupid… Yeah ok…

  50. Julie says:

These people are making minimum wage, probably trying to make enough to live and taking crap like that from people like you:

Hopefully I’ve motivated them to find another job, to strive for something better.

  51. layniejoy says:

It’s difficult and completely unfair for you to think they aren’t striving. I’m an educated woman working as a waitress right now, as I’m having trouble finding a job in my field. Education isn’t cheap and not everyone is able to get the funding to attend. At least they are working, and not feeding off the government.

  52. Julie says:

I live in Quebec and the people who work at TH are for the most part people who are not able to find other jobs because they are not fully bilingual. I once went to a Tim Horton where the cashier had trouble speaking either official language. It might be different in the province where you live, I am just telling you that for the most part, the individuals who I have dealt with in these outlets were not able to provide a good level of customer service, they seemed to be bothered by serving clients, which is what their job is supposed to be! This experience I just had furthers confirms how inept they are.

  53. Mike says:

I think it’s more of a case of picking your battles… I mean if they refused to honour something big, like a gift card, that’s one thing, but in my opinion it looks kind of petty for something cheap that you don’t even really want. Principles is one thing, but it’s not like Tim’s is screwing anyone over by sometimes not giving a free coffee. Do you have the right to complain and escalate it to Head Office and demand an apology, of course you do, but is it really smart to take advantage of every right you’re given? I don’t think so. I mean 20 minutes of your time is worth way more than $2. As for the principles part, you say they admitted guilt, but… it’s not like Nixon’s Watergate scandal is being exposed here! Working in customer service, I’m sure you know or at least suspect that whoever talked to you was giving a “ok I’ll apologise so you’ll stop bothering me and not say bad things about the company” apology – they must have done since they didn’t investigate or anything. I personally think things in general would be much smoother if people didn’t feel like Che Guevara every time they had a tiny excuse to stick it to the man.

  54. Julie says:

If I worked there, I would have given the client a raincheck to shut him or her up like the other TH outlet did. It’s poor PR on their part.

  55. Kat says:

Wow Julie. I think you need to find a way to better occupy your time. You seem very desperate for attention.

    sorry.

  56. omg julie says:

rain check on a free ice coffee??????????

    hahah-too funny

  57. love2shop says:

I’m going to have to agree with Julie on this one. I did work in customer service and I did WHATEVER it took to please the customer. Yes, it did seem a little over the top for such a small thing, but in my opinion, it’s not the point of how much something is, it’s the principle.

  58. Julie says:

“Wow Julie. I think you need to find a way to better occupy your time. You seem very desperate for attention.

    sorry.”

I think the ones desperate for attention are the ones that instead of explaining their arguments against me just say stuff like: you are pathetic, you are crazy, blablabla. If you are intelligent, you make intelligent arguments, instead of attacking people with insults. When I went to the TH, I did not scream, I did not call anyone names. I respected them. As should people on a forum discussing should do. But alas, you have proven to me that people on forums are for the most part not able to discuss things properly.

Mike didn’t agree with me and he didn’t insult me. That’s fine.
Omg Julie didn’t agree but was unable to bring any intelligent arguments on the table. I respect people who argue but actually have a point… Keep this in my mind next time you post on this site.

  59. love2shop says:

Forget to ask everyone….how was the iced coffee? I haven’t tried it yet.

  60. bowls says:

Tim Horton’s never promised to have Iced coffee available at all locations all day. It promised it was free.

Julie there were sooo many Tim Horton’s that didn’t even have a machine to make it let alone ran out. The two closet to me had nothing! Wasn’t super happy.

What would you have done if the tim’s you went to wasn’t selling them at all on that day?

  61. Blah says:

Julie: “I also wanted to mention one last scam that another one of my friends was privy to at another TH location.”

Lol she said friends thats all =P

  62. WOW says:

Julie, I think you should give it a rest.

  63. hailea says:

I had one, and it was really terrible. Far too sweet. I dumped half of it out, and added my own iced coffee with more cream, and it was still quite sweet.

  64. Annie says:

I know this is long past the time all the hub bub was going on but I have worked at a Timmies and every pot of old coffee is tossed down the drain..

Word to the Wise because fools never listen LOL You can ask for coffee just the way you like it…and have it poured over a glass of ice at just about any fast food restaurant . I always order the decaf..to my specs and enjoy my ice coffee all the time on a hot day..
