NOTE: This is now confirmed. Some stores will be renovated to Best Buy stores but all Future Shop stores are closed effective immediately.
Some shoppers and employees showed up to Future Shop stores today to find they had been closed effective immediately. While Future Shop has been closing stores over the last year, the move to close all stores has come as a surprise with people tweeting images of closed stores asking them to visit their nearest Best Buy store.
It looks like the website will soon be shut down too, the Future Shop app asks people to download the Best Buy app with the message “Future Shop and Best Buy are consolidating under the Best Buy brand. That means, the products, services, and features you have come to expect from FutureShop.ca can be found at BestBuy.ca“.
While some news outlets have mentioned that the website was taken down, it seems to have been a glitch as it is showing now so you can check the status of orders and currently can still order items and you can use the app to view to other pages. However, it also shows that you can still pick up orders in stores so there is a lot of confusion over which stores have closed.
While the company has not issued a statement, there have been images from all over the country with closed stores, it does seem to be true. If you are close to a store and can check, we would love to know if any stores are still open!

What does this mean for warranties? I just got a remote car starter from there. Maybe best buy will be honoring them?
Good news and bad news; the good news is BB/FS are already almost the same anyway, so if warranty transfers are to happen it should be fairly smooth. Bad news, warranties from Futureshop are essentially useless because they screw you around and don’t actually fix your problem or inconvenience you for so long that it’s ridiculous.
I paid extra for the added warranty on a PC I bought from there and they wouldn’t even fix it without taking it for TWO WEEKS. For a fan problem that every one of those models had that they already had the parts to fix it with. And they wouldn’t take an appointment.
They have said they will honour gift cards and warranties
Sucks for people expecting to pick up items from current warranty issues or Geek Squad locations etc who have items held at the moment
