H&M x Versace: Yes or No?

Other / Canada

Coloured leopard jacket, exotic, tropical & Asian-inspired jumpsuit, a gold lamé & a leather dress, and throw in a fuchsia coloured suit for men, and you get H&M’s latest collaboration with Versace!

Similar to my feelings about Roberto Cavalli, Versace is a hit or miss because it can be often very bold. Clothing from both these designers is definitely meant for the fashion-fearless – especially the men’s collection for H&M, please see below.

I probably love colour and mixing up prints more than the average ‘burbanite, but even I think that the H&M’s latest designer collaboration is for a small, select group of people.

To be honest, I haven’t been blown away by past collaborations. For example, with Lanvin, I was uber-excited…that is until I actually saw the quality of the items.

(Yes, I realise that it is just H&M, with a different label slapped on it, but the prices are higher than non-designer H&M, so I do expect same if not better quality.)

With the upcoming release of H&M x Versace, on Saturday, November 19th, in select locations, will you be lining up to snatch these “designer” duds at budget prices?

As a general rule I like H & M. I love their kids clothes and that they are fairly cutting-edge, fashion-wise, for a cheaper clothing store. My problem with H & M is that their sizing is so inconsistent!

Also, it stuns me that they don’t offer online shopping yet. I have to drive 3 hours to the nearest H & M, and I sure would buy a lot more from them if I could order online.

A definite no. I don’t buy clothes just because they’re attached to a designer name. H&M clothing is disposable clothing but in the end money is money. Buy quality – not quantity. As far as ever lining up to buy something? NEVER.

Lost a bit of interest in the line when I heard that Donatella Versace refused to use the “real” models for her line, which they would range in sizes from 0-6, which isn’t even big. She turned them down and chose her own tall skinny models… which means the clothes may not flatter the average person’s body type. Also I find it is really overpriced for H&M, and I think its just an attempt to bring back the popularity of Versace since it seems to be dying down

They only look good on the very skinny, tall people– a small portion of the population. They also don’t wash well and therefore don’t last. I suppose because they are a bit edgy maybe that’s the idea.

My 4 kids who are on the “petite” side for North American BMI/growth charts, usually float in American-appropriate-size, but have perfect-fit in HM-vision-of-sizing. They usually have nice colours and current “more mature trends”, but nobody in my family wants their t-shirts with pop culture reference.

I go from being an 8 at Mark’s (Work Warehouse) to a 14 at H&M. Call my size what you want, but please be consistent.

It’s difficult to remember where you found an item, if you went into the dressing-room with the wrong size, because the variety they offer is the visual equivalent of Goodwill! So much choice all mixed-up. If you like a shirt which is available in 8 colours, it will be in 8 different areas to make the store (too) dynamic. I am more into the (Real Canadian Superstore) Joe Fresh shopping experience then then H&M riffling/digging/scavenging experience, even if I find attractive pieces, because I value my time.

As for the men’s suits (such as awesome pink one) and even some of the things that are to be found in the section for teenage boys. I wish more men went for it, but it may come across as too metrosexual or rock-star for males outside of the large urban centres. Come on guys. Break the style barrier. We’ll be all over you!

I loved this collection, but I also loved the Cavalli collection, if that means anything 🙂 The pieces I bought were of high quality, studded silk skirts and dresses, and the leather jackets and dress were made of soft lambskin. As long as you don’t wear all of it together at once, the collection flatters. My favorite piece is the studded leather trench coat, it has become my winter coat as our winter is pretty mild so far. 🙂 Thanks for doing a post on h&m versace
