As you may already be aware, Home Depot Canada had their systems hacked which released payment information of many of their customers! They have apologized and to try and make it up to you, they have come up with this idea.
If you have purchased something from Home Depot Canada since April 2014 then you can sign up and receive 1 Year of Equifax Premier for FREE to make sure that nobody is using your information or accessing your accounts. This is valued at $199.
Equifax Premier has lots of excellent benefits. They will include:
- A maximum of $50k Identity Theft Insurance
- You can access your Credit Score and Report as much as you like
- They monitor your credit constantly and will send email notifications anytime your credit profile changes
- You will also receive an alert when your information is being used on the internet.
- If you lose your wallet, there is a One Click option to cancel your debit and credit cards, cheques and anything else you may need stopped if your wallet is stolen or lost.
Canadian residents will need to call Equifax for registration information. Their number is provided (English and French) in the link below.
This isn’t a freebie for everyone – only for people who have shopped at Home Depot since April 2014 and used their credit card to make their purchase. You will call the phone number in the link below and request your Equifax service. They will look into the systems and if you are eligible they will provide you with a unique code to get your FREE Equifax Service.

The line rings busy non-stop…and the Canadian phone number changed from the 866-205-0679 that was published on their site yesterday morning. Sigh, another great job done by a large corporation.
Just called this number got through in 10 seconds. It is the Canadian site, answered in Philippines. Site is slammed though after enter contact info it just clocks.
I got through after about 5 minutes of redialing, they did not need any information other then my name.
I signed up for this and was really disappointed to see that after the free 12 months, you start getting charged $16/month! There could be a lot of upset Home Depot customers a year from now…
If you don’t enter a payment method such as a credit card the protection will expire after 12 months.
Did anyone have any trouble signing up? It wouldn’t accept my code.
Just called – apparently it’s only for people who are victims of the security breach.
Great
@Matthew just in case you missed this part. “If you have purchased something from Home Depot Canada since April 2014 then you can sign up and receive 1 Year of Equifax Premier for FREE to make sure that nobody is using your information or accessing your accounts”
Bree this not really a free bee, coupon etc but a good wlll effort to try to prevent lawsuits. Nonetheless it is good to let people know that don’t read the new. It’s lose (lost) not loose (not tight)
I’ve got the code from Home Depot but the AllClearID service is assuming I am in America and won’t let me register without a social security number, state and zip code details.
oh and I see that I should actually have been sent an Equifax number. doh
