While news broke out all over the place today about Hostess filing for bankruptcy this does not effect the Canadian Hostess. They are separate entities. This is great news for us Canadians as Hostess (ie Wonderbread) employs a lot of people here. Hopefully the US chapter will be able to restructure and get back on its feet.
Speaking of Hostess, does anyone actually eat Twinkies anymore?
Not surprised. I rarely see Twinkies in the grocery store…I guess they’re in variety corner stores?
I don’t think I’ve ever bought Hostess Twinkies from the grocery store… We usually buy Little Debbie cakes and Vachon cakes (Jos Louis, Lune Moon, etc).
Glad to hear Canada is still afloat! I know there are lots of people employed by the company – including some friends of mine! I used to love Twinkies as a child, but not anymore. My fiance however, loves them!! I only buy them when they are on sale and when they are, I buy them at Food Basics!
It was also only Blockbuster US that filed for bankruptcy, but that didn’t stop them from ultimately shutting down all Canadian locations.
Seeing the picture makes me want one (or more). It’s been too long since I had one.
I would not say I eat twinkies in the public.
I think I had a twinkie once and it was gross!! We eat Vachon cakes and the little debbie snacks here.
Hostess USA products are totally different than Hostess Canada. I’m a US transplant to Canada and man do I miss my snowballs and other yummy american goodies.
Hostess files for bankruptcy protection not bankruptcy. So it’s not quite the end yet.
I’m a Canadian that lived in Calif, Mich, Va and Illinois. I always loved Ding Dongs, aka King Dons, I believe in Canada.
Frozen twinkies are the bomb
Wonderbread in Canada is produced by George Weston Bakeries.
Hostess cakes in Canada are produced by Vachon (Saputo Bakery).
Both companies are very strong so no fear for Canadian employees.
Good to hear Canada is OK…now I want a Twinkle!! lol
where are twinkies in alberta? havent seen any on our shelves in walmart for months..not that i care but hubby was wondering
Ew, don’t like Twinkies, but some of the Vachon and Little Debbie snackies are good (mmm… swiss rolls!).
I’m a huge Snowballs fan, and recently found some at a 7-Eleven (not sure of the brand), and they were pretty good.
MmmMmmMm Twinkies…
All of these things are horrible! Twinkies? Little Debbies? Joe Louis? They’re full of horrible ingredients. I did not know people still actually ate these things? GROSS! Why not take 20 minutes and bake some homemade cupcakes? or brownies? LAZY!
Not a true bankruptcy anyway, just a gimmick allowing companies to get rid of contracts and other costs just like the auto companies did 2 years ago. The US part will be still operate.
Twinkies are nothing but chemicals!!! No onder so many Americans are obese!
Weston’s owns Wonderbread (also Loblaws is Westons) Vachon is Hostess I believe.
I’m glad I’m not the only healthy-minded person, this kind of junk food should have a heavy tax on it, so unhealthy for everyone, especially kids!! Maybe some healthier snacks will gain ground instead, here’s hoping!!
I think It’s all about moderation. It also is about how foods are introduced to kids at a young age. I don’t think a heavy tax is needed. The odd time I want something like this I would hate for it to be heavily taxed.
I agree with thaggengirl: mark my words, the Canadian company will be closing its doors shortly.
I never could stomach Twinkies, but Hostess makes the only BBQ flavoured chips I like.
