IPAD Now Available in Canada, You getting one?

appleipad

So the ipad is now available at many different retailers in Canada, including the Apple Store. Besides the horrible name, I think it’s an awesome portable device to do lots of stuff on, the applications are endless and it can appeal to tons of different people for different reasons. It’s pretty light and sleek too and you can move the screen around all crazy, I was looking at it at Future Shop this past weekend. It’s definitely one of the hottest gadgets of this year.

What do you think of the ipad, does it interest you? Of if you have one, what are your impressions of it?

Prices start at $549 for the 16GB one, and $679 for one with WIFI. Click here to take a look at the ipad.

I will definitely not be purchasing this gadget. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a glorified iPhone or a miniaturized laptop, but it seems awkward to me. If I wanted to use it as a laptop, I would sure have a heck of a time trying to type on the thing, with my face looking straight down as it lays on the desk. That would sure hurt my neck.
Sure, it’s cute and thin and probably very light, but I just don’t see the use for it. And yes, the name is very bad.
If anyone watches MADTv, they did a skit a while back, making fun of the iPod commercials that featured silhouettes dancing on coloured backgrounds with white earbuds in their ears. And the “iPad” was a technologically advanced maxi pad that pretty much told you when it was time to change. How nasty! I wonder if the Apple people have seen that skit!

I am very excited to buy one! I was at the Apple Store the other day checking it out. It was awesome – very easy to use and I love how light weight it is. It will be ideal for doing my coupon trading on SC while sitting on the couch and relaxing. Or even in the back yard. I also saw a woman on the Metro using it to read a book. I started chatting with her and she let me take a look. It’s crazy – when you touch the screen to turn the page, it is like you’re actually turning the page of a book. It was very, very easy to read on too! The question for me isn’t if I am going to get one, but when!! 🙂 And that will be determined by when I can come up with the money!

  3. Jackie says:

Um… maybe I’m just dense, but I already have a laptop. Why would I need this?

  4. Heather says:

I definately would not. My phone and my laptop are enough, what is the point of this thing? I have enough to carry around with me…

  5. Paul says:

There are a lot of people that can’t see a use for it. They don’t see why they should get one when they have a laptop or a netbook and a phone already. Perfectly good opinions, but these people have not held one in their hands and used it for any length of time in all likelihood.
It isn’t meant to replace the laptop, but it can for those that use their laptops for simply web browsing, emailing, social networking, content viewing type of activities. I can turn it on, check my email and check the news headlines before my netbook has even finished loading windows. I read on it, watch movies, listen to music, play games, surf the net, keep my appointments straight on it’s calendar, keep a journal and do a multitude of other things all on a piece of electronics that is less than a kilo in weight and has a battery that lasts me all day long and charges as I sleep.

Certainly it is not for everyone, but everyone that has checked out mine for at least 10 or 15 minutes can see a use for it in their lives.

  6. Frugal.Tea says:

No, it hasn’t sparked my interest. Sure it would be good to read books on it but other than that it serves me no purpose.

  7. AmberLab says:

I was very interested until I found out that it can’t be upgraded. That to me is money in the trash.

  8. turtle-doves says:

I rather spend an extra $100-$200 for a larger laptop

  9. Sally says:

Nope I love my Windows 7 and Lappy way tooooo much. I`ve got a caddy of lappys and not interested in this overpriced enlarged iphone one bit.

  10. twinmommy says:

This is pretty cool. I got to test one out at one of the Apple Stores when we were on holiday in Florida in April. I don’t know if I would ever actually get one as I don’t believe I’m that much of a slave to my electronic gadgets just yet, however, if hubby picked one up for my birthday or Christmas I certainly would not be taking it back 🙂

  11. Steenibambini says:

Nope. Not interested in a finger-smudged screen.

  12. Dex says:

If I wanted something for reading a book I’d get the Kobo e-reader instead. Smaller, even lighter and cheaper.

  13. kristin says:

nope! if i wanted to use a computer i could use a real one, i don’t need that much technology in my pocket!!

  14. Kerri Rae says:

Regardless of how skeptical people are now, I’m glad Apple is bringing all the hype to the tablet computer, it’s been tried and failed and I think with the momentum behind this release the tablet form will gain popularity. I will not be purchasing this, I generally do not purchase first generation electronics, and I would love to see the day I can purchase an android or open source platform tablet. I’ve used it a few times and think it’s pretty great, exactly as expected for a tablet form from Apple, missing things I’d love, including things that are pretty great. I have Desktop PCs and Laptop computers, I have hand held computers (iphone, android phones) and I can absolutely see this being useful to me, especially with the most important accessory, velcro!! http://laughingsquid.com/ipad-velcro/

  15. Justine says:

@ Amberlab – ya you can’t upgrade it, that was a deal breaker for me too.

  16. sabina says:

No not for us we don’t like it at all

  17. Litesandsirens911 says:

no, I have an awesome Macbook Pro laptop, and a new iPhone…and besides to me reading isn’t the same if it isn’t a real book(paper copy)…also, I don’t like the fact that you can’t upgrade it anyways, just a waste IMO..

  18. FatB says:

I played with it on Monday at the Apple store. It was certainly a quaint gadget that is strictly in the WANT list rather than NEED list. Then I look at the price of this enlarge iPod, and for what it’s limited to it tends to fall off the want list also…

  19. Vivi says:

I can’t wait to get one. I love all of Apples products.

  20. sean m. says:

wow, this website is really turning into nothing more than a giant advertisement. boo!

  21. Jay says:

Count me out. Among the chief reasons is Apple’s ability to censor what I can put on it. I can’t wait for all the 8-10″ ebook/tablet knockoffs that are lining up for release this year. I’m especially interested in what ASUS will have by year end. Open, well built, and inexpensive – that’s what I’m looking for.

  22. missbobloblaw says:

I want one, but Canadas data service providers are the deal breaker for me! Give me unlimited data usage dammit!

  23. trucks12trucks says:

same as many..i dont see the purpose of it. i have a iphone and laptop..dont really need this inbetween thing. its not badly prices though.

  24. blue says:

i’d rather just get a mini-laptop which would cover more functions that the ipad. i like downloading and watching flash movies, streams in various formats and websites. apple is too restrictive for me.

  25. PROTECTEUR says:

I will not get one because of the following reasons:

    1. IT only haS 64GIG of storage which can be filled up pretty quick!!
    2. Its not upgradable (myswell throw money in fire lol)
    3. Its doesn’t have USB
    4. None of the Ipads can play flash so some websites and games will not work!!
    5. You have to use Itune to add music movies etc which sucks it basically takes lots of freedom away!!!

This is my to cents worth of it!

  26. mary1234 says:

we have one, its pretty rad. we have an imac & i’ve been happy with the apple products…. once you go mac, you never go back!

well… the apps and games are a lot of fun. my daughter is 3 and she can use it. we’re glad we got it.

    • Justine says:

@ sean m – “wow, this website is really turning into nothing more than a giant advertisement. boo!”

I think you are on the wrong site then if you are expecting anything else.. this is a deals and shopping forum/blog….

  27. Nice !! So Beautiful 🙂

  28. Colsgirl says:

I love mine I got it last Friday as a late birthday present. Using it now to post this. My laptop is on it’s way out and I got the iPad to replace it as I can do everything on this that I do on my laptop. Everyone who has played with my iPad loves it.

  29. dori says:

NO I DON’T LIKE IT, USELESS

  30. Erica says:

fine it useless. I have a macbook and a ipod touch. I dont see the need for one.

  31. bloo says:

I have a itouch and laptop, dont see the use of thise anyways unless I carryit to school and ditch my laptop but seriously… I think we shouldnt involve too much computers in our lives.

  32. Cheap says:

    Message to the blogger,

Why do you think the name Ipad is horrible?

What other names would you suggest?

  33. Stephania says:

    1. It just has “STEAL ME” written all over it.

    2. It looks like a vulnerable laptop to me. Not sure why the commercial shows people just carrying it all over as though it were a binder! (Too bad it’s not the same cost.)

    3. I’ve heard some terrible some things about the iPhone breaking down.

So all in all, it would be a no!

Btw, can you make phone calls on it? 😉

  34. Aslan says:

Nope. It’s not very good as an E-Reader due to the LCD screen, not upgradeable, and stuck with iTunes. It also costs too much for what it brings, and I could buy a nice, more useful laptop for $549-749.

  35. Paul says:

I’d hazard to guess that 90% of the people here that don’t want it or can’t find a use for it have not actually tried it out.

No worries, no one is forcing anyone to buy it.

By the way, it sold out in Canada in 3 days, over 2 million sold in first 60 days worldwide. Somebody must like it.

    Sent from my Ipad

  36. amycanada77 says:

it’s missing too many small details. waiting for the next ipad version.

  37. Eric says:

I’ve played with one a little bit. Decision: absolutely useless for me. I have a $50 MP3 player and, if I REALLY need to go online – I have a computer at home. The End.

  38. bambinoitaliano says:

To me IPad is the predecessor of IPod Touch, If Apple had come out with IPad before IPod Touch, I would have gone for it. Why would I need to spend more money buying more games and Apps from Itune just for IPad?

  39. Candice says:

I actually would really love to get one of these. I do not have a laptop or a cellphone, never had need for them. But as my son get’s more active, I never have time for the computer anymore. I already own a iMac, never would go back to PC, so this iPad really intrigued me. Would be nice to sit on couch and surf the net while my little one played.

  40. sean m. says:

wow, good great job on the censorship, mods. no, really.

starting to feel a bit like north korea around here.

  41. TaraF says:

Will I be buying this? Nope. But than again I’m not someone that is into techy kind of things. I have a basic Pay as you Go cell phone for emergencies only and I have a laptop that stays at home where I use it. I don’t see the point of taking a computer and phone with you everywhere you go unless you are in business of some sort. If you are a business person it makes sense, otherwise I think it’s pointless.
