Kellogg’s Corn Pops at Zellers – Price Match to Walmart

cornpops

So being in Ontario and unable to stack coupons, I finally found a great deal on Kellogg’s cereals at Zellers, by price matching to Walmart. Walmart has Kelloggs cereals (340 g – 775 g) on sale for $2.50 (ends Feb. 26, 2010). Zellers has Kellogg’s Corn Pops (775 g, the biggest size available), which regularly costs $9.49. I price matched the Jumbo Corn Pops to Walmart at $2.50 and used the Save $1 when you buy 2 Kelloggs cereals (from Toonies for Tummies). Zellers has a limit of 4 items when price matching so I got 4 boxes at $2.50 each, minus 2 of the $1 coupons, so $8 for 4 Jumbo boxes of Corn Pops. This ends up being less than the regular price of 1 box! If you have the $2 off any Kellogg’s product (mailed from company), you can get this box for $0.50! If you are able to stack coupons, you may very well get this for free! Check your local Zellers to see if you can take advantage of this great cereal deal.

Note: You can probably go straight to Walmart to see if they have this Jumbo box in stock, but my Walmart didn’t have any that’s why I had to go to Zellers.

    wow. they’re still totally unhealthy.

  2. Cleo_47 says:

Don’t forget to use your SPC discount at Zellers for further savings!

  3. Angie says:

not that this will matter for you now, but for other people…
the Toonies for Tummies coupons are NOT supposed to be redeemable at Zellers. My manager told us all the other the other day to look for them and not accept them since there only good at grocery stores…

  4. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Angie – Wow really? I have been able to use them at Zellers, Walmart, and SDM with no problems. I thought they were good everywhere.

  5. Trey says:

They say on the booklet which stores they are redeemable at. I don’t even think it’s “all” grocery stores either. Don’t remember seeing Loblaws on the list of redeemable places.

  6. Tara says:

Also, for stacking (at LD, I assume).. my LD doesn’t have Corn Pops, lol!

  7. Guest says:

I’m sorry, but you actually feed that crap to yourself and/or your kids! That is disgusting and should be considered dietary abuse!

  8. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Guest – Thank you for your opinion but what cereal I choose to buy for myself and/or my kids is none of your business. I simply posted a deal that I thought other people might be interested in.

  9. Sally says:

Oh gosh, theres a heck of a lot of other things you could be buying that are bad for your health. I’d rather see my kids have a bowl of cornpops with MILK then a pop tart for breakfast.

Dietary abuse? Are you serious. Theres so many other things to spend your time worrying about.

  10. Emily says:

Sally – you said it. Thanks for the great deal IRefuseToPayFullPrice!

  11. JJ says:

wow. is it just me or are visitors to this site becoming increasingly more hostile and judgmental?

  12. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Sally – I like the old school pic!

  13. Cheap says:

    Thanks for the post IRefuseToPayFullPrice.

I agree, what people eat is their own business.

That is what a democracy is supposed to be about: freedom of choice.

If the product was that unhealthy then it wouldn’t be sold as food.

  14. shelly says:

    cornpops ROCK!!!

  15. Sally says:

Aw crap Cheaps, is that why the PVC pipe I served for dinner last night wasn’t available at the grocery store? 😉

  16. shelly says:

    good one sally!!

  17. frugal_gal says:

I agree that what you buy, be it for yourself, your family, or someone else really isn’t any of my business.
Here is something I was thinking though….
for all we know the OP picked those up thinking of donating them to the food bank…I know some will give me grief for that thought! Point is though that if I donated to the food bank only foods I tend to eat that food wouldn’t leave the shelf or the recipient might just end up trashing it. I don’t see anything wrong with donating some food items that might not be the healthiest…if it is accompanied by some healthier food choices and eaten in moderation nothing wrong with a ‘treat’ once in a while.

Anyways, the point of the post was to point out a great deal should anyone be interested! and also provide a tip that can be easily applied to other items.

  18. Sara says:

Angie – Toonies for Tummies coupons have actaully been found at Zellers by multiple users. Inlcuding myself.

To the OP – Why are you promoting price matching at Walmart!??!?!? After all their complaining and threats to Boo?!?!

Why not just state that they are onsale and where!?

  19. CRA says:

With all that fancy foot work and time dedicated to save a few dollars, I sure hope you’re not up for a tax audit this year.

  20. shelly says:

    lets all be nice

  21. Sally says:

An audit because she got cornpops on sale?

  22. Jackie says:

Um… I doubt the CRA cares about couponing. That is funny, though. 😀

  23. Edward says:

Cornpop are good. It contain a lot of fibre. What’s your problem people?

  24. Anon says:

Perhaps the reason for the negative comments regarding food choices was because the OP specified having purchased four boxes of this sugar-laden cereal. If it was for donation, so be it, but let’s not kid ourselves.

I’ve never let my children eat this cereal, and I don’t think I’ve purchased a box in years. When I do, it will be certainly be the only box in a one-year period. I think people are simply expressing that *if* this is for your family, and you intend to eat four boxes of this unhealthy food choice prior to its expiration, you perhaps need to re-evaluate your understanding of healthy food choices, especially if made on the part of children.

I must point out though, that “Cheap” is completely wrong in stating that “If the product was that unhealthy then it wouldn’t be sold as food.” There are tons and tons of “food products” that are unhealthy – chips, candy, chocolate bars, pre-packaged foods laden with transfats….it wasn’t all that long ago that people smoked at work and it was commonly accepted. You’re kidding yourself if you think that everything sold in a supermarket is good for you.

There are good cereal choices and poor ones – this is among the latter…and four boxes for one family – well, call a dietary consultant if you don’t think that’s doing damage.

  25. another unsolicited opinion says:

    well put Anon,
Why do you think the manufacturer has to issue coupons and provide the vendor with low prices . And lets keep the advertising vendor in mind, they will still get their margin. They will sell anything for a margin, even it is known as crack for kids.
I love this site and look for the deals everyday just to balance my household budget but I rarely find food deals on the food our family eats.
It would be great to see more food coupons for the healthy options and they are sometimes available by calling th company directly and requesting one. Every 50 cents helps.

  26. Trey says:

    Anon,

I don’t promote unhealthy eating for children but how can anyone judge someone else’s nutritional standards without knowing anything about them. All you guys know is that the OP bought Corn Pops for their children…whoop-de-doo! You don’t know what they feed them otherwise and some might complain that a child getting anything to eat in the morning is beneficial as opposed to the many who go to school hungry. My child is a vegetarian and I get criticized for that despite having done a tonne of research and feeding her the best foods available in order for her to have a well-balanced diet.

What I’m getting at is that you can’t judge someone based upon one box of cereal…seriously it’s just sad.

  27. amandamck says:

To all those complaining please feel free to post “healthy deals” asap instead of spending your time writing books on here. This site is for deals of any kind, get over it!!!

  28. LORI MCCARRON says:

    Well put.

  29. Eric says:

Sure, Corn Pops may not be the healthiest breakfast but how many children do you know will sit there and eat their bowl of Horken-Fiber Chunks, or Oat Bran flakes? I mean, my kids do enjoy Rice Krispies and Cheerios as well, but that usually requires a spoon of sugar sprinkled on it.

4 Jumbo boxes of Corn Pops can last a good while. It’s also good as a little snack sometimes.

The key to remember is one simple word – moderation.

  30. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Wow this post sure got a lot of comments. All I have to say is: I posted this deal for people that are interested in getting a great deal on Corn Pops. Paying $2 instead of $9.49 makes sense to me and I know a lot of people out there feel the same. If you don’t eat Corn Pops, then obviously this post is of no interest to you, and I’m not forcing you to buy it. I don’t understand why people feel the need to attack my cereal choices. Everybody has an opinion but please keep SmartCanucks a positive community, as we don’t tolerate attacks on members.

  31. sharicat88 says:

Corn pops are great. Now try Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Yummy Especially for an evening snack. If you want something healthy skip cereals all together and eat oatmeal or porridge. way better for you and you can add whatever you want for toppings. I will stock up on items that are on sale because who can afford not too.

  32. Sally says:

This thread it cracking me up. I might have to go buy some cornpops and sit and read the novels on here while I eat 😀

  33. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Sally – You can have 1 of the boxes I got. Apparently 4 boxes is excessive for a family of 6!

  34. Anon says:

Everyone does have an opinion, so if someone’s varies from yours, does that make it an attack? I haven’t read a single post above where anyone has outright attacked another member or poster; others have simply commented on the nutritional value of this product and others. Why are those who choose to remind us that there are healthier alternatives (a bag of quick-coooking oats would last as long as cereal for the same price) in the wrong for expressing such?

  35. 7mountains says:

I have never bought corn pops for my kids, however I have bought Quaker Corn Bran Squares, I love those things. Yes, the third ingredient is sugar. I bought 2 of these boxes about 6 months ago, prior to that it was almost 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. Now that is moderation LOL!! I have never put a spoonful of sugar on my childrens cereal, they don’t even know that that would be an option, however when I was a child we had sugar on our Shreddies, Rice Krispies etc. I survived that!! To each his own and thanks for the post. You did a great job of letting us know of a great deal! Happy Monday

    • Justine says:

corn pops are popping, popping in my head.. do do do…..

corn pops in the states aren’t round like the canadian ones, they are more puffs, taste much better.

  36. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Anon – I didn’t specify who was doing the attacking. The fact the you feel that you had to defend yourself must mean that you felt that my message was directed at you. And by the way, I didn’t say that anyone was “in the wrong”. You have formed that conclusion yourself. It was actually sharicat88 that posted about the oatmeal idea, and I definitely agree with her that oatmeal is a much healthier choice. However, this is a post about a good price on cereal, not a debate on healthy eating. That is all I have to say about that.

  37. mnyyoungs says:

WOW…why does the Op thing she/he’s being attacked….this has just become a debate…and the posters stating health and moderation are actually bringing facts to the conversation…this forum has long been used as a site to post opinions, didn’t we just see one about the Olympics Opener…that was recorded as “just” opinions. I love a good debate when it is based on fact and not opinion.

As far as the deal, it’s not a deal if you wouldn’t have bought it anyway. I don’t allow my kids that kind of food, at all. Yes, healthy options and deal would be the best…I go out of my way to ensure myself and my three kids eat whole foods and not processed. By the way, I do this on a budget of less than 300$/month. It is possible and my kids are not overweight, obese or unhealthy in any way, at all. Heck, my job as a parent is to ensure the survival of my offspring and diet is step one.

  38. Sally says:

The OP is a fairly new blogger and didn’t realize that the blog and forum are seperate and different rules etc, no big. Just no name calling or throwing knives and well all be fine 🙂

  39. another unsolicited opinion says:

    the corn is genetically modified

  40. Sally says:

    Death to the cornpop! 😉

  41. denise says:

    Hey thanks for posting!
I pm’d the large boxes of Rice Krispies, used my SPC discount & $2 wub 2 coupons. To top it all off, they had the $10 Hasbro coupons on them! Yippie!

    denise

  42. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

mnyyoungs – If you look at post #7 by “Guest” he/she basically called me a dietary abuser. I would say that name-calling is considered an attack.

  43. Jennie says:

WOW its is Monday everyone, why can’t we all be happy???
Attacking someone, is simply wrong! 🙁
This is a blog on a good deals not on YOUR opinions of nutritional values???

  44. AmberLab says:

Possibly some of the funniest things I’ve read in a while in here. BTW, thanks for posting the deal OP.

Also, Toonies for Tummies seem to be able to be used in Zellers in Ontario, but not other spots like Atlantic Canada. I recall someone posting in the forum about that when TfT first came out.

  45. Angie says:

Toonies for Tummies coupons were accepted at our stores for a while till my manager found out that they wont re-imburse us for the coupon so we were told to not accept them. Im just letting you know about MY zellers, however im sure lots of places still accept them.
I just wanted to let people know just in case 🙂

  46. Jayne300 says:

Lol……I loved the bowl of “Horken-Fibre” comment! Had me laughing right out loud!

Jennie – I think the fact that it IS monday has people a little testy – I know Monday does that to me!

My only thought on 4 boxes of Corn Pops was, I hope ya’ll brush your teeth well afterwards, or else the savings could end up going to the dentist.

  47. tm says:

I’m curious as to why, if one has no interest in purchasing or consuming said pop, one would even be reading this thread period unless to post a negative comment? Power to the pop, thanks for the great deal sleuthing! I hope this doesn’t discourage other posters from posting about deals on so called junk food, because I’m an attractive, slim, healthy female who loves a little junk here and there and really loves hearing about all of these great deals! Thanks, op 🙂

  48. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Jayne300 – No worries, I recently purchased Colgate and Crest toothpaste, Scope mouthwash, and Reach toothbrushes. Got a great price on all of them too I might add. Used coupons of course! Lol!

  49. Holly says:

Oh My. This is too funny. Who knew a post on Corn Pops would bring about such debate? Its cereal for goodness sakes! You weren’t were saying you were feeding your family cyanide or lumps of coal. If so, then I understand a little criticism. Its ncredible really.
I do have two boxes of Corn Pops in my house, and really, I figure if we aren’t eating it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner it really isn’t that big of a deal. Its about moderation people, and really, this site is about good deals, and that is an exceptionally good deal! Thanks for sharing!
    I mean “dietary abuse”…really, seriously?

  50. another unsolicited opinion says:

    I feel like some fruitloops

  51. Insane says:

OMG!! I committed dietary abuse this morning while I sat down and had a nice breakfast with my kid! Someone call child protection…clearly I am an abomination and should never have been allowed to have children! ROTFLMAO
    Great deal OP!! 🙂

  52. mnyyoungs says:

    Sticks and stones, folks.

  53. missbobloblaw says:

I’m eating a HUGE bowl of Corn Pops as I type!!!!
    (yum)
    **nom nom nom**

  54. trucks says:

    I LOVE MY CORNPOPS!

  55. julyprincess says:

Okkkk…ppl seriously need to stop interfering in other ppl’s business and making judgements without even knowing them. You don’t know why the cereal was bought, maybe it was for a recipe, art project, who knows and what does it matter. It was a good deal, PERIOD. And regarding feeding kids ‘sugar’ cereal, relax…I hardly remember what my parents fed me when I was young, and if today I have a sweet tooth, I don’t blame them just because they fed me corn pops all day.

  56. julie.leeds says:

I was never overweight as a child but, I am now.

    IN MY OPINION…

I think it has more to do with “dieting”… “failing”…. “binging” because I am such a loser,… “dieting” because I hate myself, “eating healthily” because its good for me “failing”… because everyone around me eats what they want, and I want to too, and finally trying to meet unrealistic goals.

The first time I went on a diet I was in Gr.9 and I am 5’8 weighed 122lbs and my best friend was in Gr.10 and only weighed 118. even though she was 2” shorter than me I felt like a fat pig and started to diet.

My point is when I was a kid I ate chips and chocolate bars, stacks of cookies, McDonalds, sugary cereals and drank pop…not sugar free pop it hadn’t really been made mainstream yet, Tab was our only option and it was gross!!!

We didn’t know better back then, as long as kids were getting taller and heavier you must have been doing something right!

The only time I had an issue with my weight, was when I made it an issue. I know there is more to being healthy than keeping your weight in a “normal” range.

In my opinion when we start making a big deal about food is when kids take notice and start getting conflicted feelings about food. Inform you kids, teach your kids but give them some part of the responsibility and they will be just fine, even if they ate corn pops for breakfast because it is important to have something, anything for breakfast each day.

  57. Macsfight says:

I have tried to goa nd buy this cereal @ WM and they are not on sale.. Only Raison Bran and Special K ( or corn flakes )
    WTH….??? I am sooo pissed!

  58. Johanna says:

Thanks for the post! anyways if someone does not like this cereal think is gross unhealthy and more do not read the post and dont assume nutricionist positions everybody has the right to choose whatever they want!!

  59. Corbinx says:

I don’t think it’s appropriate to make negative comments about a post because you feel it’s unhealthy. It’s your choice to decide what you and your family will be eating and it’s not up to you to judge someone based on them buying one item. I posted a candy brag a while ago, it certainly doesn’t mean that we eat candy all the time. Often the healthiest things are the ones that don’t go on sale so they aren’t posted. This site is about getting good deals, whatever they may be!

  60. Mamaelmo says:

Wow great deal, just wait I must be comiting dietary abuse too since I bought my 1 child that will only eat Rice Krispsies 2 boxes of Coco Rice Krispies. Wow better call CPS on me LMAO. Do you really think a 10 year old need 2 boxes of cereal for herself. Some people just need to get a life.

  61. mlongboat says:

My daughter had corn pops last week. Is someone gonna call childrens aid? She doesnt get them for breakfast though. SHe gets a few for a snack. SHe likes daddys cereal for a treat. She even gave one to her 18 month old sister!!!!!! Lock me up and throw away the keys:S

  62. Li Sechrist says:

You completed various good points there. I did a search on the theme and found a good number of people will consent with your blog.

  63. Well, that is definitely good, however think about the other alternatives we now have here? Would you brain crafting one more article about them all also? Regards!
