The first Friday of every June marks a very special occasion for pastry lovers around the world, as it is National Doughnut Day. National Doughnut Day is celebrated in many ways at various pastry shops around the world, with some offering creative, new doughnuts, while others (like Krispy Kreme Canada and Dunkin Donuts Canada) will be giving away free doughnuts.
At Dunkin Donuts, you will have to purchase a beverage to receive your free doughnut this Friday, June 5th, while at Krispy Kreme you simply have to show up and request your free doughnut. Both stores will only offer one free doughnut per customer, but there will be several participating locations across the country so you could very well try to hit up a couple of shops that are in your area, if you have the time and the room for more doughnuts!
There have also been reports that if you mention National Doughnut Day at Tim Hortons that you may be eligible to receive a free doughnut as well – but we have only heard of this being possible at their U.S. locations so far. Still, if you find yourself inside a Tim Hortons on Friday it’s worth a mention, as all you have to lose is a free doughnut!

There is always more room for donuts, but sadly there aren’t enough donut shops that are close in proximity
Why isn’t Tim Hortons participating?
Probably because they’re now owned by 3G Capital and their only goal/purpose is to suck every last penny out of a business. Freebies aren’t part of their vocab. In fact it’s likely we’ll see a very reduced roll-up-the-rim promo going forward.
