I wouldn’t say that I’m a lip balm addict, but more of an enthusiast. Since it’s relatively inexpensive, lip balm’s my most purchased cosmetic item. By the way, I’m not much of a makeup person!
When it comes to lip care, I rarely go back to the same product. Instead, I’m fairly non-committal, preferring a rotation of new products. Currently, I have Yes To Carrots’ C Me Smile Lip Butter (Carrot) in my purse.
It does the job, but I’m not too crazy about the scent, so I’ll only use it when I’m out ‘n about. (I purchased it at a Target, in the US, and all products were sealed, so I wasn’t able to do a smell-test beforehand. ๐ ) What I do like about the product is that it’s 95% organic, all natural, and paraben-free.
I also like the fact that it’s a stick formation, so it’s convenient and hygienic for applying on-the-go!
At home, on my nightstand, I have Smith’s Lip Balm (Minted Rose). After reading good reviews, I purchased it on American Apparel online while I was taking advantage of their sales.
As you can see, it’s in an antique-looking tin. So a definite bonus is that I’ll be able to use ALL of the product! However, some people find this method of application ‘dirty’ since you have to dip your finger into it, so for this reason, I only use the Smith’s at home, after ensuring that my hands are clean.
(Although stick lip balms are convenient and relatively clean, I hate it when I’m nearing the tube. I do attempt to dig residual product with my nail, but after a gf shrieked in horror, I stopped…at least when she’s ’round! ๐ )
I also like the minty scent of the Smith’s. Whereas I find flavours such as chocolate, butterscotch, caramel, coffee, etc. absolutely gross!
Whether it’s stick or tin, mint or chocolate (blech!), lip balm is definitely something that I make sure is in my purse come wintertime. So, if you’re a lip balm addict or even enthusiast, what balms do you like?
i usually just take the tin and hold it up to my bottom lip, then rub my lips together….my number one rule about lip balm is to NEVER SHARE
I’m a lip balm addict and my pick is Blistex Lip Medex in the blue pot. I’ve never bought anything else since then.
Aveeno makes the best lip balm. It is one of the few ones that actually moisturizes and protects. Most just protect (Burt’s bees, blistex etc).
B the Balm, all natural products found it at a festival in the beaches, they have great products.
I am a lip balm fanatic, have been since I was a little girl – although then it was Bonne bell. I agree that aveeno is amazing. Also Blistex DCT in the pink tub smells yummy and does a really good job.
I LOVE evolution of smooth lip balm. The sphere shape is so interesting and it smells fantastic.
I also like a lip balm that we give away at work. I don’t know who manufactures it, but it has my company’s name on it. We don’t make products either, so it’s a mystery!
I’m hooked on chapsticks/lip balms – I’ve used probably every brand imaginable, and it took me years to find one I was happy with. Finally settled!!
I use Melaleuca lip balm. Blueberry cheesecake, mountain mint, brandied pear… yummy flavor choices. Totally worth the price – these are the only things that keep my lips soft and nice year round. Living in a place that has more cold days than warm or even hot (maybe 3 days near 30C per year, countless days -30C a year). Absolutely love Melaleuca balms.
I love Palmer’s Cocoa butter formula Swivel Stick ($2 in Texas, but a lot more here). Everyone laughs at me because it’s looks like a glue stick but it’s the best! Some lip balms make my lips worse (like the Delon brand).
I know it shouldn’t be possible but I’m convinced that I am allergic to aveeno lip products. My favourite lip product is actually petroleum jelly but sometimes I’ll treat myself to a cocoa butter lip balm from the body shop. it’s $8 a tube and it only lasts me a few weeks so I tend to only get them 4 or 5 times a year.
My favourite is the Polysporin brand lip balms sold at Shopper’s. It’s the ONLY thing that works on my chapped lips!
I love Blistex Lip Medex. Best value for the money in my books.
L’Occitane’s shea lip balm is not bad either, though it is six times more expensive than Blistex.
Also got Kiehl’s lip balm (for free!) the other day, haven’t it tried it yet though.
My favourite lip balms are Korres Lip Butter, and Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. The Korres Lip Butter smells fantastic, and really does leave your lips moisturized. It’s definitely worth the price!
I have to agree with Catlady…palmer’s cocoa butter formula in the swivel stick is the BEST and believe me, I have tried them all! I have severe chapped, dry lips in the Fall and Winter seasons and this stuff works well to moisturize them and relieve discomfort. Beware of anything that makes your lips tingle! On the more expensive end, MAC lip conditioners also work very well and are a nice splurge.
Nivea…Addicted.
I am definitely an addict. I have one in my coat, two in my purse (at least), one in my gym bag, and a few in my nightstand. I’m a Mary Kay Consultant, so I stick to theirs. I’ve tried Blistex, Burt’s Bees, Aveeno, Chapstik, Soft Lips, etc. I find they are only good while it’s on, not after. The ones with menthol in them tend to chap your lips more, so I try and stay away from those.
I’m very much into the eos lipbalm right now. Its moisturizing without being sticky, and it has a great flavor (honeydew). Its 100% natural. Its in a cute round shape and the large application area makes it super for the lazies, you can apply it to your upper and lower lips all at once.
Body Shop’s lip balm has been my favourite since high school, strawberry is my favourite scent and gives my lips a little colour. It keeps my lips moisturized and protected, the only disadvantage is that I need to use my finger for it which isn’t convenient when I’m out, in that case I’d use Soft Lips (melon being my favourite scent), it’s not the best but I find it not bad as a chapstick. I find Body Shop’s quite expensive, $6/lip balm so I always wait for it to go on sale before buying (there’s buy 3 get 2 free now!). The best deal for Soft Lips is at Walmart in its double pack.
I have a little secret to chapped lips, apply lip balm before going to bed and in the morning after you’ve brushed your teeth & washed your face or at the end of the shower, rub your lips with your fingers to get rid of dead skin and apply lip balm again to keep it smooth.
I probably have about 15 in total; my purse, my jackets, and at work, everywhere.
I get all kinds as gifts all the time. It is the only make-up I wear, (as some have tints). My mom is a health nut, and she always buys me organic. I have never really liked them, I have never liked the smell, nor the way they glide one the lips.
I only have one liquid type, and I love the smell, but I seem to like to lick it off my lips too fast.
Blistex fruit smoothies, and blistex complete moisture are my faves!!! Simple, nice glide, and good smell.
GREAT POST STEPHANIA! The first one I enjoyed. ๐
I was using the Chapstick brand for a long time. I’ve tried all the organic, petroleum-free, honey, beeswax, etc. and I’m definately not a fan of the ‘all-natural’. I recently switched to Blistex Lip Medex and I’m hooked. This one leaves your lips soft, not waxy or greasy like the all-naturals and you can still layer lipstick on top because it’s so smooth.
I’m a big fan of Eco-lips (found at Mountain Equipment Co-op). I use the mint version with SPF 15 exclusively because the flavour and texture after application are fantastic (the berry version is “meh” and the sports is okay but I love the “zing” from the mint).
Another note: I *love* the subtle flavours of Kiehl’s Lip Balms, currently at the end of my Pear one, but I absolutely HATE when it comes to the end of the tube. Hafta squeeze with all my might to get that darn expensive crap out!
Burt’s Bee – I did use one of their Honey flavoured stick lip balms and the scent was GROSS! So naturally, I hated using it and just wanted to finish the darn thing off!
@Cocozzzzzzz – C’mon now, my posts aren’t that bad! ๐ I just think many ppl take them waaay too seriously, as if I’m addressing them personally, and therefore get offended. In all cases, I honestly just want answers to my question!
I’ve been using Blistex Lip Medex (in the blue pot, non-SPF) for over a decade. Nothing even comes close in comparison to how good that works for me.
Tip for tube lip balm if you don’t mind using it only at home. Cut the tube with scissors and “recap” by pinching the bottom half and putting the top part on top. You’ll be amazed at how much extra product there is in there. I did this recently with a small travel size tube of hand cream and got another week’s use out of it!
As for lipbalm, I’ve been using Lush’s Ultrabalm lately and it’s nice. Has a very vaseline feel but no petroleum which is a bonus. However, it doesn’t stay on as long as other brands I’ve tried.
nivea in the lipstick looking thing. and blistex in the blue tin.tins always get things in them or the top comes off..then it gets hair and whatever lint is in my purse..tins suck that way…anyone that uses tins,is there a way to avoid them coming apart and the lid coming off and things getting in there?
My fav is Carmex, it was recommended to me by a co-worker two years ago and have been hooked ever since.
My favorite is definitely softlips!! I got a couple after they were on sale at shoppers(with the $2 coupon they were free!), and I loved them. They make your lips feel so soft and refreshing after you use them.
Love lip balm and will use just about anything. I really like the soft lips right now, but I really like the True Blue from Bath and Body works. I am a self proclaimed lip balm addict. At any time, I have one on my keys, always in my car, in my purse, on my bed stand, I have 2 at work, my husband carries one in his car for me, and I have about 10 spares, just in case. If I don’t have a lip balm on hand, I feel a little panicked. Its a problem….hello, my name is Joline, and I am a lip balm addict!
Burt’s Bee’s, all the way!
I may be a female but I do not wear lip balm. Yuck. It’s so…slimy! And… gross. I just lick my lips to get them wet and I’m good. No cracking, nothing — despite what you’d think, it’s not that bad and doesn’t dry your lips out as terribly as lip chap makers would have you assume.
The rare, maybe once every 3 years, I get “dry” lips (generally from throwing up too much due to medical treatments) I use Burt’s Bees because I’m allergic to everything else on the market.
One time I kissed my partner, not knowing they had Blistex on, and my lips got hive-like bumps. Ick. I hate men and women who wear lip chap all the time — makes kissing thoroughly unpleasant…
“@Cocozzzzzzz – C’mon now, my posts aren’t that bad! ๐ I just think many ppl take them waaay too seriously, as if I’m addressing them personally, and therefore get offended. In all cases, I honestly just want answers to my question!”
Excuse me? Your posts ARE offensive. If you want answers to your judgmental posts, go to Yahoo! Answers or Google.
I’m a total lip balm addict. I really like the old Labello which is now Nivea lip balm-the light blue one. I also use Moisture Therapy and Blistex Lip Med in the blue pot. I generally have them all over the house, coats pockets, car, work, purse!
If I want moisture with shine, I usually have something from Bath & Body works on hand. If I really NEED moisture for sore or chapped lips, I use Lansinoh! (yes, the nipple cream for breastfeeding) Pure lanolin & vertically no taste – a tiny bit goes a long way too. Works awesome on my kids too!
best one out there is one by FISKES…..it is a company that makes hoof oil and lotions and potions for horse but can also be used on humans too….the lip balm is for humans only….obviously….I think their website is http://www.fiskes.ca I love their products and they smell great!
I love the EOS lip ball. It makes my lips so soft, and feel so good…looking for the kiels but can’t find it anywhere near me. Where can you buy it?
I actually use nothing.
Smith’s lip balm or Rosebud is good! I like it very much. I ordered it online from a website that sell them online from the U.S. The price is good, about $4/ each and shipping fee (from US to Canada) is $3-4/3 tins.
You can easily find that website by Google search.
Btw,a question is not related to lip balm topic but I really want to know where can I buy Coty Loose Face Powder in Ottawa? I love this powder, its price and its smell a lot. ๐ Please anyone tell me. Thanks!
@Jen – why are so much hate? first with hating people who wear chapstick (don’t like don’t wear them, don’t hate on others) and secondly by being rude for NO reason to Stephania?
this post was THIS close to not having a word of negativity and you had to come in..
anyway!
On the topic of chapsticks – the little EOS egg lipbalms are pretty awesomesauce! I was very excited to finally find them at my local Pharmaplus. Nivea milk & honey one is also pretty decent but when I get REALLY chapped, I slap on some Vaseline when at home
by the way licking you lips and making them way makes it even worse – especially if it’s winter and/or windy. lips feel like they are on fire
so bad advice there..
@loyal 2 bb – I randomly saw them at my local Rexall Pharmaplus – they are listed on EOS’s website as the retailer
so try there! ๐ I only wish I bought more cos now they don’t have them at my location ๐
@Annie – Sooo random! Why don’t you try contacting Coty directly?:
http://www.coty.com/#/home
I think they’d be the best bet to answer a question about their own product! Please be advised that sometimes the manufacturer know absolutely nothing about where their products are being distributed, but try anyway!
YES, I also heard that licking the lips isn’t the natural solution for moisturising lips. If that actually worked, would these lip balm companies still be in business?
@Funkymunky – My friend, maybe I’m being an el cheapo here, but I just saw that EOS are available at Giant Tiger. Do you think it would be CHEAPER there as opposed to SDM, PharmaPlus, Chapters, etc.?
I’ve been in search of a good, smooth gliding natural lip balm for quite some time. Like others have mentioned, the natural products can be waxy feeling. the best I’ve come across so far is Dr. Bronner’s Magic organic lip balm. Glides on super smooth, very moisturizing and the Orange/Ginger is not overpowering in smell. I hate waxy/sticky chapstick, so this one I definitely like.
I refuse to use anything but Burt’s Bees
I will only use Burt’s Bees and if I happen to lose it I run right out to buy another
Blistex Herbal Answer has it all. Smells great, tastes great, lasts a long time on the lips without being greasy or sticky, and super affordable. It is my absolute favorite. I LOVE IT. I NEED IT. YOU SHOULD GET IT. ๐
@annie – I can highly recommend the N.Y.C. loose face powder available at Walmart- very inexpensive (less than $3) and a very good product.
noone said anything about bath and body works tubes of gloss! I love the menthol ones, soooo tingly and fresh. i honestly feel like i have the right to project a sexy fresh attitude with the boys. hee hee
Here in southern Alberta the air is so dry in winter even the little kids walk around with a tube of lip chap. My own poor, little four year old has licked his lips so much that the skin around them is all red and chapped.
Anyway, when my lips are actually chapped I use the potted Carmex exclusively. Otherwise I just put it on before bed and use something more fun during the day. I quite like the ELF tinted balms; I forget what they are called specifically but they come in a little square pot. They smell divine and colour like a gloss but feel like a balm. Perfect!
We bought several multi-packs of Costco Kirkland brand and they’ve been pretty good! My favourite used to be Mentholatum Natural Ice but haven’t found that anywhere lately. Got a freebie Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick and it’s mighty fine! Our family of 4 all uses them and we keep them everywhere too! Great post. I needed more and tried looking on well.ca to order more and got pretty overwhelmed with the variety but not knowing which would be sticky, stinky, or waxy, decided not to spend the $4-$8/stick. Thanks to this post I’ll leap in and order a few! Thanks.
I love my Jack Black Lip Balm in Lemon chamomile from Sephora, absolutely amazing, turns my dehydrated lips back to life and smells nice.Highly recommended.
I also have EOS in summer fruit, which I love as well. Softlips is very good as well, that i picked up in Dollarama.
I’m always buying my daughter Lipsmackers Vanilla which she really likes, but she has to learn to hide it because her little chinese crested dog eats it!
@FunkyMonkey
I think you misread my post, I just hate the people I date who wear them when I kiss them.
Say you’re allergic to peanuts. Someone eats them, then kisses you. Wouldn’t that piss you off? ๐
I’ve been ordering emu lip balm (from http://www.silkysgarden.com) from the States because it’s a good price and it’s all natural. I find that it works really well.
