As I’m sure many of you have already noticed, Loblaws Canada and Loblaws banner stores have now done away with the 50% off stickers on expiring items, and are now offering just 30% off these items. Last day of sale items were typically reduced by 30-50%, but you will no longer be seeing 50% off.

I noticed this discount reduction prior to Christmas at Fortinos, another Loblaws banner. At Fortinos prices, reduced meat at 30% off is still higher than prices for fresh meat at other retailers when on sale, so I will no longer be purchasing their reduced meat at only 30% off. I will be stocking up more often when meat is a good sale price elsewhere. Loblaws claims that they will continue to offer deep discounts on expiring food through the Flashfood app, however, Fortinos is a a banner that is currently not on Flashfood.

You might have also noticed that the value of your personal PC Optimum offers have dropped. Most offers were for 20% back in points, for example, 200 points for every $1 spent on apples. This offer would now be for 100 points per dollar spent on apples, which is a mere 10%.
