Grrr, of course, no locations in Fredericton… maybe I need to steal a bus 😛

  2. Deb says:

Is anyone & everyone free, that gets in…or is this a buy one get one free deal???

  3. di says:

It clearly says that it’s free with proof of Canadian citizenship.

  4. Nav says:

Is there a Mandrin in Ottawa?

  5. Tammy says:

I wonder how crazy busy it will be.

  6. hm says:

i think they’ve done this before.. hours of lineup. it’s very nice of them though.

  7. mlongboat says:

OMG!!!! It’s gonna be a Zoo!!!

  8. Joel says:

I went in 1999 or 2000 and the linup was about 2 hours in Burlington.

  9. Fab says:

That place is normally packed…. Wonder if people will begin to line up the night before! It is a great deal, but will be insane!

  10. Meridith says:

Dang, I only have Permanent Residency. My 1 year old was born here, though. Maybe he can sneak me an egg roll or something.

  11. BeeBee says:

I cost 3 hrs for waiting with your kids, so what do you think?

  12. BeeBee says:

It cost 3 hrs for waiting with your kids, so what do you think?

  13. Sallycat says:

We attended this promotion a few years ago. Everything was very organized. They came out to check that everyone in line had their proper ID. Waited about 3-4 hours.

  14. Sally says:

Gosh I couldn’t imagine waiting this long in line, esp with kids. I think by the time I got in i’d be so stressed I’d want to pass out.

  15. Sallycat says:

The wait is not so bad when you take breaks. As long as you leave some members of your party in line you can take short breaks to get a drink or just to take a walk. Take along a good book or plan some activities to keep the kids busy.

  16. JSAM_S Mom says:

There’s no way you’ll find me there! I’ll be playing in the park, walking on the beach and having a picnic with my son instead of baking in the sun, in line with little to do for 3-4 hours. I hope those who do go enjoy themselves, though! 🙂

  17. John says:

    It’s so nice!

Never heard of a free meal!

Thanks a lot, generous owner of the restaurant.

  18. Ryan says:

Great idea, very nice of them, but in the city with such crazy lineups how is saving 18$ worth a 3-4hr line up? Work an extra hour or 2 instead(if you have the option) and just go on a different day.

  19. Bella says:

    Dear Mr. Chiu and Mr. Chang;

That was very kind of you to invite all canadians to your restaurant!! I wish that there are more people like you whose gratitute to this beautiful country of ours can extend their thanks to all canadians!! Many thanks again and god bless you!

  20. Bigal says:

    Only in Ontario? Pity.

  21. Jane says:

    Ryan,
Easier said than done. How many of us can tell the boss, hey let me work an extra 3 hours? Most us have timed schedules and it’s not up to us to decide when to get in to work buddy. Besides, it’s a holiday. If you have better things to do then go ahead and not go. One less person! But I have a feeling you’ll be there!

  22. Jane says:

I was born in Canada and only have a birth certificate, can I use only that or do they need any more id?

  23. Sallycat says:

    Jane…your birth certificate is fine.
They only need one ID per person.

  24. Martin says:

they’re probably not going to care who you are as long as you flash your birth certificate then your good to go.. they’re most likely not going to even read what’s on it.

  25. Steve says:

    Is a birth registration acceptable?

  26. Mac says:

This seems to good to be true
every ones gonna get a croissant 2 chicken balls and a fortune cookie, and there gettin sent home. Not speaking from experience here but the menu will def be limited

  27. Glen says:

Actually the Mandarin expects to go through 50,000 chicken balls…

  28. Miss Sally says:

I’m just gonna sit home and cook a t bone.

  29. Scott says:

i just went and it was the longest line ive ever seen in my life it went all around the plaza onto the street and down the street it looks like a 6hour wait i just dipped hell no im not waiting in that some people have no life and are just fat

  30. jellian says:

this thing is crazy im juss goin 2 cook chicken n my house n relax than lining up!!!!!!!!!!

  31. cookoo says:

i don’t think i would be able to enjoy the meal if i had to wait THAT long to get in.

  32. spomenka says:

    Just called them
They said it FULL buffet style like normal
Bring photo id and ur birth certificate or citizenship card

  33. Sallycat says:

Just got back. The food was as superb as usual. Wait was just over 3 hours but definitely worth it. They were very organized and were only letting people in as people left. Inside atmosphere was quiet and comfortable…There were no big crowds or line-ups inside. We will definitely be back next time!

  34. JeLLo says:

I saw on CP24 that there was some mayhem at one of them….police and everything…the people in line sure showed that Canada is a diverse place to live……

  35. catjean says:

Went there today. 3 1/2 hour wait. Kinda long, but it was sort of fun. Chatted with people in line, took breaks. It wasn’t too hot or didn’t rain so it wasn’t bad. Don’t know if I’d do it again, but it was interesting to see if I could endure it. They were very organized and surprisingly the restuarant was half empty and calm, I guess they don’t let more people come in than they can handle.

  36. spomenka says:

It was a 2 hr wait was worth it for me

  37. Amber says:

4.5 hour wait for me, but it wasn’t that bad in retrospect. Wonderful food, though.

  38. hkkcl says:

I was there yesterday in Brampton Location, worth to wait for 6 hours for the good food, thank you Mandarin!!!!!

  39. hkkcl says:

Even on regular weekend I need to wait for an hour for the table and pay the full price, why not to wait for 6 hours for the free buffet?? Thank you Mandarin!!!!!

  40. hkkcl says:

amazingly they even have crab legs on the buffet table, how can they be so generous?

  41. Mark Norris says:

I started to wait in Mississauga but gave up after 1 hr, line was ridiculous.

  42. Mark says:

Save your money and go on another day. You have to be crazy to stand in line and wait hours for a free meal. People are insane for doing this, go get a hobby!!

  43. lyssa says:

we waited for 4 hours and stuffed our faces it wass sooo good my boyfriend and i felt sick after because of starvation all day waiting. they gave us water which was cool it was extremely well organized, the food was great and the service was amazing i wasn’t even done my drink (pop) and i had another one in fron of me

  44. HJM says:

I can’t believe some of you would actually wait for hours in a lineup just for Free food!! What a bunch of cheapos!! It would have been nice if no cheap people went out and people who really couldn’t afford to go out to eat would have been able to go and enjoy a decent meal with their families. Shame on all of you cheap asses! Saving money is great, but come on!! There are so many people out there who actually are starving, lost their jobs and are in NEED and all you cheapskates ruined it for them. SHAME!!!!

  45. urouj says:

hey it was canada day, it was 142nd birthday of Canada, lets be nice!

  46. LYLE says:

Yes, I agree with HJM. Too bad all the cheapos lined up, it would have done a lot of families in need a lot of good to have a nice free meal. Some things just shouldn’t be taken advantage of by some people.

PS – I hope the cheapos tipped their servers properly! Their poor staff probably ran their butts off for less than 15%-20% 🙁

  47. layniejoy says:

Everyone who is knocking people who went to this event are crazy!!! Someone is offering something for free, and you think you have the right to judge someone because they taken advantage of it? Shame on YOU for being so judgemental! If Mandarin was concerned about only giving food to needy families, they would have requested that you bring your welfare check. I personally work over 50 hours a week and feel it’s ludicrous that people think because I’m not unemployed I should feel bad about myself for taking advantage of this! (By the way, I wasn’t able to because I worked 12 hours that day, but still!)

  48. Lillian says:

I love free stuff, but kudos to those who waited in line for hours. You’ll have to lend me some patience.

I get bored after 30 min if I don’t keep myself occupied. Waiting in line for more than an hour (even for something as good as chinese food) would have driven me NUTS.

  49. Sallycat says:

I agree with layniejoy. How can one decide to judge everyone who was in line that day? There might have been some needy people in line. We don’t know. There is no shame in accepting a gift from a generous owner of a restaurant. When you accept a gift from someone does that make you cheap? It is not like those people were lining up at the food bank and taking food which was intended for the needy.

  50. Jane E says:

Here Here! I agree with Sally and Joy. A lot of whiners about better spending their time elsewhere, picking pennies on a beach, or whatever, making themselves sound above everyone else who went (personally I did not only because I had something else to do). Seriously, if they’re so “better than thou” they wouldn’t be lurking on this cheapie site looking for deals either. They’re better off picking pennies on the beach. If you don’t want to go, don’t and shut your mouth.

  51. ed says:

I’m amazed that Mandarin could offer so much food for free at all their locations!! That is a LOT of food! My fear during these kinds of promotions is that the food quality might not be the best because they’re giving so much away for free. Still hope those of you that got in enjoyed it and didn’t regret it the next day. I plan on going tomorrow… all this Mandarin talk is making me crave it now 🙂

  52. lilTO says:

I’d rather go to those chinese fast food places, than to wait hours in line. There are lots of them in the little chinatowns around GTA e.g. agincourt, markham and you get enough food to fill yourself with for $5. Standing in line doesn’t sound like the best use of your time if you work. Time is precious. Food is just food.

But I agree…it’s very nice of the owners to offer.

  53. Sallycat says:

From what I saw, people were not just standing in line. Most had brought their lawn chairs and were enjoying their time with their families/friends. Some were playing cards/board games. It was like a picnic without the food. Of course the food came later once they got inside. The weather was perfect and the people who were prepared for the wait were actually having fun.

  54. Steve says:

4 hour wait to save $20 a person. Thats saying your time is worth $5.00 dollars an hour… Pennywise pound foolish haha

  55. Flo & Clark says:

The best selection of good food in a restaurant, Way to go Mandarin
