Newegg Canada Launches Today @ Newegg.ca

Newegg Canada Newegg.ca

Newegg is an online computer hardware and software retailer based in California. Newegg sell products at ridiculously low prices. Unfortunately, Newegg.com has only catered to US customers; that is until today! Sometime today Newegg.ca will be launched.

Visit Newegg.ca for the pre-launch contest and keep your eyes opens for what I’m guessing will be sizzling hot launch deals.

Hopefully Newegg.ca will force some of the Canadian computer hardware retailers to lower their prices a bit and let loose of that monopoly. We’ll see how Newegg.ca will manage shipping and duties. Only time will tell.

    Awesome, I used to buy lots of stuff form them when I lived in the states, although now I buy a lot from canadacomputers.com and tigerdirect.ca

  2. Boo Newegg! I’ll be sticking with NCIX, thankyouveyrmuch. At least they’re Canadian owned. (And so close to me that every shipment comes within a day.)

  3. NCIX Fan says:

    Newegg doesn’t state where they are shippng from in Canada. Also they’ll be using UPS, almost the worst courier company in the owrld, caouldn’t even deliver me a package once, and if they ship from California then there are brokerage fees from UPS.
    I’ll stick with NCIX.com, I used to deal with Anitec until they ripped me off and scammed me on extra taxes.
    I would like to know what city in Canada if in Canada that they ship from before I purchase.

    Here is my review of Newegg.

    The site is pretty much the same as the US website, which is a good thing because the US site is quite easy to get around, and the product catalog is quite extensive with a vast selection of computer parts and electronics, but the positive end here. All I can say they have a lot of work to do if they ever want to make a serious splash in the Canadian market.

    Here are the reasons why:

    1. Ontario residents have to pay the 8% PST in addition to the GST (with NCIX only the GST is charged).

    2. All items are shipped from the US via UPS. Anyone who has been burned by the insane brokrage fees they charge know this is a real BAD idea. Tigerdirect.ca does the same thing and also uses UPS but they take care of all the brokerage.Another thing I noticed is that if the item is defective YOU are responsible for the shipping costs to return the item, whereas Tigerdirect.ca will in most cases reimburse those fees. And the shipping costs are ridiculous for small items such as USB flash drives and memory cards.

    3. Many of the items can be found on competing Canadian online retailers for about the same price or less.

    4. No price matching policy.

    5. Grand Opening specials are horrific even compared to the weekely specials at NCIX and Direct Canada. For example Newegg.ca has an Evga Geforce GTX 280 for $466 plus a $40 mail in rebate. NCIX has that same card for $449 plus the same $40 rebate. Memory Express also has it for a lower price than Newegg.And I’m sorry Newegg, a $259 22″ LCD monitor, or a $170 HD4850 is not going to impress Canadian consumers.

    I don’t think Direct Canada, Memory Express, Canada Computers, NCIX, etc have much to worry about right now.

    Brad Bruzzese is mostly right, but i found a few things that make me glad there’s another hardware company has stepped in the ring.

    Check it out:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHZ
    tigerdirect : $353.99
    ncix: $230.28
    newegg: $201.49

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHZ

    tigerdirect : $353.99
    NCIX: $324.99
    newegg: 286.49

    EVGA NVDIA GTX 260 896MB

    tigerdirect : 345.99 After $20 mail in rebate
    NCIX: $294.86 After $20 Mail in rebate
    newegg:$246.17 after 40 mail in rebate

    This was just for a sample. Tigerdirect is especially shameless in it’s price gouging. WTF is it with charging the same absurd price for the 8500 and the 8600, this despite the price reduction by intel TWO AND A HALF MONTHS AGO.

    Hopefully some good old fashioned capitalism will help the canadian consumer in the end.

    And here we go — NewEgg.ca is live! Their launch promotion is $10 off orders of $49.99 or more for their first 4000 customers (use coupon code CANGRANDOP)! Here are some of the deals we’ve spotted so far:

    * Panasonic DMC-TZ4S Silver 8.1 MP Wide Angle Digital Camera w/ 2GB SD Memory Card & Camera Case – $211.91
    * AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor – Retail – $127.38
    * Creative ZEN 2.5″ Black 16GB MP3 / MP4 Player – $170.00
    * SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card – Retail – $169.98

    All costs including shipping, taxes, and duties will be listed at the checkout screen, so there won’t be any surprises when the items arrive at your door.

    NewEgg is the second largest online-only retailer in the United States, and their presence in Canada is a welcome one. With an extensive product selection and highly vaunted customer service, here’s hoping that Canadians can enjoy the presence of another large computers and electronics retailer.

  7. Brad Bruzzese says:

    That’s a relief there won’t be any additional brokerage fees outside of shipping, that makes things a bit more attractive. Also they have a Canadian forum at EggXpert.com where the moderators seem to be listening to the people concerns. They have potential, they just have some things to work on. I agree with you Rodric, that Tigerdirect have the worst prices for many items. I was shopping for a GTX 260 and Tigerdirect listed the model I wanted for $390, which was about $75 or more than the competitors (including Future Shop) .

  8. newegg.ca says:

    As an unbiased long time customer of newegg.ca I can tell you that we.. I mean they are the best for lowest prices and customer service. I will never shop anywhere else.

  9. Sally says:

    Unbiased? LOL!!!

    I’ll go check it out!

  10. Intrepix says:

    Newegg is yet but one more company who has been duped into using UPS Ground and then hides the brokerage and added UPS COD fee as “handling costs”. UPS has been gouging Canadians for years and in spite of the long list of complaints, they soldier right on taking Newegg consumers for another ride down the same old UPS price gouging road. I have sent Newegg an email with my concerns regarding their shipping which puts it in perspective. If I’m paying for the shipping, then I should be able to tell them who I want it shipped with but since they won’t offer another shipper, my choice is easy I won’t buy anything for them to ship.

  11. Newegg says:
