Canada Day 2017 is going to be quite the celebration, especially for the 76 grocery stores across Ontario that will be authorized to sell beer and cider starting on June 30. The 76 latest independent and larger grocery stores that are now licensed to sell these alcoholic delights are joining a list of 130 other grocery stores in the province that can sell beer and cider, bringing the provincial total to 206. There are also 70 stores that sell wine.

Beer at the Grocery stores along with bread and Marijuana at Shoppers Drug mart. This is going to be priceless how this unfolds, lets all say ‘hands up’. Except Beer store workers got paid more, Grocery Store workers get part-time low wages, and are always fighting for hours; considering a good portion of jobs in Canada are only retail. Landing a Job in a Grocery store is going to get more difficult.
Then again, the Liberals just did was the Conservatives always wanted to do; either way it was going down this route any way you looked at it.
I don’t understand the Walmart Superstore in Stoney Creek getting beer sales (unless many shoppers come off the QEW Niagara and want beer without driving further south to Eastgate Square) when that route is only serviced by bus every 30min during 10-6 weekdays except when the bus service increases during June & summer for Confederation Park runs. The LCBO store south of the Walmart at Eastgate Square is better serviced by buses and has parking for cars and there is a Beer Store nearby as well.
I’m sort of questioning the Hamilton Mountain FreshCo having beer sales when the Food Basics store at UpperWentworth and Rymal a few minutes away by car or bus is already selling beer 6pks (no refrigerated beer just the packs).
What is the status of the LCBO store workers strike vote? Does anyone know?
