Forum member foo brought up an interesting discussion on the forums which I thought I would share here for more input.
What do you think of the new trend of store flyers advertising meat at a per pack price (as shown for the steaks & pork chops pictured above) rather than the usual measurements by weight (as shown with the tilapia above). The set price packs usually do have a weight on them in store, but when comparison shopping and making your list, you have no idea on an approximate weight for the items. They could be cut very thinly or thickly, the size of the packaging can differ by store (and even by week).
As I mentioned in the forum thread, I was part of a focus group where some people did actually recommend clearer pricing on meat. They would see a roast on sale for $3.99/lb but nothing showed that the cut was available in 5lb+ only so they would go to that store and end up not buying the item as it cost much more than they budgeted.
A simple solution to appease both groups would be to price it per package and include an approximate package weight. Similar to when you buy a 3lb bag of oranges and it could vary a little. Since grocery stores have chosen not to do this, do you think it is an attempt by them to stop customers from being able to fully compare pricing and price-matching (you can’t prove the weight so stores would not price match as they have no per lb/kg price to compare).

While this is not one of the deals we typically post on SmartCanucks, I know many SCers volunteer for charitable groups so I thought I would share this with those members.
I work for a non profit, and we have used TechSoup for a couple of years for legal software that we really wanted but could not afford. Having full versions of expensive software has helped us as a group to appear more professional than when using free versions with watermarks/advertising etc while remaining on the legal side of using these programs.
You need to register your group with them and send proof of eligibility and they will give you a list of software you are eligible to receive for just an administrative fee. The type of software depends greatly on what kind of group you are and your annual budget etc as some software partners restrict donations to their philanthropic aims.

While we all love to make the most of our coupons and rebates to save, mail in rebates have specific requirements that mean that using multiple rebates for free points on 20x day at Shoppers Drug Mart or towards spend $60 for Checkout 51 may not work out so well for you.
We often get asked on the forums about how to split up rebates after the user has bought several items on one receipt and the simple fact is that most rebates will require the original receipt. You can use the receipt for Checkout 51 and then mail it off for a single rebate, but likely not multiple mailed rebates (unless they specify you can use a copy, which is rare) or risk not getting your rebate.
The best thing to do is to use just one mailed rebate per promotion, it can help bring down your out of pocket expense for a promotion and you are more likely to actually get paid for all of your rebates. Returning items you bought on 20x day to get separate receipts may bring you below the spend threshold and you will lose the points you earned on that transaction (on a side note, you also lose any item bonus points attached to the sale).
