One of the things I love doing is making bread. The wonders of bread-making never cease to amaze me. Granted, it does take some time and patience but the end result is more than worth the effort.

Without further ado, here is the recipe:

Homemade Bread

1½ cups warm water

1 tbsp active dry yeast

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp vegetable oil

2 tsp salt

3½ – 4 cups flour

 

• In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in the warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
• Add in 1-2 cups of the flour along with the oil and salt. Mix and keep adding in the remaining flour in ½ cup increments until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes on a floured surface until it is soft and elastic.
• Put the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately an hour until it has doubled in volume.
• Deflate the dough and shape it into two loaves. Place them at least 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise again in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes until it has doubled in size.
• Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

If you’re like me you’ll be happy to know Real Canadian Superstore has extended their Price Promise here in Ontario. No details as to when it is ending but my fingers are crossed that they’ll make it permanent.

I’d have to say I like price matching best at No Frills but our store is fairly small and that limits selection. Before the Price Promise if No Frills didn’t carry something I needed to price match, I used to end up going way out in the boonies to Walmart. Most of the time the shelves were cleared by the time I got there. Last month I loved going in to the Superstore  during one of their tax-free weekends or on Tuesday and using the Price Promise along with 10% student discount.

Here’s a new movie event to check out.  Until January 22, Amazon has select Blu Ray movies on for up to 50% off (they have lots of titles on sale for even more than that!)  For example, The King’s Speech on Blu Ray is on sale for only $7.  It’s a savings of 82% with the regular price being $39.99.  It was the winner of the Best Picture Oscar last year.  If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend seeing it.  It was a really great movie and this price is almost cheaper than renting.  Of course, to get free shipping you have to spend at least $25.
