We just finished preparing the cutest baby contest gifts. Initially we had one large gift for the winner only but then we decided to have 5 nice little gifts instead. How many organ transplants are done in Canada each year?
In 2003, there were 1,794 single organ transplants in Canada. For purposes of reporting, this number includes 2 heart-lung transplants. An additional 49 combination transplants were done which included 38 kidney-pancreas and 5 kidney-liver transplants.

How many people are waiting for a transplant?
As of December 31, 2004, there were 4,004 people waiting for an organ transplant. Of these patients, 72% were waiting for a kidney transplant followed by 17% waiting for a liver transplant. This does not include 50 patients who were waiting for an islet cell transplant.
