‘Just Yell Fire’ Empowering Girls to Protect Themselves

Just Yell Fire

Just Yell Fire is a freely distributed film aimed at teaching young girls to defend themselves against attackers. Started as a school project by Dallas Jessup and Catherine Wehage, freshmen at St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, Oregon, the project grew to include the celebrity endorsement of Josh Holloway and Evangeline Lilly of the television show Lost.

The video teaches viewers weak points on an attacker’s body and how to effectively cause enough pain to those points to escape. It also tells viewers how to avoid becoming a target for rape and kidnapping to begin with.

Just Yell Fire is free for any teen girl either as a free DVD or download from the website.

AOL Canada Satellite Radio: Free & No Commercials

I got an email from Michelle H. who represents AOL Canada. They are launching a new Canadian satellite radio service at no cost. She wants to get our feedback about this service. If you have any suggestions or ideas about it please leave a comment below for Michelle to read. Here is what she said in her email:

So we haven’t officially announced this yet, but I wanted to let you (and your readers) know about the new AOL Radio on aol.ca/radio –check this out… 170+ stations (everything from Indie to TV Tunes to Awesome 80s), no commercials (– ever!), CD-quality sound, streaming 24/7/365, always, always free. This is a Canadian exclusive – in the U.S., you have to pay to get full access to AOL Radio. You can check it out by going to aol.ca/radio (make sure you go to .ca to get the Canadian version).

We’d looove to get your feedback –what do you like? What do you want to see more of? etc.. AOL will be adding new stations all the time, and we’ll be paying close attention to feedback from online communities like SmartCanucks for ideas.

Michelle, I wonder how AOL will make any profit if this service is free and has no commercials?

New Feature: Shopping Events Calendar

Announcements

I added a cute little feature to the blog. If you look at the right sidebar you’ll see a calendar. Move your mouse over a specific day and you get a list of deals and events for that day. Below the calendar is also a list of upcoming events. Sometimes I post about sale events a few days in advance and it’s hard to remember when things are happening. This way, you can easily know what’s going on and when 🙂

That being said, not every post I make is on the calendar: freebies, ongoing deals (without a known expiry), and anything without a clear timeline will not be there.
