Best Buy currently has the limited edition PlayStation 2 Sing Star Console Bundle (white) for $129.99.
The bundle consists of:
- Ceramic white PlayStation 2
- White Dualshock 2 controller
- SingStar POP
- 2 USB Microphones
Sure the PlayStation 2 has been around for about 8 years now, but if you don’t have one and you’re into karaoke this bundle is definetely worth it. The Singstar pop package alone costs $59.99. This means that you’re actually only paying $70 for the Playstation 2 which is an awesome deal for a legendary console.
Not to mention that modding a Playstation 2 has become a piece of cake and doesn’t even void the Playstation’s warranty or require any hardware changes.

I’m a computer engineer and I actually enjoy video game development. I used Ogre 3D to develop simple video games just for fun and last term I enrolled in a video game development course at the graduate level.
However, I find the prices of software to be extravagant and very little of the profit goes back to the actual Software developers. A program like Adobe Photoshop alone costs over $1000. Until prices become more reasonable there isn’t much we can really do.
I would like to add, that in case there is no Best Buy store in your area, EB games has that white ps2 bundle for 149.99 and they will also give you the game “Boogie” for free with that bundle. “Boogie” is worth 20$
Also worth noting that the sing star microphones will only work with sing star games, they won`t work with the karaoke revolution serie…fortunatly, the game “Boogie” has a logitech microphone included which is compatible with the karaoke revolution games.

Certainly the small amount that goes back to the developers is indeed very small, but pirating only makes it worse.
I don’t see a need for Piracy on the the PS2 where there’s a huge software library of quality titles that can be bought new for $20-$40.
Take the time to research your purchases, find a good deal on them, and then buy them. You’ll be helping the developers and you’ll get more enjoyment from the games then you would if you just downloaded illegal images off the net.
As for $1000 Photoshop, well that’s a price for commercial use, there are cheaper versions for home use.
