I hope Westjet jumps on board.
Looks like Air Canada is doing something similar: http://www.aircanada.com

WestJet and Air Canada both have a similar deal to select cities.

I routinely travel between Toronto and Halifax (sometimes multiple times each month)and up until the mid point of this year I was primarily using Porter because of their lower fares. But now it seems both Air Canada and WestJet have been beating them on that front for the past several months. When you combine the lower cost plus the shorter flight time (due to direct flights with faster aircraft), and in flight entertainment the choice for me is simple… especially if I’m traveling with my two young children.

I’d love to support the little guy but in this case my budget and my busy schedule have priority.

So after seeing this post I had to test out the offers. I entered the exact same trip on both air canada’s and porter airlines sites and guess what porter win’s hands down. The taxes and fees were way less. The actual price was slightly higher(89 vs 75), but in the end the trip(Ottawa to Timmins return on the same dates) would cost me 522.62 on Air Canada and 301.98 on Porter and the flights took about the same time (give or take 20 minutes). Porter it is for me. Thats a pretty big difference in price.

    @ summernight19

I’m not sure what dates you’re using but I tried your trip during the final week of the promotion for a 7 day stay as we all know the prices go up as the date approaches, and in the months leading up to it there will most likely be another promotion similar to this.

In your case (Ottawa to Timmins return) Porter comes in at $301 as you said, however Air Canada is $261. You’re correct that there’s not much of a difference in travel time as both airlines have connecting stops in Toronto. For my trip to Halifax the difference in travel time is around 2 hours each way so it adds up.

    Happy deal hunting.
