The plans are out! Five days after the predicted date, nonetheless they’re now available.
Rogers and Fido have released their unlimited mobile browsing plans for $7 per month which is an impressive price for that service.
HOWEVER there is a catch and a very disappointing one! You can only browse on locked Rogers cell phones. This plan includes unlimited on-device mobile browsing only. Plan is available on select phones only (PDAs such as Blackberry or Windows Mobile devices, PC cards and non-Rogers certified devices are not eligible).
By enforcing this rule, you can’t use your unlimited browsing plan to run Skype or Video stream which ruins the beauty of an unlimited plan. That’s why this is strictly called “Unlimited Mobile Browsing Plan” and not “Unlimited data plan”.

the same plan is available from bell but only for the htc touch. no streaming sucks but still for $7 thats pretty awesome!
I talked with a rep at length about what is accessible and what isn’t
Basically you can surf WAP websites, thats it.
He broke it down to basics for me too.
If you use GOAM.com as your access point then you’re gold, you can use the ‘unlimited’ internet to surf the old school Wap websites.
if you use Internet.com as your access point then you and me are out of luck.
I asked the fella.. so you have phones that are designed to surf the web but you offer the some of the highest priced data plans in the world. AND you feel that offering users unlimited browsing of an older technology based “internet” is a good marketing idea?
he said he didn’t know.
So thanks again rogers, bang up job on being up to date. That is if the date was 1999.
oh. PS. WHERE IS MY IPHONE
theMopie
Thinking up upgrading to a RAZR2. I have the original Fido plan for years now and I have to renew it for 2 more years before I lose it. The plan is gold now and people offer to but it off me.
Thanks for the clarification on the data plan.
In regards to the Iphone I was given information that Rogers wont pay for the licensing and other things for Canada so it may be a while before we get them here.
Canada is probably bottom of the list for mobile networks.
Don’t even bother with a stupid i-phone. Sure the screen
graphics are good but the actual phone technology is years
behind the rest of the world.
Over in Europe you can get mobile data at 3.6mb/sec flat-rate
for only $20 a month.
Mike.
I like the part when I went to the States, bought an unlocked BlackBerry 8320 with WiFi and surf the net that way. Screw you to both Rogers and Fido.
