The Federal Government has renewed the ecoEnergy Retrofit Home Program until March 31 2012. This program offers financial assistance to encourage home owners to make energy efficient up grades on their homes. You can receive up to $5000 in retrofit grants. We have a few things we need done to our 1970`s raised ranch!

I took advantage of this program last year (and squeezed in under the previous deadline — before they’d announced the extension). Even though our house is only 7 years old, I replaced all the toilets with dual flush and did a few other minor upgrades (better insulation sealing around windows/doors and wall outlets on exterior walls) and with the municipal, provincial and federal rebates, I got enough back to completely cover the cost of the pre & post evaluations + the cost of the 3 toilets, which will now save me on my water bill! It was win-win!
Anybody who has an older house that needs stuff done, take full advantage because it’s a great program.
Looks into your own provincial programs too. I redeemed under federal and provincial and got a LOT of money back.
We did major upgrades then got substantial cheques from the provincial and federal government last year.
It was a wonderful program but note: Rona was not involved in any way whatsoever. In fact it was more cost effective for us to drive to the next town for our building supplies.
Rona’s prices are overinflated on everything by at least 20% and customer service is non-existent. For years their big sales involve giving 10% off and/or extra air miles. That’s still overpriced by 10% and oh boy, air miles!
Now, remaining non-competitive Rona rides on the coat-tails of a provincial grant program.
Yes, it’s a great program so sign up at the government site.
Purchase all your supplies anywhere but Rona!
Last year, that’s how we happily enjoyed a toasty warm and energy efficient home and that’s how we saved thousands of dollars !!! No thanks to or need for Rona!
