Safeway Canada’s Sweet AirMiles Deal April 22-28

Robert D. Gibb is posting a stunning series of articles on Air Miles on the forum. I found the series very useful and enlightening so I’m posting it on the blog as well.

This is a good week for the AirMile Deals

1. Buy 5 Get 50 AM House Brands

Remember: This promo lasts 2 weeks with most house brands also on sale in the first week only. I’ve looked at a few showing reg price followed by sale price (and % off in brackets for exceptional items):

Safeway Select Water 24s 5.99/4.99 (16.7%)
SS 12 Roll Paper Towel 16.49/12.99 (21.2%)
SS Diapers 28.99/26.99
Shower Cleaner 3.76/2.72 (27.7%)
Hand Lotion 525ml 3.99/3.44
Peanuts 2kg 8.95/7.49 (16.3%)
Popcorn kernels 1.81 kg 4.49/3.99
SS Pizza 800g 7.99/6.99 (12.5%)
Perogies 3.59/3.00 (16.4%)
Waffles 16s 4.36/3,50 (19.7%)
Tomato Clam Juice 3.79/3.19 (15.8%)
SS Coffee Beans 300g 7.59/5.99 (21.1%) Note: The Shopping Bags recently did a blind taste taste with SS outperforming Starbucks. Yes, there is a man who watches the Bags!
Iced Tea Mix 1kg 5.34/3.99 (25.2%)

2. Week 4 (of 4) of the Spring AirMiles Promo

This promo awards bonus AMs when you buy multiples (usually) of about 50 various name brands. Buy 5 different product offers and earn a bonus 50 AM ($6.50 value). I usually find it hard to find 5 items I want and they’re often high-priced. However, the front page of the flyer usually has one or two inducement products of better value.

a. Royale Bathroom Tissue Buy 2 @ 9.99 each Get 50 AM bonus ($6.50 value)

b. Duracell batteries Buy 2 for 13.98 total Get 50 AM bonus (6.50 Value).

I actually bought “b” with 10% off from the We Care coupons taking it to $12.58 then $4 in PG coupons taking it to $8.58. S9o an $8.58 expenditure on something I needed anyway got $6.50 worth of AMs.

Note: You have to present the coupon from the flyer to get AM credit for these particular items. The House Brand offers are automatic.

Again, I am hard pressed to find 5 of the 35 items in the flyer I’d want to buy to get the bonus 50 AMs. There are a couple worth mentioning though:

Cattlemen’s BBQ sauce $2.99 Buy 1 Get 10 AM (value $1.30)French’s Specialty Mustard 325ml $2.49 Buy 2 ( $4.98) Get 15 AM (value $1.95)
Nature’s Blend Bagels 6’s $2.50 Buy 2 ($5) Get 15 AM (value $1.95)

3. Name Brand Offers

Just a few of note:

Captain High Liner Healthy Bake Fillets $4.99 Buy 2 Get 15AM ($1.95). I wouldn’t normally look at this but there’s always coupons around for the Captain. Add that in and We Care coupons and they’re around $3.80 each.

Several Kellogg’s products in the $3.50 to $7.99 range. Buy 6 Get 50 AMs ($6.50). The $7.99 product is waffles. You’d do a lot better buying the house brand waffles that are Buy 5 Get 50 on sale items this week.

Dove, Sauve, Lever, Axe $2.50 to $5.99 Buy 6 Get 40 AMs ($5.20).

The House Brands Buy 5 Get 50 AMs seems to be the best bet again this week.
