I’m so excited for bonus redemption weekend! After several 20x points events and other promos, I’m sure lots of SC’ers have a ton of points to redeem. Perfect time to get some early Christmas shopping done, or pick up some clearance Halloween stuff.

Have never done this before, can you redeem for some gift certificates or does it have to be merchandise?

Gail – gift certificates are excluded from this promo, along with prescription purchases, products with codeine, non-pointable items, tobacco products (where applicable), stamps, passport photos, lottery tickets, event tickets, transit tickets and passes, gift cards, prepaid phone cards, prepaid card products.

No gift certificates – merchandise only!
Debating on whether to buy the Wii with my points or wait & buy it at a 20x event. Might use my $200 in points to buy games/accessories to go with the Wii.

  5. Brenda says:

Anyone know how much the Wii costs at Shoppers???

  6. Lynda says:

Can you cash your optimum points in for gift cards regularly? Or are they always excluded? I thought I had been told you could when it’s NOT a bonus redemption day. Anyone know?

  7. pateyface says:

    @Lynda:
You can never redeem your points for gift cards, whether it be a bonus redemption or not.

  8. Kim says:

did anyone ever get the points from the drug refill call in promo?

I called in sept 1st and it said 4-6 weeks and I didn’t get any points (I was hoping for them to hit the next redemption! but it looks like i’ll miss this one now)

  9. sabina says:

oh cool , but I still don’t have enough points for this

  10. monica says:

Ok, this is will be my first redemption. I will be redeeming 95K points so my total should be $200 before taxes and coupons? or it could be $200 after all my coupons?

  11. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

monica – after coupons, before taxes.

  12. monica says:

    Thanks irefuse!!! yeyyyy….i can’t wait…

  13. monica says:

ok, sorry but i have another quick question. Do you still get bp points? so if i spend $200 i will get 2000?

  14. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

monica – You don’t get points when you pay with points. However, if you buy a product that has bonus points, for example, Get 500 bonus points when you purchase product X, you will get the 500 points. So, base points – no, bonus points – yes, but only if it’s a set amount (like 500, 1000, etc.) and not Get 20x points when you buy product X (as in the Simply Food promo).

  15. monica says:

Awwww…thanks again. I guess i asked for too much?

  16. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

    Have fun redeeming!

  17. Nicole says:

Is this a good deal? I haven’t paid attention in the past to the Redeem your points events. Is this a pretty standard offer, or should I just keep banking my points? I’d appreciate the advice.

  18. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

Nicole – on a regular day 95000 pts will give you $170 worth of stuff, this weekend it’s $200. That’s an extra $30 in free items you can get for the same amount of points. Bonus redemption weekend is the best time to redeem. Some people have redeemed for netbooks, TVs, cameras, video games, gaming consoles, etc. Some people redeem for grocery items, baby formula, diapers, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc.

  19. Gail says:

Really looking forward to this, my first time redeeming any points 🙂 Hopefully the prices this weekend will be good on items as well. Thanks to everyone for all the information here, it has helped a great deal.

  20. CarlyinCanada says:

Thanks! I’ve been saving my points & have enough to redeem $500!!! omg!!!
    (2x $200 & 1x $100) I’m getting some gift sets (cosmetics/perfume/cologne for Xmas gifts!) YAY!!!
Don’t think I will redeem all my points..may save some for closer to Xmas! lol 🙂

    Have fun everyone!!!! 🙂

  21. DiamondLil says:

Do Optimum plus members still get bonus Optimum points with the redemption? I havent redeemed any points since the spring and dont know if they still offer that.

  22. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

DiamondLil – Sorry they changed that policy on July 1st. No more kickback during redemption for Plus members 🙁

  23. SavingMentor says:

Lots of questions about the Optimum program here. I’m not sure if I am allowed to post a link here, but I have a complete guide to the Shoppers Optimum program on my site (click my name). It is very detailed and should answer most of the questions you have.

I will be spending my points this weekend as well, thanks for the heads up!
