*Offer valid on the purchase total of eligible products using a valid Shoppers Optimum Card® after discounts and redemptions and before taxes. Maximum 7,000 points per offer regardless of total dollar value of transaction. Excludes prescription purchases, Shoppers Optimum Bonus Points®, Shoppers Optimum® Mastercard® points, products that contain codeine, non-pointable items, tobacco products (where applicable), lottery tickets, stamps, transit tickets and passes, event tickets, electronic gift cards, prepaid phone cards, Life Experience® packages and Shoppers Home Healthcare locations. Offer applies to photofinishing services that are picked up and paid for on the day of the offer only. Not to be used in conjunction with any other points promotions or offers. Offer is valid from Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 until Monday, Jan. 25, 2010.

Yay! Now I know what you’re thinking….it’s not as good as 20x the points but better than nothing! Buy a $50 SDM GC to get 500 regular points for a total of 7500 points made during this event. There are also plenty of coupons to be used in this weekend’s SDM flyer. Click here to check out this weekend’s SDM flyer posted by DGirl.

In addition, Thursday, Jan. 29, 2010 is Seniors Day where seniors get 20% off AND a $10 coupon for purchases of $50 or more. Wow!

***UPDATE with info from my friend mcminsen***

A few things to remember… the senior’s discount (20%) is good only on regular priced merchandise, not sale stuff. The coupon bonus available to a senior is probably one of those SDM coupons that has a relatively short expiry date, so pay attention to that if you get one. Also, those SDM coupons act as a coupon on your next purchase and may not count towards a minimum spend if you were using it in a bonus points event down the road. I think there was at least one person that used one of these SDM coupons during the “Tell a Friend” event and it screwed things up because it didn’t actually count towards the minimum spend because it was a “coupon”.

If you happen to have $100 or more of shopping to do, it might make sense to split it into two $50 transactions to see if you can get this deal (7000 points for $50 spend) twice. Note: “Maximum 7,000 points per offer regardless of total dollar value of transaction.” This all can still be a good deal, just be aware of some stuff! :-)

So can I get a senior to shop for me??? ie My mom???

I buy a $50 gc, then she “spends” it for me on Sr.s day???

  2. Justine says:

you should add the dates of when this is valid.

Shoppers is cutting back on their promotion? Not 20X, not 15X but 14X…Urm I’ll wait til they are desperate and have the 20X.

  4. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

    Thanks Justine! Updated!

Julie – the 7000 bonus pts are only from Jan. 23-25 and the seniors day is Jan. 29. So either 7000 BP or 20% off and $10 SDM coupon. Since the 7000 pts is worth $10 anyway(not on Bonus Redemption Days), you get an extra 20% off your purchase if your mom shops for you. Which, if you get exactly $50 worth of stuff, equals to an extra $10 savings.

I thought from a thread in the Deals Forum that gift cards are excluded? I need to know asap! Thanks

  7. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

afshi – When you buy an SDM gift card you get regular points only, not bonus points. The purchase of a gift card (whether SDM or for another store) does not count toward your $50 purchase.
So you can purchase a $50 SDM gift card and get 500 pts, then use that same gift card to make your $50 purchase between Jan. 23-25 to get the bonus 7000 pts. For a total of 7500 pts.

  8. afshi says:

    gotcha! thanks!

mcminsen– You knock my SDM socks off!!!

  12. Cmoody8107 says:

Just to be clear – it is $50 AFTER coupons ??? (LOL I know it will be asked 40 times!!)

  13. afshi says:

anything worth buying that weekend that could total $50??

  14. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

cmoody – Yes it is AFTER coupons. Trust me, I personally had a problem with this in the past. It is DEFINITELY AFTER COUPONS.

  15. IRefuseToPayFullPrice says:

afshi – Click on the link in the post to see this weekend’s flyer.

  16. 7mountains says:

What age does SDM consider to be senior??? At Zeller’s it is 55, I am sure different stores have diferent ages as well.

  17. Sean says:

55 is considered a senior at Shoppers

  18. Rosa says:

I say something is better than nothing! They have really promoted bonus points this year!

  19. mhk says:

McMinsen is very clever :)(hodari – in Kiswahili – new word for you buddy!!)

Anyway, why not just use the buy $50 and get 10,000 bonus points coupon which the Optimum Plus people got? I think its valid till Jan 31, 2010! Mind you, with that non-plus members may be playing russian roullette in that they may get nothing….. 🙁 ??

  20. sharp1 says:

This is perfect timing. The Sunday/Monday specials are all baby things I need to buy soon. I’m already back to 75000 points even after buying a Wii in December. I love SDM!

  21. JB says:

What coupon was sent out and when?? I am a plus member and did not receive a coupon.

  22. Jenn says:

I was also wondering about whether or not the 10,000 bonus points coupon could be used… I have yet to find where I put it, but… lol!

  23. Jenn says:

Nevermind, I just found the coupon and read the fine print:
“Not to be used in conjunction with any other Shoppers Optimum Points promotions or offers.”

  24. Maja says:

    Hi Jenn,
which 10 000 bonus points for optimum plus members you are talking about?
    TXS

  25. Jenn says:

There was a coupon a little while ago that I think was circulated to Plus members for 10 000 Shoppers Optimum Points, valid until Jan 29…
