Shoppers Drug Mart to Change Self-Checkout

Announcements

I’m so glad to hear that Shoppers Drug Mart is changing the voice of their self-checkout! Apparently Shoppers Drug Mart received many complaints about the voice and therefore decided to change it. I’m yet to hear the new voice but good call Shoppers!

WAS it that bad? What did the voice sound like?

  2. SuzyQ says:

By the time minimum wage reaches $15 there will be no jobs for cashiers.

  3. Christopher says:

Cashier jobs will be non-existent in roughly two years. Although shelf stockers are fortunate they will be spared their jobs.

Since when does Shoppers have self-checkouts? Wish that would come to Saskatoon…..

  5. Christopher says:

Since minimum wage has increased in Ontario.

The Meadowlands Shoppers in Ancaster has at least one self-checkout. The problem I have with the voice is that anyone in the cash area knows exactly what it going on at the self checkout as the automated voice is loud.

I like having people for cashiers–chance to learn about store products and get to know them as persons when the lineups are not long. But only one checkout plus the beauty counter are ever seemingly open. I have to pop in a Thurs morning when its Seniors Optimum day to see if two tills are open in the regular cash area. Some seniors have 6pk pop sweet teeth like me!

I’ve used the self-checkout and didn’t notice any problem at all.

Self-checkout is a sneaky was to force customer to be part time cashiers. On the other hand, cashiers can be annoying. Just yesterday at SDM, this woman was asking me if I need a plastic bag through her colleague (tall White man). I was standing closer to her than the man but she looked at me and then asked him, “Does she need a plastic bag?” Referring to someone in third person is rude. I ignore her. She asked again, so the guy asked me directly. I confronted her, but she just ran away!

And this is why we want machines.

      “tall White man”

what does his height and skin colour have to do with anything?

      seriously

Maybe she was being trained? Love how some customers always feel like they have a sense of entitlement over people making minimum wages working twice has hard… Have a bit of respect, wasn’t like she told you off.. she asked if you needed any bags and you got offended? You need to go and see a shrink..

Do not use self-checkouts. Save jobs. And don’t put things back where they belong. Let the employees do it. If you are tidy, the store does not need employees. Again, save jobs.
