Shoppers Drug Mart Canada Transfer Your Prescription and Get 60,000pts or $100

prescription-drugs1

Are you getting anything from the place you currently fill your prescriptions?  If you said no then Shoppers Drug Mart has an offer for you.  If you transfer your prescription to their pharmacy you will get a choice of either 60,000 bonus Optimum points or $100.  The rewards are given as a coupon book.  If you choose the points you get a booklet with 10 coupons for 6000 bonus points per prescription fill and if you choose the $100 you will get a coupon book with 10 coupons for $10 per prescription fill.  Not a bad deal at all.  To transfer your prescription call 1-800-SHOPPERS.  It says it’s a limited time offer but I couldn’t find an end date for the promotion.

Thanks to DGirl for posting the details of this offer.

This is a really cool pic! Kudos to those of you who can take advantage of this offer.

  2. dphil says:

The only thing is that Shoppers is one of the most expensive places to fill prescriptions. So you might be getting points in return but it would have been money saved getting your prescription somewhere else.

  3. vanessa says:

i called shoppers yeseterday re this offer and they told me it’s not availabe in Ontario. so sad.

  4. bylo says:

    > it’s not availabe in Ontario

Because the Ontario College of Pharmacists has ruled that it’s unethical to offer inducements on prescription drug purchases. Does SDM offer points or senior’s discounts on prescription drugs? (I suspect not for the same reason, even if they do offer points for using their credit cards to make those purchases.)

Actually surprised that the other provinces allow this.

And yes, what you save in SDM points by switching you’ll more than lose in SDM’s much higher dispensing fees.

  5. hogama says:

hmmm… interesting about the higher prices & dispensing fees…

  6. Sue says:

    EEEK!!! What a picture.

  7. 7mountains says:

What are other people paying for dispencing fees in other pharmacies out west???? I do agree that SDM is expensive, $9.85 per prescription. My DH medication every month is $100, and that is a lot of points over the run of a year.

  8. julyprincess says:

Good deal but the picture gave me the creeps!

  9. Donna says:

LOL ! the pics. that are put on the blog page to go with the deals are just …..outstanding……I chk . the blog page sometimes just to see what new pics. have been posted , fave. being the “baby deals” ones, hats off to you guys !! 🙂

  10. chickendog says:

Yummm, that pic make me want to be a cannibal 😛

  11. Kerri says:

Oh wow, this isn’t worth it unfortunately for me. Costco is waaaaaay cheaper so that $100 is nothing compared to the money I save by going to Costco. If you don’t have a Costco card you might want to spend the $50 a year if you have a prescription. When I get my meds at Costco I pay $133 a month as opposed to the $187 I was paying a month at Shopper’s!!! That is a HUGE difference!!!!

  12. FreebieChick says:

Yes, SDM is pricey to fill prescriptions! I get my prescriptions at WalMart and the filling fee i believe is somewhere between $3 & $6 so at least $4 cheaper than SDM. Also, i saw a few posts above mentioning receiving points whicj i’m assuming means SDM Optimum pts but you don’t get Optimum pts for prescriptions, sad but true :O(

  13. honeybee. says:

I just got a prescription at a small drugstore and they charged me $12
for filling fee! I went there thinking they would be beter than other places!Guess I won’t be going there again for the refill.

  14. Natalka says:

Here’s a listing I found – 2007 – listing of dispensing fees by province and pharmacy. Note that they are listed as ‘average’ so actual may vary –

    http://www.mgagroupbenefits.com/docs/DFS_AVG_Dispensing_Fees-2007.pdf

  15. Natalka says:

Hm, can’t add to what I already wrote…

I wanted to add that I wished it said on the slip which comes with the prescription how much the dispensing fee is, and how much the drug. Yes, I know one can ask, but…

  16. Tiffany says:

I already get my rx’s Filled at shoppers. And I get SDM points on my Prescriptions but I am in BC

  17. barginshopper says:

Just so everyone knows you can get your prescrition filled at Costco even if you do not have a membership. My mom gets her prescritions filled at Costco all the time. This might be just in Ontario but I am not sure. May save people a lot of money.

  18. Marketing_Guy says:

    Re: barginshopper
Excellent point about Costco – they can’t deny you access to their pharmacy if you’re a member. On the US side of the border, Costco actually scored big when Obama encouraged Americans to fill their prescriptions at Costco to take advantage of the significant cost savings. So for anyone with a Costco nearby – member or not – check out their pharmacy and take advantage of the cheapest dispensing fees around.

  19. Marketing_Guy says:

Sorry, meant to say if you’re NOT a member they can’t deny you access.

  20. Sally says:

How much is their dispensing fee? We have a pretty lucrative drug plan through my husbands work. It would take a long time to even use the 100$ coupons.

  21. mlongboat says:

Last Time I got a script filled at costco the fee was $4 and change and the meds were cheaper than zellers. (Ontario)

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2010/03/02/ns-blue-cross-shoppers-drugs.html

Do not get sucked into this offer from Shoppers. They charge more for the drugs than BlueCross will cover, and they also charge some of the highest dispensing fees in the country! More your prescriptions to Lawtons, Walmart, Zellers, etc while you can.

  23. Tara says:

Just wanting to comment on this cuz I LOVE THAT PHOTO!!!! lol

  24. Alex says:

I found the picture to be disturbing. Just my opinion.

  25. Abby says:

I know here in Ontario it’s a $4.11 dispensing fee to get prescriptions filled at Costco, whereas Shoppers is $11.99. Also, Shoppers here tells me that I cannot collect optimum points on prescription fills. I used to get all my prescriptions filled at Shoppers when I was in school because it was convenient and I could easily get my prescription transferred to Shoppers in different cities. Now that I’m back home though I think I’ll try to fill my prescriptions at only Costco (especially great if you don’t have a drug plan!).

The Toronto Star has table for dispensing fees in Ontario: http://www.fiscalagents.com/thestar/dis_fee.shtml

  26. Abby says:

Woops, yeah, the Toronto Star table is for southern Ontario.

  27. Lulu says:

THAT pic is so disgusting and so is Shoppers Drug Mart….they treat their employees like crap and really do not care about customer service just $$…my opinion.

  28. kerry says:

I’m on a medical plan and get my scrips for free,so I just transferred my prescription from save on foods to shoppers, just to get the booklet.Im already 6000 pts ahead

  29. kerry says:

Gross picture, reminds me of those german dead people that they pose and display.

  30. nevs says:

    amazing pic.

  31. Anonymous says:

I still think it’s highly unfair for Ontario residents. They should offer us something else if they can’t give us the Optimum points.

  32. kris says:

    Johnathan:
The Blue Cross issue is with ALL pharmacies not specifically a Shoppers Drug Mart problem.

To anyone who is with Blue Cross or wants more info on this situation please follow the preceeding link. Please take notice that ALL pharmacies will have to sign a new deal with Medavie Blue Cross.

  33. Jerry says:

I just don’t understand how people can be so easily sway’d by a points program. You are just a number to SDM’s mass corperate giant. They want to suck you into their Pharmacy so that you will think the prices are so great…actually they bank on it. Take a look at their regular prices and compare before you jump in with both feet.
Like the old saying goes…you get what you pay for. A $3 walmart script fee is great but what are you getting for that $3? How many Walmart pharmacists will spend the time to talk to you about new medicines? I pay $11 at a small LOCAL pharmacy and appreciate that they know me and my family. I can call them with a question they know exactly who I am, what I take and if my Dr has made an error. I am happy to pay for great service that you won’t find at an SDM or a Walmart.

  34. Sue says:

The promo ads are a bit misleading. The explanation at the top of this page is clearer.

The ads in the newspapers made me think I’d get 60,000 just for transferring one prescription. Good thing I called. Not worth it for me.

  35. Anthem says:

This offer is soo retarded. What overpaid exec came up with the bs pr stunt? They could have used the promotion money to lower dispensing cost which is at $9.15 where I work, or pay their employees a decent wage. I make $10.95/hour as a tech so I’m basically making what a stocker/burger flipping job would pay except I have to put my name on everything I dispense and I’m responsible for peoples well being -sic-

I wish I worked for Costco, LOL.

Oh, and if they were hoping on a unstoppable amount of transfers, we had 7 since the promotion came into effect = EPIC FAIL =

  36. grayad says:

Ontario is the only province in Canada that is not allowed to give opt. points on prescripts 🙁 sorry people:(

    Adam. SDM employee 134.

  37. So, who’s ready for Cyber Monday?
