Just a reminder, read and saw this on the news yesterday!
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume Compliments brand Sensations Old-Style Smoked Ham because the product may be contaminated with listeria.
The affected product is sold in 175 gram packages with a best before date of Nov. 13, 2011.
The product was distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, but there haven’t been any reported illnesses associated with its consumption.

What is ‘Utility Turkey’ anyhow???
Turkeys (like meat) are graded. Basically a Grade A turkey is a perfect looking turkey. A utility turkey might be missing part of a wing, or have some other minor defect in appearance. I have bought utility turkeys many times and they are just as delicious as any other, and I usually can’t even notice the defect. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. P.S. It is always interesting to note different families’ traditions…my mother-in-law makes homemade cranberries and they are yummy. You can buy the berries in the fresh fruit section, boil them with some water and add sugar (directions are on back of packaging) and you will have jars for this turkey and more. It is something you can do several days ahead if you want.
Thanks for this! We don’t celebrate holidays, but we always buy turkey and stuffing when it goes on sale and then have it other times of the year, because you just cannot beat .88/lb for a turkey!!
I usually buy 3-4 utility turkeys when it is at .99 per/lb then cut off legs, wings, and thighs and freeze these separate. Then put all the breast meat through the meat grinder. Then I always have ground turkey breast for chillies, meatballs, etc. From leftover bones I make turkey stock. The only thing that gets thrown away is skin. All my friends now do that. If I don’t feel like grinding meat, I cut up turkey breast in portions, for stir fries and pastas. Love this time of the year for cheap turkey meat 🙂
Don’t forget for the bakers out there….Lactancia Cream Cheese 400g tub, 1.97 @ FreshCo.
Thank you so much for this list! What a huge help it is to plan the grocery shop strategy.
