Spring at Zellers

I was shopping at Zellers yesterday and came across the messiest isle ever. Yet it looked very bright and colourful 😀

You know, that doesn’t surprise me at all. Over the years, Zellers has become one of the most unorganized and messy store out there. I remember going there at the end of January with my youngest and I put her in a cart to save my arms. I honestly couldn’t make it through the store. One aisle there was a ladder, another there was a floor buffer machine, and the third aisle had a mop and bucket. I was stuck. Ended up leaving and I haven’t been back since!

Tell me you snapped this with a camera phone. If so, you have to let us know what you’re using — that’s amazingly better quality than mine!

Probably setting up for a Smartcanucker’s coupon binge!!!

I LOVE Zellers…better them than Walmart! I want to support Canadian business!

Could be they’re in the process of reorganizing the ailes and shelves, so in the meantime there were products on the floor.

No matter – these pics make me laugh – getting ready for spring cleaning, eh?!

Zellers is own by an American company

Zellers is a PIGSTY and has been for a long time. I go there very infrequently, and each time I mentally prepare myself for walking into the retail equivalent of a badly organized garage sale.
They’ve earned their fame for their non existent merchandising skills. Going in there, I know it’s going to be an unpleasant experience – before I deal with a staff member! I used to think that it was only the odd store that was so bad, but I haven’t been able to find a store that is marginally acceptable.

  7. Catherine says:

Looks like they were just unpacking the new shipment and filling up the shelves. No matter what retail stores do some people are just never happy. It’s not just Zellers. If the shelves were empty people would complain, but because they’re trying to actually get product to the floor people are complaining. If you don’t like shopping there don’t! Nobody’s forcing you. By the way, the company is owned by an American. Mr. Zucker died last year but his wife has apparently taken over. However, all offices and stores are still in Canada. A lot of Canadians would be out of work without them. So, depends on how you look at it, I guess.

Thats not even messy compared to our Zellers it was so messy on Sunday I couldn’t navigate down the baby aisle. It looked like someone drunk went in and knocked stuff everywhere kicked it around etc.

It was soooo messy, clothes all over the floors in dirt etc.

    Sure their restocking BUT

Walmart restocks too and yet its never this messy. I don’t see why you have to mess things up that much to restock. It was disgusting. Standing there and watching a worker kick away a pile of socks on the floor with her feet didn’t help my stance either.

I would LOVE it if that were one of our Zellers stores – ours are always stock-less for sales!

Jim, that was using a first generation iPhone 🙂

Catherine, I’m not complaining. I think the colours on the floor look splendid! I love it lol

I HATE shopping at Zellers. I only go there as a last resort, as they never seem to have enough stock when they have a good sale on, the place is filthy, and the staff most times don’t even know what is in their current flyer. I don’t care if they are restocking – that is what night staff is supposed to do, and day staff are only supposed to maintain stock levels. I used to work at a Zellers in high school, and let me tell you, if you think the STORE is dirty, you should see the stock room!

They’re probably changing the way the shelves are merchandised. because the powdered laundry soaps are going to be concentrated and therefore using less shelf space. When I was at Sobeys they had all the TIDE and Sunlight powder 30% off. Just like a few months ago when all the liquids became 2x concentrated.

  13. SJM says:

Catherine: With your attitude and insight you must be store management. For execution and customer service – go to Walmart. For an excellent shopping experience, go to CDN botique store and buy a shirt, shoes, or bike- plus the profits are speant locally.

For some reason I am liking Zellers more than Walmart at least the one I go to, they are not picky with the coupons and price matching like walmart, sure it can be messy and stuff but i prefer that than a rude cashier who wont take my coupons or price match. I dont know Walmart has become so picky and in Walmart they dont make fuzz over my coupons and are not like reading every word in the coupons and starring at them for like the longest time.

On the other side of the spectrum, If only there’s a bunch of nuns with rulers smacking the hands of those shoppers who just shove products they do not want all over the stores…..hate to think what kind of place they live in…..

  16. Janet says:

I should have taken a picture the last time I was in Wal-Mart. The pantry shelves were out of 50 percent of their products. When there was product there was often only a couple of packages each.
    What a mess.

Zellers Is Owned By The Hudsons Bay Company,Last Years Fall Stock Comining Out For Spring. At A Higer Price Than Last Year.

  18. sam says:

some people love to compaint , not just zellers every store is messy even the grocery stores, some people complaint about the stores just to get discount, they shout at employees and ofcourse they want the product that’s actually not in stock. If you don’t like the stores just don’t go there you don’t have to go around and tell everybody, i have seen people doing that , beleive me those people look stupid and people laugh at them

  19. willowsprite says:

Yeah, I haven’t shopped at Zellers in a long time. My biggest thing was there was never any prices on half of the items. And when you try to find an employee to help you, they’re never around.

About a month ago when we were in the states we went to Target, which is the equivelent of a Zellers store here. Wow, were we impressed at the service! We were asked by three different employees if we were finding everything ok!

Zellers is no more “canadian” then walmart. HBc was taken over by American Zucker years ago, and since sold to an American investment/real estate firm that owns lord & Taylor. WIth the firing of 1,000 staffers, much of the, back office people, the jobs of which have now been consolidated with Lord and taylor in the USA it may be less Canadian then walmart.

There i no question zellers is the biggest mess of any large format store in Canaada.. Through 3 owners they can\t seem to execute anything well.

  21. Fred Bennet says:

This whole thread is unfair towards Zellers. What is happening here is either a re-line, or an inventory count. Look at the shelves and you will notice that the products are neat and tidy.A while ago the laundry detergent catagory all changed at once to double strenght concentrate. It is probable that this is a section that is in the middle of a change over. I doubt that this product was on the floor for too long since if a customer tripped and fell, there would be an expensive liability.
A lot of the comments on here are just cheap shots against Zellers.

  22. amycanada77 says:

They may hvae been getting ready for a clearance – I was in my zellers about a week ago and they had all those tide sensite laundry detergent on sale – white jug with green lids (because it is the old format – not the double concentrated or wahtever – so they are trying to clear them all out!!)

  23. Sally says:

    Fred Bennet:

My dislike of Zellers has 0 to do with Boo’s picture, other then a chance to express my distaste for our local Zellers, that is extremely messy and dirty, not to mention the staff is rude and walks around like their all hungover.

    Its just gross.

  24. nsangel says:

the stuff was piled neatly on the floor infront of the shelves. it was not just thrown in the center of the isle. really wot are you expecting from preschoolers?
