This is a great savings card to have.. I would strongly suggest to those NON STUDENTS who would like a card to wait a little longer until the SPC VIP (no student id required) becomes available – either through LouLou Magazine subscription or another way.

Do you have to show your student card every time you use it? how would they know if you are a student or not?

I use this card all the time…last year i got it just in time for some big purchases and saved around $200 in the first week!!

I’ve never been asked for a student card, but maybe it’s because I still look/dress like a student haha (hopefully the looking young part never ends!)

I also have the bmo spc credit card….its the normal bmo mosaik card except it says SPC on it …so I dont have to spend the extra $10 every year to renew it…and the best part is …i don’t forget the SPC card at home anymore (cuz its on my credit card)…and if i dont notice that a store takes SPC…when I hand over my credit card…the teller usually notices and then gives me a discount anyways 🙂

I use mine from time to time:
I have never been asked for my student id at Pizza Hut, Bentleys or Payless Shoe however I have been asked for it at Zellers even though it was the end of August: “it’s like: Hello?! Now why the heck would I have my student id card with me in AUGUST?”
10% on shoes, clothes and backpacks eventually adds up.

Just curious: Who would want to buy 20 SPC cards for free shipping =D (see above)

Oh, and for us highschool students who dont have credit cards yet, their site takes INTERACT (well they did last year anyways: havent ordered a new one yet)

I dont know, perhaps its me but compared to last year, I think that the design is ugly =D….I guess that esthetics arent everything…

  7. amycanada77 says:

Can University or College students use them – because I’m no longer in school but I’m only 23 …maybe I could still pass a student … but get screwed if they ask me for student i.d.

  8. Boo Radley says:

Joel, I totally agree! The design’s fugly!

Amy, Yep it’s for college and university students too.

  9. Candy Man says:

I’m sure you all still have your old student cards. You can probably use that. I don’t think they would scan it or anything.

  10. MissScrooge says:

haha Joel & Boo! Briefing the blog here, to see this post and had to stop to comment on the design, but it appears you two have beat me to it. Fugly would definitely be the word to describe it. What the hell were they thinking??

I graduated Uni “a few” years ago but have continued getting an SPC card every year anyway. Most places don’t ask for ID but I had a tough time with Zellers, especially at 2 particular locations who not only insisted on seeing ID but also checked for it’s year of validity. I was tres embarrassed since I did whip out my old card and they saw that it expired 5 years ago. Zellers also put a lot of restrictions on the discount and said it couldn’t be given on any merchandise that wasn’t “student supplies”. I think that clerk was just being a be-otch that day.
However, to save embarrassment this year, I will wait for the VIP edition. I hope the link/application for that one will be posted on here soon.

  12. Ualenuj says:

I have a VIP card and I am ALWAYS asked to show my student card at Zellers and the Bay. I point out to the cashier that it says right on the front of the card “No student ID required”. They still insist on seeing my student ID. I usually end up having to pay for my items at customer service where they know the SPC rules better. I’ve even called the SPC people to complain about how difficult it is use a VIP card. The SPC peolpe said that they would try to better educate the staff at Zellers. That was last September – it is now July and I was still asked to show my ID last week!
