I like Smoke’s. It’s especially good for vegetarians/kosher peeps ’cause they have a veggie gravy on-hand!

But it still sucks overall for it’s non traditional poutine gravy. Wished they came with an option for traditional quebec gravy.

Best after bar food EVER! 🙂
But in T.O, they gotta compete with burrito boys just down stairs and they’re awesome too!

I live in Northern Ontario near the Quebec border where we have the best poutine around, but I do agree, when in Toronto, you have to visit Smoke’s just to see the variety 🙂 I think I had a bacon cheeseburger poutine with a side of guacamole the last time and it was totally unbelievable 🙂

Smoke’s is very cheap on cheese. There should be almost twice as much. As a former Quebecer, it does not stand up anywhere close to anything any Casse-Croute makes. I’ve eaten three times at Smokes downtown, and disapointed each time.

Yes, it’s a great introduction to Ontarians to poutine, but it’s nowhere like it’s served in Quebec. I did give the owner feedback on my first visit the first week he opened in Toronto, but no improvement.

The plus side is that Smokes uses real cheese curd. The downside is that it doesn’t squeek like curd at their Ottawa location or anywhere in Quebec. In Ottawa (and Eastern Ontario and Quebec) curd is only fresh if it is unrefridgerated. Curd must never be refridgerated. It’s no longer fresh after 2 days it’s been made because it’s refridgerated after that, and once refridgerated, it looses its squeek. Surely there must be a dairy/cheesemaker in the 905 that can make fresh cheese curd, instead of keeping it cold and brought in from Smiths Falls or Western Quebec?

I bought it, but it’s not such a great deal. I only got it because the gift card doesn’t expire; so I can use it years from now when I’m in the area. I just hate the thought of some dirty hipster touching my food.

A friend’s brother own the one in London, and I can assure everyone, he’s not a dirty hipster 😛 Scarey and tattooed, but not a dirty hipster.
