This is an awesome promo! Until June 5th show your SPC card at The Body Shop and receive $10 off your purchase of $20 or more. If you bought a Groupon last month you may be able to combine both promos. I just used mine last week and they let me use my SPC with the Groupon (regular discount is $5 off $20) In-store promo only.
I’m just curious whether or not people who use the SPC cards are actually all students? otherwise, isn’t it kind of abusing the system?
good deal nonetheless.
Well, theres the VIP spc card where you DO NOT NEED to be a student, says right on the card you don’t need to show id. Its a card that was sent out over the past years when you sign up for Lou Lou. You could be 100 and still use the card with no questions asked.
The SPC site says ‘Cannot be combined with any other offer.’ and ‘Cannot be used in conjunction with any other in-store promo.’
It’s worth a try, my Body shop said the groupon was to be used the same way a gift card was so they had no problen.
always try! i find it really depends on the employee/store.
Do you typically have to show your student id at the body shop or do they not ask?
@ S.Y. – abusing what kind of system, exactly? No one is stealing anything from you, so why would that be an issue 🙂
I bought a student SPC card religiously after I graduated from university, but Aldo among other places, started carding me, so I opted out for a VIP card instead.
I went to the body shop in the Toronto Eaton Centre. They had never heard of it and phoned head office who also said they had not heard of it. Does anybody have an email from the body shop? I also did not find it on the SPC website.
Avoid the Eaton centre body shop (I’ve written that a few times now). I had NOTHING but troubles there, redeeming my groupon, using my spc etc. I will never go back to that location.
If you search in the deals and flyer forum there is a post with Couponlady with the header of the deal.
I’m a uni student who uses the SPC card and I did receive an email from SPC with this deal in it (along with a coupon for Harvey’s), so it is legit!
Some places ask for student ID and some don’t. I’ve be carded, but a friend of mine who is done school still uses hers and hasn’t been carded.
I just came back from the Ottawa Rideau Centre store and they never heard of this promotion either. Had to settle for the “buy one get one at 50%” deal 🙁
Victoria Hillside location were really great with the Groupons.
This deal is on the spc card website so it should be legitimate:

any highschool, college or university student can get the regular spc, where are people getting the idea that everyone can obtain one? (aside from the above mentioned one that came with a magazine subscription).
You can apply for a SPC BMO MC but you need to be a student to get this Mastercard. This one does not need valid id.
You can purchase the usual SPC card right from their website or at any store that sells them – some retailers sell them on cash register
You won’t be carded purchasing it – I used to get mine @ university’s bookstore
Pre-ordering it online from SPC website usually came with a gift card of ur choice as well.
if you’re a student (or not i suppose), I HIGHLY recommend it. I’m a university student and it seriously helps when you’re a poor student. Although, perhaps in some areas you may have the chance of not being carded.. I’m always carded though! The only complaint I have is with Zellers… sometimes they don’t even accept the SPC card. Perhaps it’s some cashiers only, and I’ve also realized.. since I’ve been buying a ton of stuff for my dorm room (costing hundreds of dollars), if I’m not the one paying but my parents are, they will not take the SPC discount. So beware!
I have total shopper’s high after hitting the Body Shop at Southgate Mall in Edmonton today. Between the B3G2 sale, my member card and the cost of my two Groupons–the sales clerk let me use both at the same time–I got $178 worth of product for $58!
I had the same problem at the Eaton Centre. I was told that there was some kind of error (I’m guessing she was talking about SPC’s ad), and the deal is actually $5 off $20. Looks like I’ll have to try another location!
very good blog, thank you very much for your effort in writing the post.
