The Remedy to Swine Flu

Other / Canada

H1N1 Canada

Thanks Sunraven for sharing that “remedy” with us 😀

I was walking to the main post office in Kingston a few of days ago which was coincidentally beside one of the vaccination clinics. The lineups for the H1N1 vaccine were so long and looked so depressing. Thank goodness I don’t believe in whole H1N1 hype 😛

So, did you guys end up getting the H1N1 vaccine shots?

    No we didn’t.

I think if you generally get the flu shot then go for it.

We don’t get the regular flu shot and considering they say H1N1 is A LOT LESS SEVERE then the regular flu well pass.

It also wasn’t tested enough, and this is a repeat of the 1976 Swine Flu scare.

I do feel for the families that have lost members over this, OF COURSE I do!

But, the shot isn’t the right fit for us and I’m not anti Vaccine by any means.

    omggg sooo mean!!:P

  4. Chris says:

Yes, I did. I didn’t really want to but I am a health care worker and I have respiratory problems so I didn’t want to take a chance. I remember getting the normal flu during my first yr working at the present clinic and asking for time off was impossible – ugh.

quote- Fortunately, none of the swine flu vaccines used in the US are allowed to contain adjuvants such as squalene. At least not yet…

Canadians are not so lucky, however. On October 21, the Canadian minister of health issued an interim order approving the sale of an ASO3 adjuvanted H1N1 vaccine called Arepanrix.

Canadians need to know that each 0.5 ml dose of Arepanrix contains:

•10.69 mg of squalene (YIKES!!! GOOGLE IT)
•4.86 mg of Tween80. Also known as Polysorbate 80, it may be a hidden inductor of anaphylactic shock. One 2005 study concluded: “Polysorbate 80 is a ubiquitously used solubilizing agent that can cause severe nonimmunologic anaphylactoid reactions. “ (YIKES!!!)
•5 mcg of thimerosal ( when I was prego I was advised to not eat tuna as it wasnt very good for my grwoig fetus)

IM not so sure I want the injected into my arm where it can make its way to me or my childrens brain…..

However, with the growing number of deaths (alberta where I am from) from h1n1 ( 25 from h1n1 17 from the regular flu last year) I might have to reconsider. I am still waiting for 8 weeks to pass from the day they starting vaccing kids.( it will take 8 weeks until its possible to collect usable data) They didnt test it on kids prior to aproving it so im waiting. Until that time passes im doing what i have always done to avoid the flu ( cant remember the last time me or my child had the flu)optimize my vitamin D levels, exercise, eat right, and enough sleep.

With that said, IM not stupid…if the numbers go up , I roll up !!

P.s. If you sick stay away form me!!!

  6. Nemokeeler says:

NO i deffinatly didnt, i think the media has it blwn out of portion. As everyone has there own opinons on the shot i have mine and decided not to take it or give it to my kids!!!

  7. leftie says:

When it becomes available to the general public, I will be getting it – I have too much life to live yet so not taking any chances and I have an elderly mother that I love spending time with and want to be healthy when I am around her. Each to her own, but too many deaths from the swine flu for me to not even consider not getting it.

  8. janine says:

I will get it and I got my 9 month old it. If he was to die from H1N1 exactly how important would ANY reason seem after that?

  9. ergo2 says:

we got ours on the first day. 6hrs in line , but at least its done 🙂

  10. expatriot says:

I have chosen not to get it, and I have only spoken to a limited few who have received the vaccine. Currently the ECDC is reporting 6,483 confirmed H1N1 related deaths of the world’s 6.6 billion people, and of those, a great number of the victims had underlying medical conditions.

  11. Nettie says:

I’m still really on the fence about it. I started by definatly not wanting it, then I reconsidered a bit, now I’m back to not wanting it. I really have no idea if I will end up getting it. I think the media (and gov’t) has blown this way out of propotion. Of course it’s serious as people have died, but I’m still not sure it’s a bigger risk that the common flu.

It’s not available in NS yet unless you are in the high risk group, so I have more time to debate the issue.

This has been in the papers lately:
“Punishing workers for taking sick leave puts Wal-Mart on track to be a major spreader of Swine Flu this fall, according to a new report by the National Labor Committee. The retail giant gives workers demerits and deducts pay for staying home when they are sick or to care for sick children”

  13. anisa says:

    don’t believe in the h1n1 hype ?!?

children and adults are dying all across canada, within hours of being diagnosed. 30% of the population will be affected by the virus.

i guess you don’t believe in the polio, mumps, measles and rubella hype either…

  14. mo0ing_duckie says:

    Love the picture.

As far as the Vaccination is concerned, I doubt I’ll be getting one. I think I might already have a touch of “Pig Plague” as my sister lovingly calls it (even though the hospital in my town is telling everyone to stay home, so I’ll never know for sure) So I guess the shot would be redundant. I’ll admit I am a bit worried about the fact that young kids in generally good health are dying from this, and I’m keeping a close eye on my little siblings while they’re sick, and will make sure they go to the Emerg if their symptoms get worse. Other than that, it’s basically bedrest for the young ones and chaos for the grownups as usual.

  15. John says:

good job at portraying “government led society using scare tactics”. Will never take the REAL H1N1 found in the vaccine and any vaccine in the future.

  16. wifeyclk says:

Def. NOT taking it. People should really do the research before they do. It truly is a media hype, and on top of that ppl die from the flu every year. Do some in dept research in the ‘real’ numbers and you’ll find that it’s not THAT scary and it’s truly a media hype. ON another note, think about all the $ these vaccine companies are making!…oh and did anyone care to research about this – the people who work at these vaccine companies (their staff) Don’t vaccinate their families…maybe, just maybe it’s because they know what’s really in them and don’t wanna put that into their own bodies & their family members bodies…we should perhaps think twice about vaccinating. Just a thought. 😉

  17. evil.kitten says:

I believe the media has overhyped it too much…

So much so that my sister has changed her mind 100% from believing it’s all lies to running off and getting my niece and nephew vaccinated. [I think it was all the children deaths that pushed her.. my nephew is deathly allergic to nuts and his reactiosn mimick flu symptoms so every was urging her to get it, aside from us]

Every year during my 3 years of high [lol..do the math=p] I got the flu shot and within a month I was out of school for nearly 2 weeks with a terrible bout of the flu.. I haven’t had it since.

My mother has to get it not only because she’s a nurse working around the elderly but she’s having alot of health problems as of late that doctors cant figure out plus she’s overweight, has asthma and hypertension.. ugh.. I just don;t want her to kick the bucket.. lol

I rarely leave the house [it’s not bad as it sounds, I’m doing academic upgrading via correspondants at home because I don’t have a car and live in the middle of nowhere] other than to sometimes go in to town to get things or talk my dogs out for walks/check the mail. So I’m not getting it though I’m “urged” to by strangers on another forum because I’m overweight, pft.. given my history with vaccinnes.. I’ll take my chances without it.. My mom keeps trying to convince me.. “It’s a dead virus in the vaccine.. you’ll be fine” she who last week said she didnt want me getting it..

  18. dgefrerer says:

I am a nursing student and my current clinical placement is on a paediatric unit where most of the kids are isolated on H1N1 precaution. Last week, nurses came around the unit to administer the vaccine to staff and students… my decision to receive the vaccine seemed obvious and I don’t regret it. I was sore for two days – but this was no different from the standard flu vaccine I took last year.

  19. Mike says:

I will get the shot once it is available to the public. I am a graduate student who just finished a seasonal flu project with the Public Health Agency of Canada. I am also now working on another project studying H1N1 in Montreal. From what I have seen, there have been less serious side effects per 100,000 vaccines administered than with the seasonal flu. The strain of influenza used to manufacture the vaccine is very well matched to the currently circulating strain.

  20. ratatouille35 says:

I will get it and so will my hubby and our 9 months old baby. The hard part is to find it. We don’t have a family doctor and my pediatrician won’t have the vaccine until after the 16th of Nov. So I made an appointment with one of the Peel region clinics. How come pediatricians did not receive the vaccine yet, knowing that kids are part of the high-risk population? At least, it seems that Mississauga is doing a good job at managing lines and waiting time…

  21. Christina says:

No one in this house will be getting it!!

  22. The_Scarecrow says:

I think my work offered us to get it a while ago but I don’t want it. Last time I got a flu shot I got the flu and that was the only time I got sick the last 10 years give or take.

Our 10 month old has had her first shot but we haven’t had our shot. I wasn’t considered a priority because I wasn’t 20wks pregnant however this wk I am now in my 20th week and I am now taking tamiflu because they think I have the H1N1 🙁

  26. SCARED says:

If this vaccine is safe why are they not making it mandatory in school children like they do with all the other vaccines? You can’t start JK without all your vaccines being updated, but even though the H1N1 is so dangerous you can still go to school without the shot! Also, will this be like the regular flu vaccine which you will have to receive yearly once you start? They warn pregnant women not take any medication and to be careful what they eat because it could harm the fetus, but suddenly it’s ok to tae this vaccine–what about the baby now? Are they sure there is no side effects and if there is will they ever admit that it was due to the vaccine?

Pig says: “big deal…. I only have to cough, and the entire planet shits itself.”

  28. JSAM's Mom says:

Each season, people are administered a flu shot based on what the scientists BELIEVED the previous year was going to be coming in the upcoming flu season. I know that preventative medicines such as these have always been based on guesswork – nobody has a crystal ball to tell us what exactly what will come. But we KNOW that people take too many meds to prevent or to “overkill” viruses they already have, and now virus strains are morphing out of control.

Another point is that they also said that thalidamide was fine, and we all know how that turned out. Same thing with mercury in shots. The adjuvant being used in many of the H1N1 shots this year have not been thoroughly tested, and we do not know what the long-term effects are.

My son is 9 and isn’t eligible to receive a shot. If he was, and I chose not to have him immunized and he died, I would hate myself forever. But if he got the shot and he died or suffered some major catastrophic side effect from the shot, I would also hate myself forever. It is a gamble either way, and you only can hope you are making the best decision for yourself and your child.

We won’t be getting it, but will be taking all of the steps possible to try to keep ourselves safe until this passes: frequent hand washing, hand sanitizers for when we go out, extra doses of vitamins (check with your doctor for which ones are kid-safe), staying hydrated, and getting lots of sleep.

When I was pregnant I got the regular flu vaccine and now got the H1NI vaccine:)

  30. Catherine says:

Have to agree with Anisa. Healthy young people are dying from H1N1, not just those with underlying health issues. Why do so many people have the ‘It’ll never happen to me’ belief? It’s completely unrealistic to think this way.

  31. mom2boys777 says:

A very close friend of mine died from this flu after a 10 day fight in the Intensive care unit. He was otherwise an extremely healthy person. That is why there is so much “HYPE”. To all the people who believe it is not a big deal..guess what…IT IS!!..go get your shot and shut the hell up.

1- pregnant woman: nice they have unborn children. good target for medical profit by injecting them with diseases. Scare every mother and you’ll see $$$
2- elder people: nice they are old and naive, very good target as well for medical profit. just treat them with great customer service and there ya go, they will come back constantly. they are going to die anyways
3- teenagers: they just simply don’t care or have a say. blunt
4- children: similar to step 2
5- others: we need people to run this country and do the work for us right!

    anyways
my fiend went to take the tamiflu, the nurses even the doctor told her this can cause liver damage. And suggested to not take it.
I know someone who works in a clinic and told me the doctor laughs at these waves of vaccines which have not been tested and suggests people not to take it since they are perfectly healthy bu NO people are brained washed and they insist to take it. Its like I tell you not to take the venom but you insist on taking it

  33. Nrich6 says:

My husband, my 2 year old and I all got vaccinated the second day and waited 4.5 hours. It was a painful wait, but it is my personal choice. My son was pretty sick last year getting everything going and therefore bringing everything home to us. I am not a sick person normally and was pretty sick last year. That said, we are taking all the precautions this year. It is highly recommended by both doctors at the clinic we go to and many doctors and specialist fully endorse and recommend the H1N1. This is our personal choice for us. I believe everyone should make their own decision based on their circumstances.

    The H1N1 Influenza
    An Injection of Reason
    Joe Schwarcz PhD
I think the time has come to panic. But not about catching the H1N1 “swine flu.” And not about the alleged risks of the vaccine that can protect against it. For the vast majority of people, the flu will mean no more than a week or so of misery, not different from previous versions. As far as the risk of the vaccine goes, it’s minimal. However, there is something to panic about: the stunning and spectacular amount of misinformation being bandied about, ranging from cherry-picked data and the promotion of quack remedies to outlandish conspiracy theories about culling the world’s population.
I freely admit to not having expertise in this complex area, but I think I do have expertise in judging who does. And that would be the scientists at Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, the World Health Organization, Health Canada and major universities. These immunologists, virologists, toxicologists and epidemiologists spend their lives researching and evaluating vaccines. I trust their opinion, which is based on experimental evidence, over that of naturopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors and various graduates of the University of Google, for whom evidence-based medicine is a foreign concept.
No rational person with a plumbing or electrical problem would seek help from a former Playboy centerfold, a comedian who specializes in facial contortions, or a retired neurosurgeon. We would seek out a licensed plumber or an electrician. Yet when it comes to immunology, a field more complex than plumbing or wiring, many see no conundrum in being swayed by the rhetoric of Jenny McCarthy, Jim Carrey or Dr. Russell Blaylock, none of whom have training in this field. Of course, not all anti vaccine advocates are wackos, some do raise legitimate questions about vaccine components and possible subtle effects. Indeed, there are two sides to the vaccination debate, it’s just that they are not equal sides.
Unfortunately, the lay press, in its attempt to be “fair,” often presents the pro and con arguments as if these had equal weight. They do not. The vast majority of knowledgeable scientists are in the vaccine corner, recognizing vaccination as one of the greatest advances in the history of public health, at the same time being fully aware that as with any medical intervention, there are some risks. The point, though, is that they judge these risks to be significantly outweighed by the benefits. On the other hand, the very loud and often verbally abusive anti-vaccine minority greatly exaggerates the risks and minimizes the benefits. Science, though, is not on their side. But unfortunately emotion often trumps science. And conspiracy theories can be seductive.
One of the most convoluted tales is spun by Australian “investigative journalist” Jane Burgermeister. She contends that the H1N1 virus was genetically engineered and released by pharmaceutical companies so that they could then reap the profits from marketing vaccines. That claim almost sounds sane when compared with her other allegation that there is “evidence that an international corporate syndicate, which has annexed high government office inside the United States, is intent on carrying out a mass genocide using an artificial (genetic) flu pandemic virus and a forced vaccination program.” What possible reason can there be for decimating the public in this fashion? This mental maven has the answer: “To transfer control of the United States to the World Health Organization, the U.N., and affiliated security forces.” What can one say? Sometimes you run across comments that are so outrageous, so mindless and so contemptible that they do not merit rebuttal.
No, the H1N1 virus was not engineered by Big Pharma for financial gain. Neither is there any attempt to “cull” the population by the American government, and there is no callous disregard for public health by releasing an untested vaccine. Furthermore, it is not true that swine flu is simply another version of flu and is not unusually dangerous, as some allege. This flu affects young people, sometimes severely. Last summer, not considered to be flu season, 1 in every 20,000 children under four years old who contracted the flu ended up in hospital. The number of diagnosed cases is increasing and so are hospitalizations. The possibility of a serious pandemic is real and vaccination is a viable way to reduce the risk of this happening.
Of course when it comes to a new vaccine, there can be no guarantee of 100% safety. In science you have to learn to expect the unexpected. But there has been extensive testing of this vaccine, which is produced the exact same way that seasonal flu vaccines have been produced for decades. Over ten million doses of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine have already been administered with no more than the usual minor side effects, nothing more than a sore arm or headache. Of course as more people get vaccinated there will be claims of all sorts of adverse reactions as people will link health problems that would have arisen anyway with the vaccine. “After it, therefore because of it,” is a mental trap into which many fall.
One of the noisiest anti-vaccinationists is former neurosurgeon, Dr. Russell Blaylock. I can tell that his scary message about the horrors of vaccination is making the rounds very effectively because I’ve been deluged by emails asking me about his reliability. Well, to be charitable, I think his mental machinery is in severe need of a little lubrication. I’ve long been aware of the good doctor’s outlandish views on food additives, particularly aspartame and MSG. So I’m not at all surprised by his anti-vaccine rant. Some of his allegations about vaccines can be instantly shown to be wrong. For example, there never has been any squalene adjuvant in any U.S. vaccine. Adjuvants are added to increase the efficiency of the body’s reaction to the active ingredients in a vaccine, so that a smaller amount of vaccine goes a longer way. Squalene has been used in Europe and Canada for years without any problems being reported. That isn’t surprising given that this compound is actually produced in the human body, it is on the metabolic path to cholesterol. The amounts present in the body at any time are greater than that added to vaccines. Curiously, squalene is sold in health food stores as a dietary supplement to increase immunity, and is often guzzled by the same people who are worried about its presence in vaccines. More on the iconic and eclectic Blaylock later.
Anytime vaccination is mentioned, the issue of thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative used in some vaccines, rears its head. Numerous studies have investigated the allegation that mercury in vaccines is linked to developmental problems such as autism. No such connection has been found. One of the best studies was carried out by McGill researchers who surveyed almost 28,000 children born between 1987 and 1998, a period when thimerosal was widely used. There was no link with autism or any other developmental disorder. Another study at the University of California looked at 452 children aged 2 to 5 who were either developing normally, or had developmental problems such as autism spectrum disorder. There were no differences in blood mercury levels between autistic children and children with normal development.
Vitamin D, promoted as a weapon against the flu by those self-appointed saviours of humanity, Russell Blaylock, Joseph Mercola (an osteopath who maintains a popular website) and Gary Null (who is wooed by every type of woo out there) does play a role in immune function. But catching the flu is not a sign of immune deficiency. And the most recent double blind study, carried out with 162 adults taking 2000 IU of vitamin D3 daily during the flu season, showed no benefit in decreasing the incidence or severity of upper respiratory tract infections. Of course good nutrition is important for bolstering immune function, and taking a vitamin D supplement (1000 IU is the current consensus) is a good idea for various reasons, even if it doesn’t play a critical role in protection against viral diseases. However, suggesting, as Blaylock does, that fish oil or antioxidants help with H1N1 has no evidential basis, and recommending homeopathic remedies against the flu is just plain silly. The basic tenets of homeopathy, namely that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person will cure a sick person experiencing those symptoms, and that the remedy becomes more powerful with greater dilution, are absurd. Non-existent molecules do not have a physiological effect. They do, however, increase the coffers of the purveyors of these products, who incidentally, are often the same people who criticize Big Pharma for bilking the public. Nonsensical folkloric remedies such as placing bowls of onion around the house to “absorb” the virus are also making the rounds of the web.
The anti-vaccine crowd commonly brings up the possible link to Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare but potentially dangerous neurological disease. A possible connection to vaccines arose in 1976 when 48 million Americans were inoculated against the swine flu and 532 developed Guillain-Barre. That means roughly 10 cases per million vaccinated. No such relationship has been found with any vaccine since that time, suggesting that there was a problem with that specific vaccine, perhaps bacterial contamination. But here is the important statistic. The flu itself can cause Guillain-Barre, the risk being somewhere between 40 and 70 cases for every million people who get come down with it. Of course Guillain-Barre can be acquired by other means as well, with infection with the bacterium Campylobacter jejuni being a prime cause. Incidence, though, has been steadily falling, probably due to improved meat hygiene. Given that flu vaccines are produced in chicken eggs, the 1976 link between vaccination and Guillain-Barre may have been due to contamination of the vaccine by Campylobacter proteins. The 2009 H1N1 vaccine is produced the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine, which has been given for years with an impressive risk-benefit profile and no significant link to Guillain-Barre. Bottom line is that the risk of getting Guillain-Barre from the flu is 40 times greater than getting it from the vaccine.
People like Blaylock, Mercola and Null, with their scientifically unsupportable inane comments are a public menace. Having a background in neurosurgery or dentistry does not make you an expert in immunology or toxicology. For this we should look to the real experts at Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, the World Health Organization and Health Canada. Or listen to the likes of Dr. Paul Offit of the University of Pennsylvania who has spent decades carrying out research in immunology, including the development of a vaccine against rotavirus that has saved thousands of children from death. Of course Blaylock and his simple-minded confreres will claim that these organizations, as well as Dr. Offit are in cahoots with Big Pharma to sell more vaccine. Not only that, these evil organizations have even managed to convince the Deans of all major medical schools, who of course support vaccination, to collude with them in a nefarious scheme to defraud the public. What poppycock!
And then there is Dr. Rauni Kilde, a former provincial medical officer in Finland, whose video interview is all over the web. She sings the common song that the H1N1 vaccine was designed to diminish world population and put billions into the coffers of pharmaceutical companies. Children and pregnant women are to be vaccinated first, because this is the quickest way to eliminate the next generation. This mental giant is reported to believe that the Nazis visited the moon in the1940s, that the U.S. government has inserted microchips into babies for future mind control, and that extraterrestrials saved her life three times, once by using a force field to deflect an elk that jumped in front of her car. Gee, if only there were a vaccination against lunacy.
Life offers us no guarantees…except death. Everything comes down to a risk-benefit analysis. I’ve scrutinized this issue very carefully, listening to all opinions, but obviously relying more on real experts than on contrarians who have forged opinions based on flim-flam or on questionable political or social agendas. I don’t pay much attention to Dr. Blaylock. He’s weird. He denies global warming. He states that the Soviets had a plan to drown the country in illegal drugs to destroy the moral foundation of western society and weaken its ability to resist a Soviet military invasion. These drugs were to be pushed especially to high school students to create a future dysfunctional leadership. And you know what else? According to Blaylock the Soviets developed crack cocaine and managed to spread it in the U.S. to create a drug culture and diminish the religious underpinnings of the nation. He believes that President Obama, who is merely a puppet of his “Elite” backers (whoever these may be) is trying to establish a “New World Order” that is based on eliminating the old and the disabled. Blaylock is an ultraconservative defender of “American values” who appears regularly on extreme right wing radio shows plugging his outrageous agenda. He has the gall (and mental decrepitude) to liken the Obama administration to the Nazis. I don’t think this is the kind of character from whom we should be taking scientific advice. Rather, I will take the path that has been forged by evidence-based science. I will roll up my sleeves for the H1N1 vaccine, as will my wife, children and grand children.

  35. Rachel says:

My husband, myself and our four children all got the shot (ages 7,5,3 and 1). I am thankful to be in a country that has this available and I will take it to save the hassle. Also, this is the second wave but they are predicting a third wave and I’m glad we’ll be protected. My children’s school is a H1N1 outbreak school and considering it is a highly contaigous flu I protected us all!

  36. I got the swine flu instead :). Not eligble for shot yet but everyone I know here on vancouver islAnd already has H1N1 and myself and my daughter have had it now and it’s unlikely we would get it again. My daughter laid on the couch for 5 days with a fever fatigue, aches and pains etc. I had this really bad pain in my lungs as my major symptom so I got Tamiflu. Had the headache, chest pain for about 4 days now we should be in the clear 🙂

  37. TaraF says:

No one in my family has received the shot and no one will be either. Even though 2 of us (myself included) would technically be considered in the high risk group. *Meh* I’ll take my chances with the flu rather than a vaccine I know nothing about and the Government has given the pharmacuetical companies immunity from.

    Btw..that picture is awesome LOL

  38. Sally says:

I think its interesting how MANY people are misinformed. The swine flu is less severe then the regular strain of flu yet so many people are getting the swine flu shot and have 0 intentions of getting the regular flu shot. To me this makes no sense! IF the media announced during regular flu season just how many people had passed from it it would seem liike the plague.
Too many people are allowing the media to instill fear into them. Its something the media has had a hayday with since 9/11.

Of course I dont want my children to fall ill but this shot is just not the right fit. Does everyone reason that the NEXT round of h1n1 shots ARE NOT THE SAME as the ones that were just administered? Don’t let the Government fool you. Those were from Australia. The one thats next in line for Canada by Glaxco HAS NOT EVEN BEEN APPROVED FOR PREGNANT WOMAN. I seriously suggest we all do some researching before letting the media make our minds up.

Their suggesting this other vaccine will be approved by next week. But hasn’t really been tested on humans. No thanks, I’ll pass.

  39. mamatafari says:

    no thanks to the shot.
there are natural remedies if you are worried about..
1-colloital silver is a mineral that you can take each day to combat it.
2-just go to a naturopath or homeopath for a remedy.

this “vaccine” has NEVER Been tested on humans. never. and a vaccine usually takes 16 years of testing to ensure its safety. scary.

  40. mamatafari says:

p.s. people die from things everyday. that’s nature. our bodies and nature are meant to cure us from diseases etc.

  41. mamatafari says:

SCARED-a child actually can go to school without being vaccinated. that’s something that people are scared into doing. in fact, all one has to do is sign a waiver that if something is going around the school, then your child will be out for a short while.

  42. Patty says:

My family will NOT get it for sure..

u need to pick up some oinkment to cure the swine flu. if u have bird flu, u should get some tweetment. stay healthy…

  44. anisa says:

we have far more heavy metal and toxins in the soil we grow our foods in.
i would be interested in seeing valid references to everyone’s argument that this is propoganda/hype/scare tactics. half my extended family is very well educated in sciences (Dr’s, nurses, research scientists) and so many are getting it.

yes it is a choice, and i never get flu shots, but i think this one is devastating enough that myself, my son and daughter are getting or have gotten the vaccine.

  45. Cmoody says:

Our 7 year old & 1 year old both got it on Oct. 31

We took our little guy to Sick Kids (where he stayed for 3 weeks when he was born) for a follow -up at the NICU & the doctor recommend the youngest to get it – the oldest got it at the same time, even though you were suppose to be under 5.

Our youngest has some respiratory problems because he was premature. When he gets a common cold he ends up in the hospital… we have already been told that his lungs would likely not be able to handle anything severe (H1N1, pneumonia, anything like that)

  46. wifeyclk says:

@ John, Totally agree with you. PPL are now SO brainwashed with vaccines it’s scary! but again,. it’s all personal choice, and up to everyone to do their own research on it. My hubby & I did the research and concluded it’s all a hype to scare so these companies can make as much money as they can, and like i said before, these people/staff who work for these companies making the vaccine, THEY DON”T VACCINATE THEIR FAMILIES! what makes them so much different?! oh wait, it’s because they actually KNOW what the effects of these vaccines are!

@anisa Yes, probably half your family is studying in the Dr’s etc, however they ALSO believe in what they are taught, hence they are taking it. do the research, would you put rat poison in your body? then why would you vaccinate yourself? & jus if you’re wondering, We are anti vaccines because it causes more harm than benefits. We are all ‘scared’ into believing that these vaccines benefits more than it harms. BUT DOES IT REALLY!? they claim it’s ‘rare’ circumstances, i’m pretty sure it’s NOT THAT it’s RARE, it is just simply UNREPORTED. Yes, we may have ‘far more heavy metal and toxins in the soil we grow our foods in.” however,we are not injecting all that heavy metal & toxins into our bodies at the same time! If you call up your local poison control and read them the ingredients that are in these vaccines, take a wild guess what they will tell you – IT”S TOXIC and SHOULD NOT BE IN ANY ONE’S BODY! so why are we still believing the hype & scare tactic?

Ps. I meant this post in the most polite way, and sorry if I’ve offended anyone, it was not intended to. 🙂

  47. Sally says:

I’m not anti vaccine, but we won’t get this one. Like I said but

I just can’t get over how severe people think the Swine Flu is but have no idea that the regular flu is far more severe and claims way more lives.

But lets just ignore that and freak out about swine flu.

    Educate yourselves.

  48. Skippy says:

The picture is a tactless attempt at humour.
Bottom line, the shot is a personal decision.

  49. Lilyana's Mommy says:

Not everyone is going to agree if the H1N1 shot is safe or not. If I had been 20wks pregnant at the time we had my daughter vaccinated I would have had it done but now I will just wait and see what my dr says since it seems that I have the H1N1 flu 🙁 We are a little iffy about having the 2nd part of the shot given to our daughter b/c about 4 days after she had the first needle she broke out in what looked like hives however we can’t say for sure if it was caused my the vaccine or not. I think we all agree as parents/caregivers that we would do anything to protect our children and sometimes we have to make decisions that may not seem right to others but to our families it is.

I am trusting that the dr’s know what they are doing and they will not harm our children (including the unborn) therefore when the dr prescribed tamiflu for me to take I agreed because my husband and I had to make a decision and it was should I take it NOT knowing if in the future it will have some effect on our child or do I not take and take a chance that I could get worse and end up in the hospital and possibly lose our child. We had to think of the present and honestly I don’t even want to think about if I would have become worse because last night when I was sitting at the hospital waiting I honestly had no idea what was wrong with me. All I know is that yesterday afternoon it was all I could do to pick up our 10 month old and my whole body was in pain which in my opinion was worse than the pain I had after my c-section.

So just to be fair I can understand both points of view because in the beginning I was the one saying no way to the shot as we didn’t know enough about it but now that I’ve gone through it (and still am) I agree with getting the shot because I wouldn’t want my daughter or husband going through this.

  50. fanofearl says:

My teenage son had H1N1 last week, and he was really down for the count with itwith high fever, respiratory illness pain and nausea. He was out of school for 5 days, and he was ill enough that one of us stayed home with him for several days to be sure that he was OK. His advice – if you can do something to avoid it, do it.

  51. Lilyana's Mommy says:

@ fanofearl – I agree with your son’s advice 🙂 It is a terrible illness and my hubby stayed home today with me to make sure I was ok and to take care of our daughter. I’m hoping tomorrow will be better. Glad your son is doing better!!

  52. JamsWife says:

Got the shot, no side effects.
So muc mis-information out there. Talk to a DOCTOR (not your friends/coworkers etc.) to find out if it is right for you!

  53. kathyo says:

The whole family got the shot. We always got the seasonal one in the past.

  54. John says:

most of the symptoms that people report here about the H1N1 seems to me a normal flu. In fact, the medical industries are smart. All they had to do was combine all kind of symptoms we usually get daily like:

Cough and fever, Fatigue, Muscle aches, Sore throat, Headache, Decreased appetite, Runny nose, Nausea, Vomiting and Diarrhea

into symptoms of H1N1 and now you got people running to the clinics scared and panicking to get vaccinated once they notice these symptoms. Come on people! how can you let them fool us like that!
All they had to do was invent a new word “H1N1” and replace it with the word “normal flu” to make a new profit of vaccinating us with diseases so we can be bound to medicine all our life. Who knows whats inside those vaccines! don’t fool yourself that scientists are sitting there for our benefits!

And now you got two diseases with the same symptoms. Which put people in confusion. Anyone can point the finger at you just how is shown in the picture if you happen to have cough and runny nose. Anyone who studies history and philosophy of politics and sociology can see this as a potential danger: It causes divisions among people. Its not happening now but soon it will

  55. Alex says:

“One of the best ways to stop the spread of the flu (like H1N1) is for sick people to stay home. But Wal-Mart gives employees “demerits” that can lead to termination if they call in sick!

We think the real demerits should go to Wal-Mart for their bad sick days policy, which risks making the public sick and their employees sicker.

Give Wal-Mart a “Demerit Badge” by signing the petition today! We’ll deliver your signatures, along with real demerit badges, to Walmart executives to call them out for their terrible sick days policies”

  56. abfab says:

got mine yesterday. there was no line up.

why get it? for the same reason i always wear my seatbelt. there’s a 99% chance that i’ll arrive home safely, but in case something happens i’ll be glad i had it.

h1n1 is not like the regular flu. yes, 99% of the population will get normal flu-like symptoms, but the regular flu does not kill or cause serious illness to healthy people. i want to not only protect myself, but also those around me. the ‘real’ risk of not getting the vaccine is greater than any ‘possible’ long term risk.

those concerned about the contents of the vaccine need to better educate themselves. don’t believe everything you read on the internet. there are chemicals in the air we breathe, the food we eat, as well as the soap/makeup and cleaning products we use. if you’re concerned about health risks you should be more concerned about what’s in your own home. you’re exposed to more toxins on a daily basis than in a vaccine.

  57. mamatafari says:

umm yes the ‘regular’ flu does kill people
1-vaccines have mercury. yuck. would you willingly ingest mercury? even the slightest drop? if yes well then you have your own propblems

2- yes there are toxins everywhere. which is why in our household we are as natural as possible (and none of that fake walmart-type ‘green’ crap made by companies like clorox).

3-having different opinions does not mean someone is not as well educated by where they have gotten their information. where did yours come from about the vaccine? just the media and the government right? well maybe you should start finding other sources of information to get a BALANCED VIEWPOINT!

  58. vinospizza says:

To all those who “won’t get it but to each their own”:

You don’t get the vaccine, you get sick (or maybe not but can still) carry the virus to someone with health problems who may or may not get sick & die.

So by not vaccinating yourself or your kids, you risk everyone around you (and THEIR kids).

  59. wifeyclk says:

@vinospizza HOw are we risking other people and their kids, when these ‘other ppl & their kids’ already got their vaccine? isn’t it supposed to ‘protect you guys’ since you guys GOT the shot? a bit of a contradition isn’t it? And even if there is some sort of outbreak you guys are ‘protected’..so why do you care if we’re risking ourselves to an outbreak by not getting the vaccine? As i’m also pretty sure it’s not like you are worried about our safety but your own.

  60. wifeyclk says:

@mamatafari THANK YOU! TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  61. TaraF says:

to vinospizza, I am one of those “I won’t get it but to each their own” kinda people. However, if I get sick I stay indoors. If I have to be in public while I am sick, I have a tissue in hand at all times to sneeze and/or cough into when/if needed. If I for some reason don’t have a kleenex, then I will use a sleeve if necessary. I carry hand sanitizer with me everywhere and I am responsible. IF “everyone else” is getting vaccinated and the vaccine REALLY works like the Government would like everyone to beleive it does, then even if I was unvaccinated and sick and in public and sneezing everywhere, they (those that are vaccinated) SHOULD be protected if they themselves receieved the vaccine. So don’t try to shift “irresponsibility” to others. If you want the vaccine, get it and protect yourself but don’t blame those who don’t get it and do get sick if you get sick, whether you are protected or not.

  62. wifeyclk says:

@TaraF thank you! another smart person who understands a simple concept! 😉 props to you!

  63. Lauroo says:

To Tara and Wifeyclk: The vaccine does not confer immunity to 100% of those who receive it (the government and public health offices state it only confers immunity to 90% — and the older you are, the less likely it is to protect you). So 1 in 10 of those who want to protect themselves by getting vaccinated can still get the flu.

That’s why it is so important that LOTS of people get the shot — the more people who get it, the less likely the virus is to spread across a community and infect those who are at most risk.

And just to put things into perspective, a can of tuna has 20x more mercury than the vaccine (and it is METHYL mercury in the tuna, which has much more potential for harm than the ETHYL mercury found the vaccine).

  64. Sally says:

Abfab, your completely misinformed…. the regular flu is WORSE then h1n1

  65. TaraF says:

To: Lauroo, you stated “the older you are the less likely it is to protect you”. I assume by “it” you mean the H1N1 vaccine. Can you please explain how that is considering stats have proven the older you are the less likely you are to even die of H1N1 if caught? It’s the younger people who are dieing from this, not the elderly. Both my Mother and I are considered high risk and “should” get this vaccine but we aren’t. We’ll take our risks with the “boogeyman H1N1” that has killed less this year than the seasonal flu kills in a mere 2 weeks at the height of the flu season. I’m not going to take any chances with a vaccine no one knows anything about and the pharmaceutical company has immunity from should anyone report any complications and/or death from injecting themselves with this vaccine. As for the others who get vaccinated and you feel are at risk for me not vaccinating myself, if those vaccinated are SO concerned about getting H1N1 or that their vaccine may not work, that isn’t my problem. It’s theirs.

  66. TaraF says:

@ abfab, you said “why get it? for the same reason i always wear my seatbelt. there’s a 99% chance that i’ll arrive home safely, but in case something happens i’ll be glad i had it.” Abfab, my Sister In Laws Mother was killed in a car accident a few years back in Algonquin Park. Do you know what killed her? Wearing her seatbelt. Upon impact her seatbelt severed her spleen and she died of internal injuries. The Drs and Police that attended to her on the scene said had she not been wearing her seatbelt she would have survived. Why am I saying this? Because it’s simple: life isn’t gauranteed for anyone, vaccinated or not. You can do everything the way you are told things should be done and it still doesn’t mean it’s right or that it will work. It also means that just because it’s a good choice for you, doesn’t mean it’s a good choice for the next person. Allow people to make their choices, even if you don’t agree with their choices, it doesn’t mean they are wrong. It’s really that simple.

  67. Hi people, every woman’s situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the here and now but never see nor feel those of the future; and so we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and invariably for the worse. HAPPY NEW YEAR

  68. Good post with some useful information! Can’t say I completely agree with all you have suggested here, but there are a good amount of critical recommendations you have emphasized that can be very useful on natural health and related topics. Definitely keep providing more ideas on this topic and associated issues, as there are many out there like me who are attempting to understand the positives and negatives.

  69. Great! Thanks for put up
