This Week’s Shoppers Drug Mart Flyer Sucks

I was looking forward to this Saturday’s 20X Optimum points event at Shoppers Drug Mart. I find that Shoppers’ Optimum points are the most valuable of all reward programs out there. Optimum points can be very effectively redeemed as opposed to other points/miles.

Shoppers Drug Mart Starts going downhill

Shoppers Drug Mart had several 20X events and the flyers during these special days were always decent. This time however, Shoppers Drug Mart – knowing that we have to spend $50+ to get the 20X points – decided to treat us like fools. The flyer barely has a single good deal and the weekend deals were shifted one day to avoid overlapping with the 20X event!

Shoppers Drug Mart, please don’t ruin your wonderful programs and rewards. You can’t fool consumers.

Boo, I couldn’t agree more!! There is NOTHING worth buying on ‘sale’ (I am using that word in the loosest sense!), but the 12-packs of pop at 2.77 aren’t bad. Everything else blows!
I am only glad that I had planned on stocking up with formula to get the points tomorrow and nothing else. 😉

I was ready and waiting for the Saturday event as well. My plan was to buy two iPod Nanos and an iPod Shuffle. Unfortunately, it turns out that Shoppers has priced the Nano at $249, while it’s available anywhere else in Canada, including the Apple Store, at $169. Even with 20x points, it wouldn’t make sense to buy them there.

What I find even more appalling is the Seniors’ Days flyers, which encourage seniors to get ‘that iPod they’ve been wanting’ at 20% off. Even at that rate, people would still be paying roughly 20% over the regular price anywhere else. Taking advantage of seniors – shame on you, Shoppers Drugmart.

Well I have to say Shoppers has NEVER “shifted” a sale in the past 10 years. I am a loyal shopper there and their flyer always starts on a Saturday and they tend to have Sunday and Monday specials often. They use to be only Sunday, however they are now making it two days a week. As with all stores, they have cheaper and more expensive things then the others do. Pop is very cheap there, however electronics tend to be only average. I find it also depends on what store you go to. I find that the newest stores are the better ones and I can always find what im looking for and its always nice to see the “price freeze” which is not advertised in flyers. I have stocked up on lots of things like shampoo, batteries etc from those.
