Tim Hortons No Longer Canada’s Favourite Coffee Shop

I’m sorry to bring this news to Tim Hortons fans but it looks like we have a new favourite coffee shop: McDonald’s McCafé! This is according to Maclean’s Coffee Ranker. The tool lets users rank the 15 largest national and regional chains that sell coffee in the country.

Here are the results as of October 20 2017:

    Can’t beat those mcdeals..
I am glad second cup beat stealbucks, they are definitely easier on the wallet ! and their donuts are a good size

This really doesn’t surprise me, Tim’s keeps upping their prices and McD’s coffee is delicious plus they offer the buy 7 get 1 free and many coffee offers throughout the year. Tim’s has their roll up the rim contest but always raises their prices soon after to pay for it.

I’ve always hated Tim’s, since the day I moved to Canada. They have terrible coffee with rude staff.
Second Cup is definitely my favourite. They serve coffee as good as the ones from Italy. Always clean, always polite. But McCafe sure has the advantage of price and speed.

Tim’s needs to ditch their terrible lids and get some better ones that don’t drip and spill all the time. Every other coffee shop has better lids.
They also need some kind of loyalty program like McDonald’s Buy 7 Get 1 Free or Starbucks Gold.

I’ve never liked Tim Horton’s coffee; it’s bitter and 10 to 1 it won’t be what you ordered. MacDonald’s coffee is good, their “specialty” coffees leave a lot to be desired. I’ve rarely gone to Starbucks…there are two Second Cups closer to me than the nearest Starbucks. I’ve found that Second Cup can be hit or miss and they recently stopped stocking the syrup for my once favourite drink, Honey Vanilla Tea Latte, and now just use honey and vanilla…which tastes no different that what I could make myself at home. Second Cup’s Pumpkin Spiced White Hot Chocolate is amazing and I quite like the loyalty program.

Everything Tim Hortons makes from Donuts to Coffee taste terrible; the quality is poor, the service is well, next to zero.

I like Second Cup, that is my only place

    Tims has the worst coffee.

I think the smartest marketing move McDonald’s made was to give away their coffee to entice people to try it. For years it was absolutely horrible. Now, for about the same price as a coffee at Tim’s, you can get a coffee and muffin at McD’s. The quality of both the coffee and the pastries is as good as anywhere. I always use my loyalty card for a nice cappuccino as a bonus.

Tims where to start……the blueberry bagels that went from blue to white over time (near the end I think if they touched a blueberry to a plain bagel it was rebranded as a blueberry). The new larger specialty cookies that started out huge and cost more soon shrunk to the tiny things they are now (price didn’t shrink). The Specialty bagel that were loaded and flavorful in the beginning are now no different than the original bagels and are getting worse. Hard to get a buttered bagel that has anymore than a smidge of butter…..you might get lucky if you plead for more…but don’t count on it. And if you want it toasted….I think they got rid of their toasters and are now using a heat lamp to toast their bagels must be the electricity costs. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Cant speak on what they are like at the moment because the lost me a year ago to McDonalds. They did it to themselves……declining quality, service and customer manipulation is not a sustainable business model……maybe they can hire the SEARS execs to bring them back from the brink.

I ditched my Tim’s card ages ago and they’ve become a last resort: their bagels seem to have considerably shrink in size over the past few months despite increased prices; the decision to make the cinnamon-raisin “optional” for stores is plain annoying since it’s the only low-fat and low-sodium bagel they produce; I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve complained to them about their moronic lid design; beyond the annoyance of trying to get something properly & consistently toasted (their toasters seem to have two settings: “hair dryer” & “flamethrower”) they also manage to mess up the order on a regular basis; many of their staff seem capable of conducting an entire transaction without ever making eye contact while asking if I want to make my coffee & donut a “combo” by adding a hash-brown (which, by the way, are terrible). Thankfully, there’s a McD’s kittycorner from my local Tim’s.
