Tampon Tuesdays?! When I saw this term as I was browsing my facebook feeds I thought what in the world?! Naturally I had to click the link and I discovered a fantastic program in downtown Toronto.

Tuesday, September 27th from 5:00 – 7:30pm visit the Jack Astors on John St to participate in this event. You must bring a box of tampons to donate to the Daily Bread Foodbank and help out the women in need. Let’s face it Smart Canuckers, you know how to get those tampon boxes almost free!

Many locations also supply free appetizers… but mostly this is an event meant to grow your network and help out a local charity. So instead of talking to your girlfriends online and wondering what to do Tuesday evening, grab yourself a box of tampons and head downtown!

Click here to view the website and check out the event calendar for events in your local city.

What an awesomer idea! I wish I lived in the area. I hope they get a great response from this.

Can anyone figure out why tax are paid on a box of tampons but lottery winnings are tax-exempt? Unjust IMHO.

    Eww

Why not donate Diva Cups so the women don’t have to worry about buying pads or tampons ever again…? How wasteful.

  5. really? says:

Yes so how much are diva cups again? Do you have diva cup coupons I can use to get them for free?

Disadvantaged doesn’t have to need homeless, but if i were homeless I’d prefer something disposable not washing out a bloody cup in a shelter sink.

How many diva cups are you planning on donating by the way?

  6. yeah....really?? says:

hey better yet, why not buy them cloth pads! cause you know, regular pads are wasteful and everyone obviously has access to washing machines!

  7. Jen says:

What a wonderful idea! I wonder if they would also accept pads (for those woman who can’t use tampons or do not want to risk TSS). Too bad I’m not in the area or I would totally do this.

As for the Diva Cup thing… not every woman can use one, and not every woman would want to. 🙂

I am so happy to see this! I worked at a food bank for years, and basic toiletries were always in low supply but desperately needed. When donating, please consider that women need ‘feminine supplies’ and men need razors — not all food bank clients are unemployed and are expected to be clean shaven! Shampoo, soap and toothbrushes/paste were always in need as well.

Hey, if you want to donate a couple of diva cups, you could do that. Most people donate the tampons and pads for the cost and convenience it provides to the clients, but that doesn’t mean the NOBODY would use them.

Tax on this stuff is the only thing that makes me go “ew”.

  9. sara says:

I forgot deodorant. Also in high need!

  10. Michi says:

The food bank clients “expect” to be clean shaven!? Lol, sounds a bit demanding for people who don’t pay taxes and get stuff for free without having to work

  11. sara says:

They don’t expect to be clean shaven, their employers expect them to be clean shaven.

Like I said, they are not all unemployed.

  12. tut says:

Sounds like a good cause, but they should except pads as well as not all women wear tampons all the time. As for the Diva cup?? Never have seen one and I never intend to. Diapers, like feminine products should be disposable as it is disgusting to wash out these and if it were a communal bathroom evn grosser. Just sayin

I think this actually started in London – I attended one of their events in the summer at Jack Astors and it was great. If you live in London search for it online, I am sure there is another one coming up.
