Tomorrow Value Village is holding a 30% off sale for its Super Savers Club Card members off a purchase $30+. Excludes new merchandise (red tags). My advice is if you’re not a member and want to take advantage of the sale sign up today. At their last secret sale I signed up the week before but forgot my card and they refused to let my mom get a card the day of. Personally I prefer Goodwill when comes to thrift stores around here. The stuff is nicer and priced better.

It’s 30% off a purchase of $30 or more. Bummer.

  2. Kala says:

I had the same problem, wouldn’t let me get a card the day of . . . kind of annoying.

  3. Stephania says:

At my store, I think it’s just 25% off the top of your purchase. No minimum amount is necessary! So sale may differ from store to store.

I know first hand that they overprice their donations. If an item gets donated with a price tag on, they sell it for 50% of that price. And their ” donations to local charity” is a joke, they donate according to weight of the items, and trust me, it’s peanuts compared to their profit they make from it. At the prices they charge I can go to a clearance sale, or most of the time reg stores and get a brand NEW item for the same price.

    I completely agree with R.Anna
Value Village is a rip off. I’ve actually seen them charge MORE than what was on the original price tag for the item.
There was a doll they were asking $500 for. On ebay that same doll was BIN $30… how much of that $500 do you think the charity ever saw?

Here is the link for the Diabetes foundation – http://www.diabetes.ca/get-involved/supporting-us/clothesline/faq/

How does the Canadian Diabetes Association receive funding from Value Village?
The Canadian Diabetes Association is responsible for soliciting, picking-up and delivering goods to Value Village stores. The Association is paid for the volume of goods delivered. Value Village operates the retail store.

  7. R.Anna says:

Debbie, It is correct that they get paid for the volume of goods delivered, but trust me when I say they make a HUGE profit compared to what they pay out to charity.

  8. Alyssa says:

This was on CBC radio the other morning, but more about the bins that people donate clothes to. I’m with R.Anna on this one too. It’s ridiculous how little the charity actually gets.

I’m a huge thrifter, and I personally find Value Village atrocious when it comes to the price and quality of their goods. The markup is horrendous, and the VVs I’ve been to aren’t as clean as the smaller or true charity run thrift stores. I think my main problem is that a lot of their shirts/jackets are priced between $7 and $12. A good clothes store has new items that frequently go on sale for that little.

    Well good….stop shopping there then : )

I go to Value Village when I donate items
I had tried to donate to the Kidney clothing program and they never picked up the bags(well marked kidney on both bags) that I left outside my house. The following day I called the office and the person told me they don’t pick up in my area. That was a lie my neighbors got their bags picked up.
