While Air Canada is having a competition where you have the chance to win a 20% discount on a base fare flight, West Jet Airlines is giving you a promo code that guarantees you a 20% discount if you book before December 30th, 2014 and also pick within their specified dates; which if you consider that its an airline offer, are pretty flexible.

In order to qualify for this 20% discount on a West Jet Airlines flight, you must use the promo code, WJP72, and then also input the coupon code, NXRXJGF. Your travel dates must also be within January 7th, 2015 to June 15th, 2015, with the only blackout dates being from April 1st to 7th, 2015 and from May 14th to 19th, 2015.

Since the dates of the West Jet offer falls over the spring break period when most people are seeking sunshine and some heat on their bodies, I thought it best to test out this discount by searching out a popular tropical destination during peak travel season. That is, a trip from Toronto (YHZ) to Cancun, Mexico during February. By using the 20% discount, I was able to find a round-trip ticket for $477.12, with both flights being direct.

When I compared this flight on the Google Flight Tracker, the best offer they could find for the same dates, February 3rd-10th, 2015, was $568 round-trip.

While in this particular instance I was able to save $90.88, the savings for other flights may vary as the prices are contingent upon where and when you are travelling to and where you are flying from. With Toronto, or other larger airports, the ticket fare is generally cheaper than smaller airports since they have more flights offered.

So if it’s possible for you to travel to a larger airport that offers more international flights, then it may be in your best interest to drive an hour or two to fly out of the larger airport versus flying from a smaller venue.
