If you haven’t read this book or seen the movie, I strongly suggest you do! Read the book first if you can get your hands on it. Apparently it’s difficult to find. I was fortunate enough to find it at a used book store.
It’s the remarkable journey of a woman who entered every contest she possibly could in order to support her family (10 kids!). It was written by her daughter. Now, this was waaaay back before computers. The contests weren’t just a random draw, either, she had to write jingles and such. You can read the actual contest entries in the book.
If you ever feel you’ve hit a contest slump or an economic hardship, this book (or movie) is sure to pick you up. The movie shows all 10 “kids” at the end.
This is a true, inspirational tale!
I’ve watched this movie and it’s amazing how great this lady was 🙂
Sounds like an interesting book! I’ll check it out!
just put it on hold at the libary thanks for posting
Oh my goodness this is my favorite book and movie ever!
A great read and watch!
I absolutely loved the movie, especially the ending. Come to think of it,I just might suggest it to my book club.
I watched this movie last year– it was excellent and such an inspiring example of someone who perseveres through hardship.
There’s a very old movie about the same thing – is this a remake and reissue of same story? Sounds a good deal like a movie from 1950’s or around there? Hm, maybe I go Swagsearch and see if I can find out myself… and maybe win a swagbuck or two while I try find out. I love old movies and saw this one several times. Not good remembering who was in it though. Will V8 my head when I see names – like how could I forget? LOL, for me that’s easy – baaaaaaad with names and titles sometimes but I know I saw same tale in a golden oldie. Curious if same story?
WOW What a shocker to see that other people like this movie 🙂 This is a must see for any-one who likes to get freebies lol because she was a freebie Queen, not only that but this movie is a girl n guy flick! now I need to read the book.
I like how she used all the common “tricks” many of us employ today such as entering for everyone in your family. With 10 kids, that was really smart! It’s great how she got the kids involved, too.
@Mbgurl – You’re saying there was a movie that was actually made in the ’50s about the same thing? This one is based in that era. I hope you find it because now I’m curious! Of course, it helps to rake in the Swagbucks searching. 😉
I also really enjoyed this movie!! It is nice to see others have too 🙂
I am intrigued! I have requested the book and the movie from the library! Can’t wait.
