    What is an “SPC Card”?

  2. maybe says:

It’s a Student Price Card. You can purchase them as some retailers and online. You get discounts at different stores (like 10% off at Zellers). You don’t have to be a student to get or use one.

  3. JSAM's Mom says:

I tried to get an SPC card twice and both times was told I would need student ID to use it, so I never bothered. Has anyone else been “carded” when using an SPC card?

  4. maybe says:

I’ve never been asked for student ID when I use my SPC card.

  5. KA says:

the spc card discount does not apply to electronics

  6. Lynn says:

Awesome! Thank you soooo much for posting this!

The last Zellers Midnight Madness was the first one I went to and I came home understanding why they call it Midnight Madness. It was like Boxing Day and Christmas Eve combined!

Shelves were ransacked and the lineups at the cashiers were long. Some areas where pallets of sale stuff had been were just debris fields and there were no shopping baskets around to use so I managed to find a discarded box to carry all my loot to the cashier. What fun!

The clearance tables by the Pharmacy were incredible with stuff marked down to extremely low prices on a yellow tag that were then marked down another 50% at the cashier. For example, the Gillette Deep Cleaning Shampoo (650 ml.) I got for $3 (regular price on a 362 ml. bottle is about $6 or more) and Old Spice Bodywash and deodorant for less than a dollar… and that was without coupons! This time I will go with coupons and my own shopping bags and bells on! 🙂

  8. Sally says:

The VIP SPC card states right on it “no id required” The regular SPC yes most places DO ID.

  9. 23edge says:

and while I’m there will I also be able to buy a t-shirt with that lone wolf and full moon motif?

  10. Dinglehopper says:

Ugh, I’m so mad. Today I just picked up a Queen duvet (from that Warehouse website that sponsored one of the contests) for $50.

  11. mcminsen says:

Actually… (at least in my local flyer) it’s “MOONLIGHT Madness Sale”.
    😮

  12. Rosa says:

The last moonlight madness was crazy! I bought a few clothing items and baby deals and I waited in line for 2 hrs! I think I will pass on this one!

  13. Catherine says:

Actually Maybe some stores won’t accept the SPC without a student ID. I used to work at a Zellers store and we were not allowed to accept them without student ID. If a parent had one the child had to be with them with their student ID and the items purchased with the discount had to be for that child only. If they had 2 children the other child would have to have their own SPC and student ID. No ID, no discount. Those instructions used to come in the package from SPC on point of sale procedures. I guess some stores followed it and some didn’t. It’s certainly possible they’ve changed the policy since I left a year ago. I’d still check before getting to the checkout with all the items though.

As much as I love a good sale, im working at zellers on the 27th 🙁 lol please go easy on us lowly cashiers!

  15. jennyskylar says:

    Looking forward to it!!

  16. Gilby's Gin says:

This will be my first experience at a Midnight Madness and I really want a Nintendo DS for my grandaughter (offered at 9pm). There ad says 15 per store. What is my best strategy to get one? Do I go early and stand at the cabinet where they are locked and if so, what time would you recommend? Maybe you would know Angie?? Thanks!

  17. Sandra says:

    Hi,

is the midnight madness sale is everywhere in Canada?

  18. Lisa says:

No, depending on the region it will be a moonlight madness..here in Hamilton due to bylaws regulations( only allowed a certain # of midnight sales) our stores are running fri 5pm-9pm and Sat 8am -9pm

  19. Angie says:

Gilby’s Gin : Just a heads up, Midnight Madness is CRAZY, be prepared to wait in line for over an hour. Also the hourly specials are quite intense. At the store i work at the hourly specials are usually out in a main isle and covered by a sheet and they uncover them as it reaches the specific hour. So you’ll just have to find out where the DS’s are going to be and stand and wait there, im sure you will be joined by many more people.

Also about the SPC cards, we are required to check your student card in order to use your SPC card. So if you are planning on using one please either bring your child with you or bring your student card, everything will go alot faster 😛

  20. JSAM's Mom says:

Does anyone know where I can get a VIP SPC card, since I’m not a student? Thanks!

  21. Deesha says:

The VIP SPC Card is a limited edition promotional card. As far as I know, they are not for sale and cannot be renewed.
But you can apply for a BMO SPC Mastercard—10-15% SPC discount at hundreds of retailers—To learn more about the BMO SPC MasterCard visit bmo.com/spcmastercard

  22. Kara says:

I will never shop at a Zellers again in my life. Went to the moonlight sale for the DS and by 7:30 they were sold out. Can anyone tell me how this was fair. A salae that was to start at 9pm was sold out by 7:30 we never had a fighting chance for one. Not only that but my local store only had 20 which I understand but they gave away 5 rain checks but would not give one to us. So yes I was there an hour before the sale was to start and did make a big fuss in the store and was just treated like I was not worth there time to talk too. Coming from a smaller town and a big family I guess we will have to take our bussiness to Wal-Mart. So much for shopping with a Canadian company. I guess I should have headed to the States for the black Friday sale.

  23. Hilda says:

I have the same complaint about the items being gone before the time they were listed on sale. I got there at 8:20 pm and didn’t know they were giving out slips of paper with numbers on them for the Nintendo DS and at 8:30 pm they made an announcement that all the Nintendo DS were gone. How can you sell something before the time? They said that people were standing there for so long that they wanted to clear the aisles. What a joke

  24. JSAM's Mom says:

Thanks, Deesha! You’re awesome…I will definitely check out the mastercard link. 😉

  25. Doodlebug says:

i am glad then that i didn’t go to my zellers store for the DS. I called the walmart near my home when the flyer came out and asked if they would honor the timed sale witht he flyer at 9pm, and was told yes!!
So that is where i got my DS on Friday night at 9pm.

  26. Hilda says:

Doodlebug is so smart!! I didn’t even think of that

  27. Ashley says:

last time i went to a sale at zellers they only had 5 of each item, how the hell is that a sale. “sale for only the first 5 costumers” screw that.

  28. Kent says:

Zellers Is a hole, and it is no longer a Canadian owned and you are right Ashley five items is not a sale and the fact that they give them away before the hour that is designated for them is really sad, every one after that should get rain checks

  29. Catherine L says:

Zellers is horrible for having sales and then only having a handful of the item. But I don’t know why you’d complain about the rainchecks. If they know they can only get 5 more in why would they give out 6 rainchecks and have you ticked when they can’t get you, the sixth person, one of the items? A lot of stores don’t give out rainchecks on great deals. Walmart and Dominion in my area never give out rainchecks on anything that’s a really good deal. I have actually grown to hate Zellers, but they’re no different than so many other retailers.
